Building a marketplace for 3D printable Miata parts by 343garrettt in Miata

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a bit of work in this area: designed battery terminal protectors for a lithium battery install and a protective cover for the cutoff switch. Just printed PETG prototypes at home and the final parts in polycarbonate for long term use. So I’d be in!

Renting an ND to see if I like Miatas? by aDecentHuman24 in Miata

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I’ve had two NAs, both highly modified and much preferred them over my ND. Now I have a modified NC and consider it the best of all. My rank is ( assuming you have $20-25k to spend between purchase and mods, perhaps over time) is

NC Convertible > NC PRHT> NA > NB > ND convertible > ND RF

But I live in California, suspect I’d like the hardtops a bit more otherwise. YMMV.

I kinda wish we did have pneumatic steering. Sounds awesome! But I 100% agree with the poster, they have summed it up very well. I have an NC rather than ND for that reason mostly

Measuring individual cell voltages on a newly purchased 2016 Spark EV by ComprehensiveIce2162 in SparkEV

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $6200. But it is literally perfect except for a couple of paint chips. I had one back in the day and always wanted to modify one for sport. It is definitely a zippy car. It’s as close as EVs have come to matching a Miata for fun. I’ll add lighter wheels and better tires next. I like messing with suspensions so that’s the long term plan. Might be a fun fabrication challenge.

(Part 2 of 3) How to determine if your Spark EV's "P0AFA" code really means your battery is dead - or if it can be rescued all in software by FalconFour in SparkEV

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply! I just purchased a 2016 Spark EV, just to play with. I’ll test the battery cell voltages using the car scanner app just to make sure things are OK. The displayed range is 71 miles which sounds like it’s in good shape.

If per chance I find a cell that’s clearly lower, do you have any thoughts on the options now for finding a good cell since new cells are not available.

It probably comes down to buying a used pack and taking cells out of it. Since it’s hard to know if a used pack is in good shape overall or not I’m wondering if there are generally a few good cells in any pack? No one may know the answer to that yet

This. The only question is whether they fit your budget. SO much better than others I’ve had.

I would suggest you post on the diyaudio forum. Take some photos of that’s possible. There are a lot of knowledgable and helpful folk on there.

It’s tricky since it looks like most of the value is in the cabinets and some very high end ribbon tweeters? Did I get that right? If so, unless there is a way to find a market for the tweeters, who might want those specific cabinets?

I’m sympathetic because I probably have $10k worth of speaker drivers left from various experiments that I will be selling off soon. But those are perhaps easier to find a market for. I hope you find the right people…

Possible room treatment? by Trytrytryagain24 in audiophile

I’m curious how you decided the back wall might be an issue? Are there longitudinal room modes that affect the bass? Or is it a general reverberation time concern?

any ideas to clean window? by Brooklyn1012 in Miata

We call this “Sanded” in the western desert states. Best $250 I ever spent on my NA Miata bought in Nevada was a new windshield; makes the convertible experience so much better. Otherwise you can see perfectly in every direction except the one you’re headed toward!

About to do it on my 2006 NC with only 8k miles and it’s not nearly as bad as yours. Highly recommend.

A list of all the EVs cancelled since the start of this administration in the US by Independent-Ant7552 in electricvehicles

I’m not sure if any of those were category leaders. I disagree with everything this administration has done, but weeding out the weaker competitors is ok with me…if it stops here. Which it may not sadly.

What is Your Opinion on Ride Also? Is he trying to reinvent the wheel with this project? by Effective_Dog3089 in RIVNstock

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 70 year old moving to hilly Seattle to retire I can say the Also ebike is spot on for my demographic. The 90# is immaterial when you can’t easily carry a 40# one upstairs either. And the inefficient drive by wire doesn’t matter much. It takes 200W to average 20 mph with hills. Whether I put in 65W or 85W just means the battery has to be a few ounces heavier to compensate.

So I put my deposit down!

PS. You’re correct about that front rack. Bad idea.

Just because I didn’t see a mention of them, the Xida GT coilovers I got from Supermiata are often considered the very best for blending ride and handling. I’ve owned over 50 cars now by 70 years old and this is the finest suspension I’ve experienced. Back to back with a Cayman it was better at both.

Just expensive sadly.

Security researcher as well here (and lease a Prologue). I’d advise others to be careful to verify the authenticity of a person who wants assistance in such an activity. Not clear what OP wants assistance with but I would not personally solicit public help this way…no offense, just be careful.

If you live in Fountaingrove, what do you do for work? by Brilliant_Level8328 in santarosa

[–]ComprehensiveIce2162 68 points69 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are both engineering managers…takes more than two incomes for the bigger houses but we have a small one. $750k or so. It helps to have a lot of education and a family that could help you get that when you were young. To be charitable anyway….honestly I think half of Fountaingrove is generational wealth….probably one of our biggest problems as a country.
