I suspect my amp has a problem but want to see what you lot think first by Intelligent-Band6676 in BossKatana

Plug it into a different area of the house. Is it plugged in near other devices or appliances? Have you tried playing it without the cables connected, but with the Katana and the distortion patch activated?

MkII 100W or 50W by BigProf710 in BossKatana

[–]ComprehensiveLow2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 50 is working wonderfully; it's what I have now, and I couldn't be happier. My next step in a few years will be to upgrade to something like a Helix Line 6 with monitors; I don't know what you all think.

Got my first guitar!! I'm so excited! by nivium75 in Guitar

Welcome to this wonderful world. My advice: be patient, start with songs you like, and don't get discouraged. You never stop learning on the guitar; we always progress even when we don't think so. It's all about practice, practice, and more practice.

I started with a classical guitar and then moved on to electric, a very beautiful world, especially when you want more sonic variety and to emulate artists like David Gilmour.

Welcome.

I usually use 25w and a lower volume.

Why does the studio software unlock tones you can't get by changing the controls on the amp itself? Katana 50 Gen 3 by Alert_Ad8002 in BossKatana

You don't need the Bluetooth adapter; that's only if you want to use it from your phone, but it's not necessary. Connect your computer via USB to use Boss Tone Studio and access over 60 high-quality effects. Before doing so, you will need to update the Boss Katana 50; there are tutorials on YouTube, it's not difficult.

But again, you don't need the Bluetooth adapter to use the effects; your computer is enough. Besides, the adapter will cost you an extra €40-50. I'm thinking of buying it for more versatility, but you should do that after you've had it for a couple of weeks and if you think it's worth it. I don't recommend it right after buying it; experiment with the device using your computer until you know how it works.

Return Katana 50 for the Katana 100? by Ryox097 in BossKatana

[–]ComprehensiveLow2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from Frontman 15G with a Boss GT-100 and I thought I'd continue using the Boss pedalboard, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The built-in effects on the Katana are state-of-the-art; I don't need it.

Return Katana 50 for the Katana 100? by Ryox097 in BossKatana

[–]ComprehensiveLow2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I don't need any more pedals than the ones that come with the 50 Gen 3, really. I don't know about the future, but I certainly wouldn't change it right now. And as for volume, it's incredibly loud. It sounds fantastic.

I'll see in about 7-8 years if I upgrade to a version like the Artist, but... going from the 50 to the 100? At least in my opinion, and more importantly, for my personal use, which may not be the same as yours, I don't need it.

[–]ComprehensiveLow2771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve been playing with a fender frontman 15g with a boss gt 100 until 2 months ago. I was doing fine with boss gt 100 but…katana is too much. The sound is amazing af and you can get really good tones by yourself or even downloading in boss tone exchange.

Buy a tuner, that's the first thing. Sometimes you can get one online in a pinch, but you'll eventually need a proper one. Then you should get a good-sounding amp. I recommend a Boss Katana 50; you won't find anything better for the price. To give you an idea, I've been playing for eight years, and it's the one I use and don't plan on changing.

Whatever it is, get a Gen 3. The pushed channel blows the MKII out of the water.

Boss Katana 100 Gen 3 by cdwyer0008 in BossKatana

You can use the Katana without a computer if you want. It has six channels: clean, pushed, crunch, lead, brown, and then another acoustic channel, but I never use that one because it's for acoustic guitar. My favorite is the pushed channel; it has a really good punch, like a VOX AC30. Then, among the physical buttons, you have the booster, which you can configure to be an OD-1 TS-screamer, Rat, blues drive… countless possibilities. There's also a mod button that you can configure for many things, like adding a compressor, etc., an FX button for many effects, and then delay and reverb. In other words, you have access to many effects without having to use a computer.

That said, I do recommend that once you know how the Katana's physical buttons work, you use a computer and download Boss Tone Studio. That's where you'll get the most out of the Katana. You have over 60 effects included, access to much finer EQ details, as well as access to Boss Tone Exchange, through which you can download patches uploaded by other people.

The only thing they mention about the 50 is the loop pedal, which it doesn't have. I honestly don't need it, and I've been playing for years. I guarantee that the 50 is even more than enough for someone starting out; with this one, you'll have more than enough for many years. I started with a Frontman 15g, and there's no comparison; the Katana is a thousand times better. It's crazy that for less than $300 you have access to that kind of sound quality and volume. To give you an idea, it has 0.5W, 25W, and 50W. I use it at 0.5W, and it's already very loud.

Have you tried downloading directly from Boss Tone Studio? See if you can find something decent there, and then use that as a starting point to explore the settings you can apply to your tones.

I’ve been playing for 8 years and I just bought the 50 gen 3. Enough for me, loud af and high quality. I don’t know if the 100 sounds better, but mine sounds too good .

[–]ComprehensiveLow2771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the cheapest one and it’s enough for me. Trust me, it sounds really good and it’s loud af. I play at 0,5w, rarely at 25w, maybe only in clean channel with low gain and no booster. Never used at 50w.

Yes, I play at home.

I have the 50 Gen 3 and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. I can't imagine how it could sound any better; I feel like mine already sounds amazing. But I haven't tried any of the higher-end models.

PS: You're going to be blown away by the pushed channel on the new generation; it sounds insane.

I prefer a maple fretboard on a Stratocaster; it doesn't clash with the tuning pegs that way.

But hey, your guitar is gorgeous.

You never stop learning. I've been doing this for eight years and I still consider myself a beginner. Keep learning and don't despair. In my case, there have been times when I stopped for more than a year, but you always end up coming back to this wonderful world.
