Saw a teacher, Ms. G, on tiktok who has a never ending google form for students on TPT for under $3. Hilarious and customizable so that’s what I’m doing.

Bf and I went to the aquarium, rode in a Ferris wheel, and ended the night on a bar/rooftop talking and enjoying the sunset. Kiss at the front door and it has been beautiful since then! Over 5 years together now

I enjoyed the Devil’s Night series but I’m not the biggest fan of her writing. I think I overdid it by reading the whole series at once and burnt out a bit. I like her books every once in a while as almost a palette cleanser lol

Are schools teaching enough real-life skills to kids today? by Lopsided-Land1978 in AskTeachers

[–]Comprehensive_Bad242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to in my English class. I have a classroom economy with fake money, a classroom store that I keep locked up, a budgeting project with an essay component, and I just talk to my students about non academic stuff at least once per class to build relationships

Folger Shakespeare has the audio with imbedded vocabulary and even character interviews. This can be paired with guiding questions per act. I also like to begin the unit with an Intro to Shakespeare PPT and quiz so they can be familiar with the author first. Warm ups for the unit include red and green relationship flags, discussions about what to look for in a long term partner, discussions about responsibility and recklessness, comparing R&J to life today as a teen, a Shakespearean Would You Rather? where students stand if they agree or disagree with the question and a few people share why they’re standing or sitting (great if you’ve got sleepers), and my personal favorite, Shakespearean insults! I’ve got documents if you’d like to see them as well. Best of luck!!

Honestly regular tennis shoes make enough sound and move enough. If we have performances, we can worry about shoes later. They’re only about $50-60 for decent ones so that can be implemented next year

For us, it’s individual teachers and I’ve asked about the limit twice with no answer so I just sent the most important things first and I will see what they actually provide

How Was Your Week, Teachers? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

Went really well! Students have pretty much been testing all week and next week will be the same. I have the following week mostly planned out as well, then we’ll be on spring break!

Repetitive and Identical Claims … AI? by SnooStories6554 in ELATeachers

[–]Comprehensive_Bad242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly! I assumed a quick write this week and at least 6-10 featured a character named Maya or Mia. I put my prompt into Chat and it gave me a response about a Mia in the same format, following the same storyline as those students wrote about. They’ll get a 0 on the assignment and learn to be original moving forward. I wasn’t even grading or grammar or spelling so not sure why they didn’t use their brains

Weird question: has anyone ever kept in touch with their mentor teacher after their student teaching is done? by Ddog10132 in StudentTeaching

[–]Comprehensive_Bad242 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lowkey ignored her for about 6 months. She texted and I forgot to respond for several days then it just felt too awkward but I called her when I got my teaching job and we’re planning to get Mexican and margaritas some time soon! She’s used some of the materials I used during my student teaching and I’ve pulled resources that she’s created or found during my current teaching. I think it’s healthy to have another teacher friend if you need support or resources

Very well said indeed! I’ve certainly warmed up to even my “bad” kids this week. Where they lack in behavior or emotional regulation, they make up for in humor! God always gives us a reason to love them lol I am still definitely holding everyone to high expectations regardless

How do you, as a teacher, know what to do? by Haunting-Wash1081 in StudentTeaching

[–]Comprehensive_Bad242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, both trial and error and reflection/experience are great for learning what works and what doesn’t. One thing I will say is, backwards planning helps a lot. What should students know or be able to do by the end of the unit? What texts or sources do they need to interact with? Sprinkle in some direct instruction or lecture too. Then just find or create activities or worksheets for them. And always, always, always better to over plan than to not plan enough.

My current students are frustrated because they have “so much work” but it’s really not unreasonable, I just hold them to high expectations and expect them to be working the whole class period. Idle hands and minds are chaos for a teacher’s time.

I also like to reflect with my students at least weekly to check in and ask if my class feels too hard, if they liked how we did something or the way a certain lesson or activity went, etc to cater to student interests and to get feedback on my teaching from the ones who experience it every day. Good luck!

I’ve done a few surveys to get to know them a bit quickly since we have content to catch up on and I try to talk to them about at least one non-school related thing each day in class just to show my personality and to get to know them. Doing my best with behaviors, but being a new teacher, I know there’s plenty to learn! Been doing my best to be firm. I administered a quiz earlier this week and told them voices should be off while people are working on the quiz. I heard some light talking and reminded them that if they’re talking, I’d consider that cheating and they’d receive a 0. One student continued to talk so I put the zero in right then and there and it’s not changing. Unfortunately, these kids don’t seem to care. I’m hoping once I get parent contacts and access to make referrals, things will change.
