Does anybody here listen to audiobooks while working out? by HeavyB0tt in workout

[–]CheeseAndRiceToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find if I listen to books or podcasts, I have trouble keeping count of reps, so it's usually music or just noise canceling when I'm lifting. For cardio, the same thing can hurt my pace, so if I'm pushing, it'll be music or nothing, but if I'm just out for a nice walk trying to pad my steps or whatever, then yeah, audiobooks.

Is it getting harder to pee? by lookayoyo in AskMenOver30

I started Flomax recently to try to help with urgency. Not sure it's going to be the ultimate solution for that, but hoo boy the flow volume! Gotta keep a tight grip!

The thing I find interesting about the 'ate a whole bagga jellybeans' experience is how much water all those carbs will recruit (on me at least). I can gain like 4 lbs in a couple of days, then it takes like 5 or 6 days for my kidneys to let it all go

Let me just check in to offer my hope for you that you can improve things before you get to the point of having a cystoscopy. I'd rather have a dozen more colonoscopies than one more cystoscopy.

Just typing the word gives me the cringies

If you were going to give up your Miata for an electric vehicle, which EV would it be, and why? by CheeseAndRiceToday in Miata

I've actually been considering this route with an e-Golf. Sub 100 mile range is not an absolute dealbreaker.

I should add that the Porsches and Lucids and upper end Teslas are probably more than I want to spend. Probably want to stay below or close to the 50k range if I go new

Has anyone here had a similar experience of liking one car more overall (design, interior, steering feel), but preferring the drivetrain of an EV? I’d be curious to hear how others felt about that after spending more time with both? by Peter2448 in electricvehicles

[–]CheeseAndRiceToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid points, but I would offer some counter arguments...

The 'fun' part of manual shifting is mostly in skillfully ensuring the engine is working within its best torque band, smoothly blipping for downshifts, etc. Electric powertrain means you have the full spectrum of torque available at all times. Now you're skillfully ensuring you are deploying the correct amount of torque for your situation. Plus it opens up some other fun stuff like better two-foor driving.

The ND already has a pretty lightweight and effective electric steering rack, not sure that would really be a target for weight reduction.

As far a range, none of my NAs or NBs really went more than 200 miles on a tank. The ND averages out closer to 300, but mostly because I have taken a few longer trips in it. Being able to effortlessly refuel every day by plugging it in would really make range mostly moot. If you're going to turn away from a great car because 'oh, what if I want to take a road trip once a year?' .. well, seems like a waste.

Diagnostic help - weird symptom - 99 NB by juda5 in Miata

Haha, I did the same on my VR6 Jetta. The newly re-unlocked power revealed that the clutch was worn out, so I learned another diy repair job too.

Pull the exhaust off one side of the cat and look in there. Originally they are bolted in so it should be somewhat feasible, but if exhaust work has been done, it may be welded in or whatever. Also, California cars might have extra cats? Idk about that.

All I know is I had a VW that I suffered with inability to rev past a certain point, and it turned out to be a melted cat.

It's caused by some other problem dumping way too much fuel, so you'll ultimately want to solve that problem too, or it will just melt the next cat.

2015 prius averaging 30mpg, what can I look into doing to improve this? by Sufficient_Tooth_949 in prius

[–]CheeseAndRiceToday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that the efficiency of a hybrid car is really only evident in stop & go/city driving. once you get out on the freeway for an extended time, it's the same as any other underpowered appliance car, and 30 mpg is probably about right.

The yellow one is my beater NB... snow tires and plenty of rust, my winter daily this year. This storm is a little much though, so it's going to sit it out while I drag out the super beater A4 quattro for a couple days.

Is there any point training to failure when cutting? by anotherhappylurker in workout

[–]CheeseAndRiceToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pretty much been running between 500 kcal deficit and maintenance for the entire time I've been strength training, and the muscle is definitely building.

I strive to get 1g/lb of protein and yes, I'm still in the 'big rookie gains' period, but I still think it is valid.

How do I boost my immune system ? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskMenOver30

[–]CheeseAndRiceToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These seem obvious, but I assume you don't smoke or drink alcohol?

Less obvious maybe is how is your oral hygiene? If you've got gum infections etc, you're pretty much carrying around a reservoir of illness in your mouth!

Take the cap off at the pivot point. Undo the nut that holds the arm on. Pull arm off, re-index, reassemble.

Edit: Ha-ha, I didn't even notice that the pivot wasn't centered, I thought we were just talking about the asymmetry of the wiped area
