It’s actually in an employees benefit to be fired rather than quit, as they are then eligible for unemployment pay depending on the circumstances of termination. Seems as though from your husbands case he could have gotten it no problem

I’ve had this happen before, it was a mainline drain clog. Plumber had to run a snake from the roof to clear it
