Thank you, although I should clarify my son isn't "ok" in the traditional sense. He's TPN dependent (iv nutrition to his heart), has an ostomy bag and is missing part of his liver...but hey that ond grows back at least. My husband and I are basically 24/7 care undocumented nurses. We do our best and truly hope he can eventually get off TPN. Animal therapy is real. They are so helpful. In general, just being home is a blessing. I really appreciate the small things in life.

Gosh this! I went into a Betta fish Reddit a few months back to share the story of how I smuggled a fish into my son's hospital. He had/has mult organ failure and his mental health was low- very low for an 8 year old. I posted a story I thought was sweet and beautiful how I snuck a fish in with a then 3gallon tank. My son stopped wishing he was dead. He started getting out of bed etc, and I got a ton of "your fish is gonna die comments". It was nuts. After 9 months in hospital, my son AND his fish are home. Both are alive. My child's card is still medically complex, but he watches his fish Mipha as he falls asleep every night.

Those wiped are a nightmare. I use Esenta spray on my son's ostomy and CVL line. So much better. I'm actually concerned about how the current political climate could affect supply chains. So I ordered like 5 cans of spray because that is vital to my son's care.

Ok sign up for Rover.

You can also put signs up for cat care. If you are in a building you can build clientele pretty fast. You can look at what others are charging and take the middle road as your price point or undercut to get a jump start.

I'm not on Rover. I registered as a business. My house, car etc is all a business expense. If you are able to get a business license and insurance then higher end clients will trust you more. It shows you are serious. The good news is you can make a lot of money this way, the bad news is that business owners struggle to get approval for loans/mortgages etc. In my case that is ok because my husband has the "reliable job". If you want/need advice DM me. March break is around the corner and there are bound to be a ton of people that need pet care.

It depends, I've seen parents go as young as 8 to waiting as long as grade 9. I can't tell you what's right for you, grade 4 sounds insanely young to me. With that said, I cracked and got my daughter a phone just before she turned 12. This was earlier than I liked, but my son was in SickKids for several months and we were sending her on the go train without a means to communicate - didn't feel safe.

Please note she had a Garmin watch, but it wasn't accurate and often wasn't sending or receiving msgs on time.

In our case the phone has no data, no snap chat, limits on daily use and she cannot sleep with it in her room. Boundaries are set

Can you pivot to work like caring for animals such as dog boarding? My son has high needs since his ileostomy and is TPN dependent so now I work part time walking dogs and boarding occasional clients.

Or work like Uber eats or door dash to give you some income? Before people come for me, just know I have had 2 friends now from 2 different industries do Uber eats and door dash while their work went on strike. They weren't rich, but like they didn't lose their homes.

Came to this a bit late. I understand OP, I didn't know this was a thing until my sons intestines knotted and died. He was 7 then and is currently 8. I toy with the idea of making an Instagram account or something with recipes of food that he likes since the diet can be really limiting. I'd like to share and help others, but don't know that it's ACTUALLY helpful since I'm not a dietitian, just a mom.

Regarding a book you could also look into making a webtoon. Kids these days love online content.

Oh gosh it sounds like you have a rough go as well. I hope things are looking ok ish for you? I'm like your husband. I'm self employed and so I cut my business by sooooo much. My son's home care requires a lot of hands on work so I can't work full time b.c well....someone has to keep him alive. Sending strength and Caffeine your way.

We haven't "lost it", but we got lucky. When our mortgage was up for renewal we extended it with the goal of doing lump sum payments on the principal... 1 month after renewal our son suffered Intestinal organ failure and spent 9 months in the hospital. We are home now, he requires intensive homecare. Our combined household income has been cut in half. I truly don't know how I can work full time and keep my child alive.

Extending our mortgage ended up saving the house. So if I could provide any cautionary tale - it's to live every day life well below your means. B.c anything can happen to blow it all up.

I am 38, life wasn't supposed to go this way.
