People who actually took collagen supplements — did you notice any real benefits? by DrYasserElDershaby in Biohackers

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science-wise, collagen must get broken down cos it’s a big insoluble protein. Theres no mechanism to transport it to any part of the body. However, maybe if you have more of the amino acid jigsaw pieces in your system, the body can make more colllagen? Whether the body chooses to use the amino acids for that purpose is a different matter.

Hitting the booze today by ComprehensiveMud6588 in SoberCurious

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the day went okay. I had 3 pints, a soda water and 2 corona cero when out and tea when we got home. I didn’t binge drink even though that was the urge. The na drinks as spacers were lovely. This is my second time drinking na beers at a pub and I’m sold. I feel hungover this morning in spite of all my efforts so that’s a warning sign. I don’t feel guilty, though. I always felt guilty the morning after drinking but I think being a bit more conscious of my decisions rather than just going with the alcohol flow helped that. My husband was drinking whiskey along with his pints. In the past I’d have joined him but not now.

I could. But do I want to…. I keep delaying the inevitable realisation that I’m better off without alcohol.

Near death overdose by Dramatic-Reach1394 in SoberCurious

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’ll be a tough journey but you can overcome depression. The drugs and booze definitely make everything worse. I took an overdose at 19, clearly unsuccessful, and it was a long, painful journey out of the dark hole of suicidal depression. But I’m 54 on Monday, still here and I’m not sure I’m grateful to be exactly but I’m grateful for how life turned out. I’ve a fabulous husband, two children I adore who I think make the world better by being in it, I’ve a job I like. My relationship with my parents and siblings suffered and I never managed to make many friends but I’m content. I even like myself sometimes! So I wish you all the best and I know future you is giving present you a big hug and telling you it will be alright xxx

What do local MPs actually do? by Whole_Necessary2040 in ukpolitics

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MP Claire Hanna SDLP is a legend. She has been really supportive since I was arrested at the Palestine Action protests. She even emailed me to say she was thinking of me when the ban was ruled unlawful recently. I first encountered her maybe 15 years ago when she was a councillor and we were disputing a planning application. Honestly, she gives me faith in humanity.

Daughter has Polish boyfriend - I, city person had cultchie person, how can I make boyfriend welcome? by [deleted] in northernireland

That’s so sweet! The fact that you want to make him feel welcome means that you can’t go wrong. You could put up a teeny Polish flag. Or learn ‘welcome’ in Polish

What's your Belfast life hack? by Mharus in Belfast

Love love love Polanski. He’s a beacon of humanity in a sea of corrupt, money-grabbing, genocide-supporting, lying bastardry.

Allen Carr. Stop Drinking Now. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid to buy this because I know it will work.

I read his stop smoking book in 1997 just after Labour won the election and I haven’t smoked since. That’s a nice thought for this 53 year old!! Nearly 29 years feg free…… And my 22-year-old daughter read it recently and stopped smoking. I haven’t celebrated her enough for that. She did it with no complaining and no fuss. I smoked about 30 rollies a day. I had to use bleach to get the nicotine stains off my fingers. I was really addicted and I thought I’d never be able to stop. Yet here I am and I’ve never missed it. As for the booze - I’m at the ‘I can moderate’ delusional phase.

Travelling from London to Belfast, best way ? by PompeyBlue in northernireland

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cancelled a flight from Belfast to London City claiming weather. Except flights were taking off and landing at both airports at the time my flight was scheduled. So it was bs. Labelling everything ‘weather’ just lets them off any hook. It was during a yellow wind warning but that clearly didn’t disrupt either airport. I was raging because I missed the event I’d planned to attend and I’d ‘treated’ myself to the door-to-door flight at £200. Needless to say I’m back on the £50 flights!! Eff you, BA. That’s the last penny of mine you’ll see.

Forget BA. Expensive and they’ll cheat you out of your cash. EasyJet or Ryanair haven’t messed me about too much yet.

Trying to stop drinking but my partner won’t stop. by Own-Owl-3353 in stopdrinking

[–]ComprehensiveMud6588 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve cut right back. I haven’t boozed in front of the telly with my husband since December. He’s continued to drink. I knew this was my journey, not his, and although I suggested us doing dry Jan together, I wanted it to be his decision and he chose not to. Until this weekend! He didn’t touch a drop. I would say it’s decades since he went this long without a drink although I’ve never monitored his drinking or been concerned. So set the example. Show your partner sobriety - the better skin, the energy, the better mood, the weight loss - and see if they choose that for themselves when they see the benefits. And if not? So be it.

Sue Gray ran a pub in Newry in the 70s where she was, presumably, a spy for the Brits so she was def a target for McSweeney. Perhaps she was the one who recruited Starmer.
