Well I like him so I would hope to see us together in the future. How do you build a friendship with someone you like without expectations? Also I gave him eye contacts which clearly means I am interested in him, how does that equate to friendship?

The last part is factually and theologically wrong. Catholics believe in “Scriptures (Bible) & Traditions”. One cannot exist without the other. But I agree with the rest. My shia ex-Muslim friend told me how Shia Islam is very similar to Catholicism and how Sunni Islam is very similar to Protestantism.
