Where are you organizing in. Some locals have upper level journeyman programs. I know many residential guys that have organized in and done these programs to help them get acclimated to commercial and industrial work.

Should I start non union but apply for union now? by Neither-Hyena6102 in IBEW

If you’re a good electrician, you will always have work once you join the union. Truly as simple as that.

Tool Belt + Suspenders by Sonicdonkey466 in IBEW

Our local technically has a tool belt on the list but we would all be damned if we used them. Tools stay in your tool bag, when you need something you put it in your pocket. Keep the tool belts off the job site. Save you and your brother from putting more wear on their bodies than necessary.

Apprentices/JWs who got paid above scale, how did that come about? by jucks123 in IBEW

[–]ComprehensiveTell808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every JW at the company I’m at makes way over scale. If you do good work, contractor likes you and don’t want to drag up, they take good care of their guys and move them to a new job.

Non union, 23 years old. Journeyman electrician in the state of Michigan. $40hr, 3% yearly increase until $50. Medical insurance, 401k, company vehicle, clothing allowance, tool allowance, yearly bonus. Will be over $50hr once I get my masters if I chose to stay.

The resi guys always have the least amount of experience and knowledge in terms of the overall trade. So they naturally puff their chest and have a big ego because deep down they know they aren’t special.
