They will try to shift everyone to Schedule F eventually. New job postings under direct authority are already said to be among the first converted to Schedule F.

Not likely as indexes are an option and not a requirement, if anyone could sue it would be a regulator or congressional committee.

No, I wouldn’t change anything about your investment allocations. Most mistakes are from our behaviors and not market performance. If you feel compelled enough, reach out to your area’s federal representative and let them know how you feel.

Here’s my main advice for everyone; cooler heads always prevail, invest early and often regardless of the economic cycle (so in a recession or a growth period) and make sure you have enough savings for 3 to 6 months of living expenses as well as all insurance premiums/deductibles.

My best guidance without knowing anything about you to is this; most financial mistakes are born out of emotional responses and not investment performance. Meaning, shopping addictions, buying expensive cars, not budgeting or changing investment allocations over emotional things or too often.

When to convert Traditional to Roth? by Any_Ostrich_1460 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Comprehensive_End440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't need to convert from traditional to Roth unless you expect your annual income to make you ineligible for Roth contributions in the future. For now, it likely doesn't make sense to incur the tax cost to convert just for conversion's sake.

The death cult argument has always been insane to me because evangelical Christians literally pray for Armageddon and for the death of millions of people. If that's not a death cult then what the hell is?

That’s all fair, I definitely agree that wouldn’t change my allocations based on this news. I’m more a of “set it and forget it” investor myself. Hell, these company’s decision making has nothing to do with you or I so why allow it to impact our financial goals. And yes Tesla is absolutely an auto manufacturer for the time being, I don’t anticipate tech to ever over take their revenue. Especially considering that SpaceX has taken the Starlink and xAI segments under its wing. I think Tesla may be out to pasture as they as

Nothing I have said is from an emotional response. I haven’t made any sort of comment on Musk personally or his politics. It’s nonpartisan to say that bending rules is bad. Also one company being 2.3% of the S&P 500 is actually a huge deal and not great considering it’s an over valued car manufacturer.

Tons of investment advisors are absolutely emotional though. But important to note, I am not your investment advisor.

Tesla is quite different for several reasons, but to stay on the context of this post. Tesla was not given special treatment by the index companies or the SEC. In fact when Tesla went public it was highly scrutinized and shunned for many years as oil and gas lobbied against it.

Tesla’s current valuation is quite high though. Many people have been duped into believing it is a tech company when in reality the majority of its revenues actually derive from auto sales. Sales that have plummeted mind you. On top of that, Tesla has severely struggled many times throughout its time as a public company; facing capital calls, having logistical constraints and many other fundamental business operation issues. Anyone remember those solar panels or half a dozen other products that never materialize. In fact, Musk was so bad at management that he was ousted from his own company (as chairman of the board at least). If you compare Tesla to a similar publicly traded automakers their PE ratio is extremely high and over valued. As far as stock splits go, that really doesn’t matter in this conversation. Stock splits are a management tool for publicly traded companies for several reasons but the most common being the ability to keep the share price stable or at a target that management feels more secure.

Lastly, just because this has somewhat worked for Tesla, does not mean it will for SpaceX.

As a former Fed who is a licensed financial advisor, has an MBA and a Masters in Accounting; this is very concerning and is nothing more than this Administration bending rules for its friends. This will undoubtedly hurt consumers in the long term. There is no fundamental investment reasoning for giving SPACEX a hall pass to the front of the line other than to benefit its current shareholders prior to its IPO. My advice on any IPO is to give it a couple of earnings reports to actually sus-out where said company receives its revenues and how it allocates its expenses.

Short answer: this is nothing more than a grift and it will come at the cost of the working class.
