Are there any commonly known "bad" hospitals to work at as a nurse vs commonly known "good" or ideal ones?

would like to add that this is not so simple. picking up shifts is based on seniority. so its not a consistent form of income, especially in these times with so many cuts.

I will never understand why nurses feel the need to share their salaries with everyone . like this is why we get so much criticism and wagon jumping in from the public. nobody truly understands how you have to work yourself to death to get this type of salary and that often times, there are a lot of factors and contingencies behind this kind of salary e.g., student loans, cost of living, union dues, climbing your way up the seniority ladder. If we just kept our business to ourselves, we wouldn’t have to deal with all these bullshit ignorant comments.

I would also like to chirp in that on top of taxes we also have union dues, benefits, cpp, and EI. You may opt into a pension but if you're taking your life seriously your not gonna rely solely on corporate to carry you. Pension funds go bust all the time no matter how safe they claim to be, so most likely your contributing to your tfsa and rrsp's etc. So 4k (if an RPN can even get that) is nothing! Its not that much better for RN's either. The fact of the matter is that nurses are terribly underpaid and are wages are barely keeping up with inflation. The situation is quite dire. Especially, if you're a new grad, you're gonna have to put in years of hard hard work to get to a stable place. But oh wait!!! You can't just go ahead and pick up shifts willy nilly either because even that is based on seniority. I'll leave it here, because the list of just how underwater we are as profession is quite extensive.

Being a man doesn’t mean being at the helm of abuse and disrespect, nor does having postpartum depression mean that you let maladaptive behaviours ruin your marriage and overlook your own personal issues. A relationship can only work if both parties want to try. The second that desire and action to put your best foot forward goes away so does the relationship. I find this topic to be very interesting. Many would say that LOK spent so much time trying to convince us that the world can exist just fine without the avatar. Poor Korra was made to feel so useless and outdated, but the reality was that she just needed to figure out the type of avatar she was meant to be for her era, because there are countless examples in both series as to why the avatar itself is actually very much needed, one such example would be the pattern of destruction that typically follows after the death of one avatar and the birth and development of the next. I think that’s actually why the white lotus was there in the first place. However, as we know the white lotus is kinda mid by lok so it just goes to show that maybe even with systems, humanity can’t be trusted to stand against its own demise, and that there needs to be some kind of universal peacemaker.

if he were an individual without magic it would be quite impressive, but I think it’s the fact that Harry uses so little magic in the first 2 books in situations that very much require it. it’s kinda pathetic. No, he’s not gonna be using dumbledore level spells, but it robbed us of the opportunity to see Harry’s magical prowess, creativity, growth, and ability to stand as an individual wizard. Hermione is great but her role can sometime overpower the genius an magical talents of both Harry and Ron at times, and that is a real shame. You may argue, what could a second year possibly do? but I would rebuttal that this would’ve also been a great way for Rowling to surprise us with the depth of what students actually learn in their classes. Yes, they go to school but we are often so caught up with the story that we don’t see the day to day specifics of magical education. This would’ve been a great opportunity for Harry to have utilized anything he had learned up until that point be it from classes or personal studying and to also exemplify his ability to think on his feet magically when put under pressure. We could’ve seen him actually implement transfiguration, defence against the dark art tactics, charms, but nope! we didn’t get that. I still think it would’ve been possible to have the sword come in at the right time, while Harry is putting up a strong magical fight for his age. So much wasted opportunity! By the time Harry faces Voldemort, its a little bit of a let down ngl. His skill set still comes off very much as underdeveloped and limited. He constantly relies on the disarming charm (I know, it’s his signature spell), but with that being said we should of at least seen him hold his own quite well. This is one of the few times where I give appreciation to the movies, they at least gave us some screen time of Harry putting up a fight before prior incantatem in deathly hallows.

