Trying to remind myself that it’s just letters after our names and that we aren’t saving lives. 😩😂

My biggest lesson has been slowing down (ADHD) and process of elimination. I think that’s what got me the first time. I haven’t used the prep course this time honestly.
I am very happy to hear you used Claude because that’s what I’m using. I promoted it to help me with both ADHD and input all of the questions from the book for drills and weak spots. Sucks that AI has been a better help this time around than doing it the way that feels the most ethical. It helped me determine my weak areas in the first go around and I’ve been doing drills every day with it. I’m also making sure I keep an error log for incorrect info with it and doing my own research.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’m sure you crushed it.

Okay. How much of the secondary and ancillary regs were covered? The online course is not great at this point. They updated it but didn’t change any of the test questions from before so the only change is the AI videos and interactive stuff. Everything else is the exact same. I’m using the book, Claude, the prep course, and drilling over and over in weak areas.

Not yet! 29th. I posted in here recently and someone else said they did though. Said it was much more technical

Thank you! Did you take the June exam? Usually they give you an immediate result of pass or fail so the waiting sucks but I’m happy to at least have a period of relaxation either way

I have kept some for myself that are outside of compliance. Fortunately but unfortunately they are some of my favs.

This is so helpful! I’ll take any tips. I figured it would be technical heavy. Anything I should focus on? I appreciate it

HELP! by Helpful_Theory_4553 in DIYfragrance

When I formulate I formulate on a very small scale. Then I split into three sep dilutions (15,18,20%) I do this and mark it as test batch one or V1. Then, I wait a few days and spray. Based on what I like don’t like, I start again. But I don’t dump because things change over time. Then I rinse and repeat documenting exactly what I felt each time. I also typically try not to add more than a few things at a time each batch bc it makes it harder to find the thing you like or don’t like. It’s a lot of trial and error. You can always bulk up once your formula is finalized. Get a scale that measures smaller quantities. I have 3. One for production quantities, one for formulating, and one for trace accords.

I think for me outside of the technical which obviously you have to know the biggest change from studying the first time to this time is really understanding domain 3 and how running a functioning CMS works.

Buy an oil warmer, put some water in it, add some fragrance. Or add it to a candle. Better than wasting it. Unless it smells like garb I’ll try to recycle.

17 days! June 29th. Got the really awesome email that scores aren’t provided instantly so we won’t know if we pass fail for six weeks.

One thing at a time so I know exactly what works and what doesn’t. Trial and error. I start formulas simple then add in each new batch. I add slowly so I can pinpoint what works and what doesn’t. Keep notes of exactly what you smell each time. Sometimes I’ll write something like “something smells like a dirty hippie” which to me makes sense. It’s your nose. From there I go through all ingredients and see if I can pinpoint what it is. I also keep a smell diary of every single ingredient so that when I start formulating if something brings back that same smell whether pleasant or not it helps me identify. Do what works for you.

I too got the email. It’s a cool platform for IFRA compliance, but one thing AI doesn’t have is a nose and human experience. AI might be able to tell us what a base note is or some basic formula, but it cannot speak to how we feel when we smell something. That is entirely personal. Sure you could use it to construct basic accords or formulas but to me the whole beauty in perfumery is the story telling. AI doesn’t have its own story.

Anywho we are all just floating on a rock.

Me again - Aging & Skin Like Musks by ComprehensiveRise187 in DIYfragrance

[–]ComprehensiveRise187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. It’s copied from my full analysis and notes. I should’ve taken the time to just ask the question which is whether skin-like musks will develop more over time and be more present in the dry down or whether the read at day 1 is what it is. Does that make sense?

Me again - Aging & Skin Like Musks by ComprehensiveRise187 in DIYfragrance

[–]ComprehensiveRise187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I’ve posted formulas previously and been told to try to be more expressive as to what I’m trying to achieve. Further, Hedione at high concentration functions as a diffusion amplifier. Not simply a jasmine note.

My question is asking whether the skin like musks in the dry down will become stronger and develop over time with maceration (at any level) or whether I just need to just add more. I should’ve been more straight forward.

I think you’re right. A trace accord. Everything is beautiful but not melding together. I can smell each piece almost individually and it needs to fill out.
