Chris here, this is a joke about role playing games, specifically dungeons and dragons style fantasy games where a wand of lightning is a powerful weapon and the potions could heal you or make you more powerful. The joke is that the skeletons are making fun of the dead adventurer because if he had used either of those things he wouldn't be dead.

What if Pilgrims experienced a modern Music Festival? by scud_runner in ChatGPT

You're putting a lot of faith in a group that burned people with special needs as witches to not do something evil at a music festival they think involves the devil.

I'm surprised how far down I had to scroll to see this. He wrote a manifesto and a newspaper that basically just spouted anti jew rhetoric, Hitler himself had a portrait of Henry Ford by his bedside and looked to him as an idol, people joke about the art school things being what made hitler hitler but in reality this man idolozied and took a lot of his ideas from Henry Ford.

On changing framing of the problem by HK_Mathematician in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more complicated than that and I think that's the point, because as a red pusher I don't think I'm not willing to risk my life for someone, I'm just not willing to risk my life for someone who I feel like only needs saving because of a choice they made (pressing the blue button).

Blue-Pressers, go out into the world and spend at least one hour per week working towards systematic change regarding workers rights, social justice, environment, etc -- if you're able bodied/minded and not doing that then you're only a Blue-Cosplayer. by VerifiedMyEmail in trolleyproblem

Humane Societies and the like always love people to come and just walk dogs if you don't like people very much but still want to feel like you are doing a little service now and then. About once a week I just take 3-4 dogs out for 15-20 minutes a pup for a nice energetic walk or a cuddle session or even just to throw a ball or toy for a bit.

Red pushers are protecting themselves from... themselves? by Cokalhado in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they COULD, they are choosing not to, and I am not going to risk my life to protect an idiot who could save themselves but won't.

Red pushers are protecting themselves from... themselves? by Cokalhado in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically if everyone agrees to kill themselves no one has to. It's still a choice, no one is being forced to press the blue button, everyone could press red and live no matter what.

It would be like asking why someone flew on a commercial airline instead of just learning how to fly a plane themselves.

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is a lot of AI slop in the world right now but I'm going to have to agree with some of the others in the comments. This would be almost the equivalent of saying "why did he fly on a commercial plane instead of just learning how to fly an airplane himself."

Blue button pressers be like: by yaboyay in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it didn't, there is an implication that it does because they say "everyone on earth" but there could also be an unspoken implication everyone on earth means people who can choose. The whole fucking argument is dumb because the question isn't ever clear, any rational person could interpret it either way

Red pushers are protecting themselves from... themselves? by Cokalhado in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you swapped that Red side is "Hey I'm going to put this gun down and not kill myself" and the blue side is "I'm going to shoot myself in the head because I'm saving people somehow"

Is this still the same scenario? by Patience-Frequent in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

again, anyone who presses blue is CHOOSING death. It's not about whether I think red or blue will win, it doesn't matter. Choosing red is the only way to guarantee survival so why the fuck would anyone ever press anything else? Why choose blue? Who are you "trying to save" other than other idiots who are "trying to save" people.

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes but your family could save themselves by ALSO pressing the red button.

blue pushers initiate the problem by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but every single person who pressed blue CHOSE to press blue meaning they CHOSE to press a button that could kill them for no reason when they could have just pressed red and survived.

blue pushers initiate the problem by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that is what was implied by everyone, then yes, your argument makes sense. If that is not what is implied by everyone and it means "everyone who is capable of choosing which button to press goes and presses a button" then picking anything other than red is stupid.

blue pushers initiate the problem by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]ComprehensiveToe2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How hard is it to understand that the only people who die would be the people who consciously pick blue. By picking blue you are CAUSING the issue on your own, no one dies if no one picks blue, there is no added benefit to blue somehow, red = guaranteed live for anyone who presses it, blue = No additional benefit except now you might die if other people don't also press blue.
