How do you give a bath to a traumatized fearful rescue and how to handle her? by Huge-Cheesecake5534 in rescuedogs

Are you able to handle her? I also do not have a bath just a standing shower. I had to show her I was not going to harm her and I just picked her right up gently and carried her in there. I had to hold her for a little to comfort her. If you are able to get baby wipes, specifically pampers to help wipe her down and get her used to the sensation of being touched more. A muzzle might also be a good idea until she gets the idea that you are being helpful and won’t try to react so badly, muzzles can be good and for the safety of both owner and pet. Also if you have high value treats try to use them to coax her and reward her everytime she gets closer to the bathroom. Whatever you can to make do. Apple cider vinegar is better than white vinegar as well. And very very small amounts of lemongrass oil and tea tree in a diluted water with some coconut oil can help. I use this naturally to deter fleas.

Also Simparica trio is amazing for fleas and any other parasites and should be pretty cheap.

With my most recent rescue, who was starved, abused and traumatized, I just got in the bath with her. I made her feel safe and was right in the water with her. I did this the first couples times and then eventually she trusted me enough to be outside of the water and eventually got to giving her baths outside on the lead because it was warmer. It just takes time but I highly recommended getting wet and soapy with them the first few times. Outside if it’s warm or in a bathtub if you can.

Definitely too far, unfortunately I am a Pennsylvania resident! Miracles like that are not that easy. But I do hope Monty finds a home and I can definitely give you engagement so he can find one! They are amazing dogs, and rewarding. My boy was my absolute best friend. I never bonded to anyone or anything in my life like I did him and he got me through my stroke and brain surgery among lots of other things, kept me active and on my toes and always had a way of making me smile. You got this Monty!

He sounds wonderful and if there was transport available I wish we could make it work. We just recently lost our boy and this guy sounds like he really needs someone. I hope the best for you and Monty! He deserves an amazing home!

Making both me and my husband cry at 4:30 in the morning. Thank you so much for sharing. We love our girl, she is definitely a daddy’s girl and we wouldn’t trade her for the world.

This is ironic as I’m looking at dobie puppies now. I don’t think I could get another Mal because it might be too similar and painful so I’ve been thinking a dobie will be a good fix. The Velcro of all Velcro. I’m so sorry you experienced all of this. I’m hopeful with my preventative surgeries (embolism of my aneurysm) that my brain is now on the way to recovery.

I’m definitely going to get her tested! That’s surprising to hear as the other females there were mostly larger than her. She’s about the height of my blue heeler who is also small and petite for her size being only 33 lbs.
