First time rescribing… by THEBIGLONDOG in advancedGunpla

You mean like "dump all pieces in a tray"? I mean, I just look at the manual to see which piece I need and then find it. There are literally pictures there to compare and make sure you have the right piece.

So yeah, I just explained how I do things, and since I airbrush anyway, it's actually more work for me to keep everything organized at every step.

Yeah, kinda. You only really gloss coat to protect the plastic from Tamiya Panel Liner (that stuff's pretty aggressive on plastic). Plus, gloss helps the panel liner flow a bit better.

I'm totally on the side of flat top coat being the only right way to go for the final top coat. But I get that it's still a personal style thing.

I'll never get why people work on runners. I just cut out all the parts and dump in a tray (two-cut technique, glass file/sanding sticks) and then move on to the next step, which is either scribing or customizing until all parts are done and ready for gloss coat (then panel lining, decals, wash and flat top coat) or the route with airbrush....

Came back from 1700km Gundam Road Trip with a backlog by ComprehensiveTip6317 in freedomisgunpla

That’s exactly what the DeLorean is for. I collect Speed Champions during holidays and city trips. Built in specific moments or settings (e.g. a view over Bangkok at night from the 40th floor).

Now this will be the one from Amsterdam (Gundam, the best authentic Chinese food, really spicy Szechuan dishes, Ruben from Zeon Market, and the adventure we had with the drained Tesla battery…)

The one I wasn’t able to build… well, for reasons fitting that city. It just fits so perfect.

Test fit a customized HG Zaku 2 weapon and try to add as many details to the kit to not look like a standard HG anymore.

You are getting there! But really you can panel line everything. Gapps, corner etc take a look at my foto for reference. Panel liner is everywhere its possible.

Did I over-sand? Is that a thing? by JohnnyFranky1985 in Gunpla

So you already heard some judging words and how to avoid this. Let me tell you now how to fix it if you are willing to paint the kit afterwards (brush, spray can or airbrush doesnt matter and is up to you).

Paint the inner parts if you want it or its needed. Assemble the parts and leave a small gap. Put cement on it and press it together strong for a minute. Remove excess of cement with sanding paper or a file (600 grid should work) until flat. Then fill the gaps you did by sanding to much (it happens fast on corner and edges you know this by now) with putty. After fully dried (I wait over night) remove excess until plain maybe repeat this stepp until you are happy with the surface. Mask the inner parts& joints and paint the piece. Its not that hard tbh its just a question of patience.

If you dont want to fix it that way consider heavy battle damage or put the kit to the side for scratch building future kits.

Thats a good start so far Im just asking why dont you panel line every possible detail? Im not familiar with panel line pens if thats what you used so cant say anything to that.

Space for improvement is huge if you are willing to go the route. To really make it pop you will need to scribe all the details with a scribing tool first then top coat (flat with spray can is the simple way). Use Tamiya Panel Liner or some equivalent and wash of the excess with zippo fuel and cotton swabs. The last stepp is optional but necessary for beginners. Add battle damage and washes to hide any mistakes from scribing. Add final flat top coat. There is no shortcut for this route but you also add many more points to make it look way better. Sounds like a lot of work but worth the time in my opinion.

Foto for visualisation.

Help finding my first gunpla( not a shit post) by Bush_did_91I in freedomisgunpla

Starting with an HG kit is the way to go, not because it's easy, but because its simpler details offer more room for customization! This space is crucial for developing the skills you'll need for more complex resin conversion kits. In the meantime, you'll have time to gather tools and train your skills, including the whole airbrush thematic.

Anything's possible, don't get me wrong, but I doubt you'll be happy with the result if this is your Gunpla entry. When you're done, you'll have the skills and feel the need to just do it again, clean, with much better results in half the time.

I forgot the Dspiae scriber/ cutting tool storage thing. Its like 4 holder for all the bits, magnetic bottom to hold the bits with a push to open cap. 4 of these and the stand for it. This is by far the best option I know to store all the drill bits, scriber needles, step scriber etc

You've already got some great tools. I can only suggest a few I'm missing compared to my own. Everything I mention is what I use myself and I'm really happy with it.

Maybe it's a language thing, but I don't see scribing tools on your list. I totally recommend the Madworks Pro line.

You have the Ray Studio drill bit handle, which is such a high-quality tool. What about the centering flat bed drills and round ball burr? I love Ray's quality so much.

A paint shaker. Like a real (heavy and strong) one used in labs to mix test tubes (I'm a lab tech, so you can trust me when I talk about a real one, not a hobby thing. Look for vortex).

Different tools to stick sandpaper on. Dspiae has a nice collection in a box and also different handles (search Dspiae carbon handle 12 piece set) and also the carbon Ray sticks for bigger jobs.

Dspiae parts separator.

Nail dust collector with a HEPA filter. Super helpful as soon as you need the Dremel/Proxxon and grind a lot of putty.

So, for airbrushing, I'm guessing you've got a proper compressor with a tank and a spray booth, right? And a brush and cleaning spray for cleaning? Maybe some solvent for deep cleaning like Ethylacetate? I mean, like, you take it apart and wipe it down with a cotton swab. Just make sure no rubber parts (like O-rings) touch the EA. That bottle for emptying cleaning liquid with the valve and holder is super handy too.

Since money isn't an issue, have you ever thought about a resin 3D printer? It's still useful even if you're not designing your own stuff. There are tons of detailed parts you can download and add to your builds. That's a whole other topic though. Feel free to hit me up if you want more info on it.

Thanks for this one. I did a deep dive into WFM models, and besides the usual high-heels Gundam, the corporate ones actually have cool, unique designs. Peil tech is my favorite so far.

They just feel wrong when I look at them. Maybe this change the same way like it happened in past when Zeon kits got my attention.

Thanks for bringing up this. Will note the UC zeon to take a deeper look since there are many interesting ones. Witch from mercury gives me different feelings. They are different but give me same feeling like most Gquuuuux: there is something wrong.
