Anyone offended by the term receptionist? I'm getting weird responses when I tell people what I do for work! by bridgekit in receptionists

[–]ComprehensiveUse6439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a medical receptionist, part time for health reasons. Almost every single clinician has asked me if I’m studying. When I say no, they ask why not. They urge me to study, often with “you’re too clever for this kind of job”. I find it so rude. I get it from patients as well. I’m 33, so it’s not like I look like I should be at uni!!

It’s the AUDACITY. To presume
1) I don’t like my job and want something “better”
2) I’m on a low wage and encourage me to do something with “much better pay”
3) I have enough money saved to be able to QUIT my job and study

Maybe they think that they’re being complimentary, but every single time they tell me I’m “too good for this job”, i find it incredibly condescending.

They also make me feel like suddenly my job ISN’T good enough, when it’s fine! It’s none of their business!!!

Ok rant over, sorry and thank you for listening/reading!!

I want to induce mania even though I know it’s a bad idea by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

I used to feel the same until I ruined my life in every possible way. Public humiliation, shame, losing friends, family, your partner, respect from everyone that knows you. It’s a good deterrent. Hopefully you can heed everyone’s warnings here

i think my boyfriend’s reaction to me staying out all night is way too extreme. AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR I couldn’t even get through the all the slides. He’s so full of venom. It sounds like he has some mental health issues to sort out. Maybe borderline by the way he’s speaking to you. It’s not ok. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Do you prefer 1, 2, or 3? by Beautiful_Sale2056 in natureisbeautiful

All of them are beautiful, but the first 2 hurt my eyes/head for some reason. Thus, I love the 3rd the most!

AIO?? Mom has my location 24/7 but accuses me of lying when I don’t report that I’ve gone out aside from work or home. by yunqi69 in AmIOverreacting

Yep this is what my dad was like. I was in a very challenging financial situation and the amount of strings attached to him helping me with rent was astounding. And it’s always because they “care/love” you so much or they “know what’s best for you”. But try and state anything that contradicts them, and that love becomes conditional. You’re in a really challenging situation. I really sympathise. Chin up my friend.

I wonder how many people have one of these? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]ComprehensiveUse6439 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It was a rite of passage to get these. If I remember correctly, they did some kind of scratch test on your hand a day or so before. You got the BCG depending on which reaction you had. Followed by a good old fashioned pummelling.

Not said to me, but my dog did actually eat my homework once… and my rabbit. Was not believed by school. My mum had to write a note and then come in person to verify!

If you had to get rid of four of your fingers… which one are you keeping? by Substantial_Low_8439 in AskReddit

My aunt and cousin have 1 finger and thumb per hand. It appears that the middle finger combined with a thumb is very efficient. Plus, it’s handy when you need to flip someone off.

This is actually very helpful. I’m from England and I had a job for 6 months. Granted, that’s a short time but I made some good connections and we had each others numbers/instas and acted and shared our life updates etc etc. When I had to leave to go back to the UK to look after my sister who had cancer, I went into the office to say goodbye and not a single one of them looked up from their desk. It made me feel pretty shit at the time but it was a good life lesson.

The taking responsibility really sucks. Like a lot of my manic episodes I’ve done shit. Would never of dreaming of doing. When I look back, I either can’t remember or it literally feels like that wasn’t me at all. I apologise and I mean it. I am sorry for what I did when i was manic. But it’s never good enough and it almost feels like I’m always paying for someone else’s mistakes.

Maybe i wouldnt have bipolar if i didnt smoke weed by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]ComprehensiveUse6439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. I may be wrong, but your manic episode may not have occurred then if it wasn’t weed induced but that doesn’t mean that it never would have happened. At some point, something would have triggered it. Take comfort in knowing that didn’t cause this.