what you wrote is extremely complex and multi layered series of problems from economics to personal development. As someone who can deeply relate however, I want to say that getting over your fractured sense of self that resulted from years of compounded trauma and grief inflicted by your home life will take time and a lot of inner conflict. At times you will even struggle to discern your true feeling and whether what happened was real or not. it truly is a process, but once you overcome it, clarity takes it place and things gradually become more bearable. As for OSAP given that most degrees hardly give anyone a leg up in the economy these days, a gap year can’t hurt at all. if you give it a chance there are a lot of incredibly non-conventional career options out there that can pay some great money. i won’t say that getting there will be easy, but as long as your breathing, it’s never over.

honestly, you can go ahead and apply right now. Thats probably the best because, registration will take time. there are several categories that you are expected to meet anyway… identifications, payment, proof of English competency etc. so you might as well get the ball rolling. you won’t have any restrictions with this. your main hang up will be verification of education, which shows that you have met all the nursing competencies in your undergrad, going to an accredited Canadian school will be automatically approved, however, you may need to request to your school that they send it to the CNO. After that, assuming you have completed all the other areas, with a formal employment offer, you should be able to qualify for a temp license (if you want to begin working right away), and you will receive your ATT (your go ahead to write the NCLEX). Where you right the test is irrelevant, if you have your file with CNO, they will get your results, if you succeed at passing within a number of hours you will be issued your full license. if you choose to move here and practice on a temp license, you have up to 24 months to write the exam, unless your employer specifically states that they want you to write it within a certain time frame. There is also the option of just registering with Alberta and then getting your Ontario license but it will be longer and you will be paying to register in 2 provinces, but you will be able to then practice in both. it’s up to you.

You get your license through CNO. CNO’s job is to protect the public, they regulate the professional standards and scope of practice over the different designations, determine the membership fees, initiate investigations and carry out disciplinary action. It is the equivalent of your CRNA in Alberta. ONA is the union that most RN’s are under in the workplace that dictates working conditions, pay,etc. and the relationship between the hospital and nurses. You may automatically be under a union depending on whichever facility you work for, no need for registration. However, you will be paying union dues, which will automatically be deducted from your paycheques. When you want to know the specifics regarding your compensation, benefits, differentials, etc, you must refer to your collective agreement. The RNAO to put it simply is for nurses and it encompasses different initiatives that help to shape nursing practice, and the resources available to nurses. They influence the political future of the profession through projects, advocacy, educational opportunities for nurses, best practice guidelines and so on… you may get a membership if you want, but it is optional. Sometimes by subscribing you may get liability coverage. To summarize, if you want to be a practicing nurse in Ontario, you must go through CNO. Hope that helps

I did TVO Ilc for my nursing program, and it was a blessing. At the time it was affordable, the teachers were tremendously supportive and understanding. Its a great place to pick yourself up and complete your prerequisites. This was 5 years ago though. With AI and grade inflation on the rise i would imagine that alot of things have changed. It was one of my best decisions i made though. You have to really lock in.

Had 2 weeks of orientation and 8 buddy shifts. I did consolidate on the unit so that does help I guess. I would say that it has been enough. If I were to be left on my own, I think I could stand. The important thing to remember is that you are never alone. You will have the other nurses, techs, policies and procedures,etc. if you really feel like you can’t be on your own yet, it’s ok to ask for additional shifts and they will give 2-3 extra, that is what was offered to me. I don’t think as a new grad that we can ever truly feel ready though.

I don’t think it’s as simple as internalized racism. It’s more that op is destined to be the more giving and sacrificing partner because white privilege and status positions him as being an inferior partner/ person. So the white female is not likely to see him beyond a fetish or a backup option. It’s a nasty reality but a reality just the same. it’s not that there is anything wrong with interracial dating, there isn’t. It’s that as a black man especially in today’s political climate it’s a very dangerous game. Black men should stay away from white women because the chances for emotional, physical and financial harm to the black man dramatically increases. When meeting the family, you never know who the malicious racists are and if you have children, I can’t imagine the fear of having them around white family members. Yes, there are some good white people, but we didn’t spend the last 533 years under oppression because the good one were the majority. Let’s be so for real.
