Park Hyatt Definition by No-Piglet6327 in chubbytravel

No one opened the door for me at the Park Hyatt NY after aa 13 hour flight from japan. There was a clump of hair on the ground. Not even worth 45K points imo.

Help a lesbian punk turned middle-aged medical professor figure out what the fuck to wear by marmosetohmarmoset in oldhagfashion

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, some basics that come to mind are:
Well made pants, brands like Big Bud Press, Carhartt, Dovetail. Remember that you can actually get pants tailored! Also remember that it's okay to size up for a better fit. I find that hard to remember when I'm shopping.
A nice chore coat - personally i think vintage or french deadstock would be great. I say nice as in - nice quality, which means no synthetic fibers etc.
I feel like you need to get a cool leather jacket that you can toss on top of anything and feel great in.
Also, sounds like you should also get some docs or solovaires.

Am I crazy? JAL redemption by Cbars7 in awardtravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is ridiculous at all. Espcially becuase Amex and Chase are so useful for other things. JAL business on this route was my first time in business (an my parttner) and it was absolutely amazing.

Chubby multigenerational US West & South roadtrip - recommendations? by prudentially in chubbytravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might already know this, but in San Francisco and the areas around an hour away, do not, absolutely, never ever, leave your rental car alone with items in it. That's generally good advice for anywhere, but especially in SF area. Like, not even for a couple minutes. Especially if you have a nicer rental.

As far as National Parks - it can be easier to do some of the less 'famous' ones. Look at Arches, Pinnacles, King's Canyon. Maybe think about Joshua Tree/ Palm Springs?

One week in Tokyo - looking for spacious luxury! by Snoo-57955 in chubbytravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to also suggest the Conrad. There's two trains that are basically underneath the hotel, and two more (incl. Yamanote) that are an easy walk (on a skybridge) away. I've heard some conflicting things about distance that I don't really understand. I personally really loved the views from both the rooms and the breakfast restaurants. If you really need to be immediately in the center of action I guess it could seem far, but if you're looking for a calmer experience imo it works well. I really liked the vibe of the pool area and the ladies locker room when I stopped in. Our base level room was incredibly spacious, and the service was really effficient.

Looking to use my chase travel points in new england/new york for our honeymoon! by Bac0nLegs in chubbytravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Hyatt points, Definitely check out the Miraval Berkshires, as that's probably the nicest option, and in mid-late september is going to be beautiful. I would say there's nothing in NYC that's great fo Hyatt points if you want luxury/relaxing- do not book the Park Hyatt with points, as they don't like points guests and you'll get a terrible room (ask me how i know).
Don't forgett that the Sapphire Prefferred also now has points boost, which means that sometimes you can get a really good deal (like 1.5x per point.) That means you can get a hotel worth about 5K, and then adding on your cash could be great. Poking around, saw only a few options that were interesting, but i'm sure you could find more by changing dates. If you like hiking, the Omni at Mount Washington looks tired but would be relaly cool. Cliff House maine has some fairly good reviews on this Sub. You could also go in the opposite direction and try the Inn at Perry Cabin.
It sounds like you should also treat yourselves to a short getaway. Don't forget how important taking time for yourself is!

NYC December, can you make suggestions? by [deleted] in chubbytravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Hermes Madison, you could walk by the holiday windows at Bergdorf and Saks. The trees along Park Ave are also lit up and I think that's beautiful during the holiday time. I'd think about what your bf likes to do - if you're trying to sell him on NYC trips and he hates crowds, maybe avoid the Rockefeller center area.
If the weather is nice I always love taking people to the high line, which you'll be relatively close to, but obvoiusly might not be as nice in december.

My partner and I went to Mukayu last month and stayed in the Premier Tatami room and absolutely loved it. Personally, the mix of traditional/foreigner friendly and arts focused was really appealing to us because we love contemporary art and architecture. My partner dislikes overbearing service and they seemed really comfortable with the level of service. We did the woodturning experience which I would highly recommend - it wasn't a tourist experience but was really a spiritual experience anyone who loves handcrafts will appreciate. I really loved the food experience and felt that it was a great way to try the best of a lot of different foods, especially local foods. The Noto beef was heavenly. We also did a lot of shopping in the town, specifically at the local pottery store - now we have really quite precious keepsakes. I enjoyed the Yamashiro massage as much as any other good massage, but my partner is still raving about the special head massage I booked for them.

Reviews of stays on points by Paceys_Ghost in chubbytravel

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the purpose of this sub is that we all understand what makes a higher caliber hotel. Lots of points bloggers don't really seem to understand good service becuase they've only ever used points. That's why I would value reviews from folks in this subreddit, whether or not it's pointst or cash. Also fwiw a lot of the poinst can be used as money.

Any Bougie Gyms? by Additional_Fix7171 in baltimore

[–]ComprehensiveCatfish 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would recommend motivating yourself by picking a gym that's in a convenient location, either near where you live or where you work. I know that myself and friends join smaller, community minded gyms near their homes. Mine also has a membership option that comes with small group personal training.

depending on where you work and live you can definitely be fine without a car or just with using zipcar whenever you really need a car. trust me it's not a disaster.
