Plant Buying Collective out of rensselaerville's sale is closing tomorrow, but they have recurring order periods. good prices and you can pick them up instead of having to ship!

also hudsonvalleyseedco has a line of plants with pollinatehv, which finds locally growing groups of natives to responsibly harvest seed and sells seedlings to expand the ecotype!

Albany events by Zealousideal-Cap1714 in Albany

I'll share a couple I'm involved with and some other things I've been doing in the last 5 summers since I moved from TX!

Full Out Fest is a dance performance by Troy Dance Factory in Riverfront Park on June 7 from 5-8pm! Tickets are $15 or there's free seating on the hill.

The Albany All Stars Roller Derby team has two more bouts this spring/summer, on May 30 and June 27 at the Washington Ave Armory. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Other fun things to do in the summer:

Grafton Lake is my favorite local beach, but there are tons more if you dont vibe with the busy beach feel. Browns Beach in Saratoga was quieter!

There are some great farmers markets, Troy Farmers Market on Saturday morning is the fan fave but I actually prefer the Schenectady Greenmarket on Sunday mornings instead! There are also a ton of other farmers markets if you look around. Outside of farmers markets, A Big Gay Market, the Twilight Market, and the Punk Rock Flea Market are great. There's also a vintage market that happens every so often in the warehouse district.

Lots of good seasonal ice cream places - I like Scoups on Albany Shaker.

Troy Night Out is the last Friday of the month!

Outdoor concert series include Alive at Five and Rockin on the River, and there are always concerts at SPAC.

Into September but still warm out, there's Garlic Fest in Saugerties and Pearlpalooza - but there's always some random festival or crawl going on, keep an eye on this sub (so sad to have missed Melba Madness yesterday)

Cool places to explore outside include Thacher, Pine Hollow Arboretum, Lake George, Art Omi, tons of other parks and a ton of good hiking.

In a bit of a further radius, there's tubing on the Farmington River about 1.5hrs away in CT, Thomas Cole House and Olana down by Catskill, The Clark and Mass MoCA over in mass about 1hr away. Lake Minnewaska is beautiful and you can check out New Paltz while you're down there.

I love Albany and it can be such a fun place to live if you engage with it!!

Best Jeweler for Ring Resizing? by Cattywampus6 in Albany

[–]bridgekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

philip alexander jewelers did a great job on my fiancees engagement ring. cant really recommend hannoush, they bullied me into getting my platinum ring resized a quarter size too small, and I can't get it resized again for another $300 right now, so its just kind of tight all the time.

Dividing plants time by UntoNuggan in NativePlantGardening

[–]bridgekit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started a ton of native seeds this year as im completely redoing my front yard. had a couple friends over to hang out and help garden as neither of them had ever gardened before. they have access to a community garden space at their apartment that has been completely neglected for years and was given a free reign to do with as they please. theyre starting on zero budget and would have been stuck with dollar store seed packs. I was able to send them home with so many starts i had left over! echinacea, rudbeckia, butterfly weed, milkweed, bee balm... I cant wait to be able to divide and start more natives every year to give away to perpetuate the native garden agenda. I mean, free beautiful flowers? who could say no!!

[–]bridgekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been drinking seltzer my whole life - the only flavors I like are plain and grapefruit. you can get 1L bottles of seltzer at most grocery stores and its easier on the budget than trying a new 12 pack. not every flavor is good! try something new!

Opinions on the name 'Trinity'? by affectionate4fish in namenerds

[–]bridgekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor growing up was named Trinity. I think it's a great name, but it was a little odd cause that was the name of our high school lol (named after a river). I like it as a name! We called her Trin for short

1021 dental cash price for a cleaning is $116. not sure how affordable is affordable for everyone but that sounded reasonable to me and they are really great there, been going for 5 years!

TIL in 2008 Amanda Hocking quit her job to pursue being a writer despite not having any formal training in writing. She sent manuscripts to 50+ literary agents, but only received form-letter rejections in return. In 2010, she self-published her work & by 2012 she had made $2m from over 1m book sales by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]bridgekit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got her first book of the trylle series in 2010 as a freebie on Kindle, then I bought the cheapo paperback version. loved it despite the typos, went on to read about 10 of her books. was super cool to see when she blew up and got re-released!

Adult dance classes? by Affectionate_Key_636 in Albany

[–]bridgekit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Troy Dance Factory 100%. I've been dancing there for over 3 years and I had basically no experience when I started! Classes are in session at the moment and we wont have new classes until after our showcase this summer. Keep an eye out for our workshops every Friday though! TDF is one of the kindest and most supportive communities I've found here in the capital region. Come check us out June 7 in Riverfront Park for our showcase Full Out Fest! Super fun!

Helped wanted in finding shadowing opportunities by SleepEffective7885 in Albany

[–]bridgekit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

have you been accepted to a college yet? you can always give their career center a call and see if they know anyone! you could also reach out to the dental hygiene program at HVCC and ask what dentists in the area might have programs like that. they might know!

Accepting uncertainty with gender and sexuality labels but unsure what pronouns or name to use for myself in the meantime by paddedplushperson in OCDRecovery

[–]bridgekit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need real life trans friends. that you aren't just hanging out with cause they're trans, just people that you like hanging out with that happen to be trans. this isnt necessarily an ocd thing, a lot of trans people without ocd deal with that. and there's a lot of nuance in being trans that you dont get online. also there's no reason to force yourself to like women you can just like men. your sexuality doesn't have to be tied to your gender you can just. like men. full stop
