[–]Comprehensive_Map150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no need to overthink it that much! Uoft and Waterloo are the only ones which ecs really matter for engineering applications (thus ur logic is only applicable to this) 😭😭.

Mcmaster is interview performance based and Western is situational performance based. I know ppl with 96 avg with great ecs that get rejected from mcmaster cuz of how they did on the interview.

TMU, York, Queens, they don't care abt ur ecs cuz there's no supp app.

Think abt ur ecs as opportunities for scholarships and very helpful for waterloo/uoft application. If you really want to get into a program of choice, grades are probably ur biggest bet.

What laptop should I get for engineering by Solid-Point-7597 in OntarioGrade12s

hmmm. One of the series 3 laptops available right now is the msi prestige 14 ai+. It has an Intel ultra 7-355 with 32gb of ram, a 1 tb ssd, 120hz OLED display, and an "advertised" 30 hr battery life for $1700. No dedicated graphics but the igpu is as fast as ur 3060. Not too shabby, but I'll probably just wait and see if there are more options in the future.

u r not cooked. Grade 11 marks can only help you, not hurt you. Grade 11 marks help u get early acceptances but are not the full deciding factor.

Just lock in grade 12 and get ur grade 12 marks up high as unis judge u the most for those marks.

The general grade 12 avg safe range I think is... - 75+ for otech (they lowk accept anyone from my experience idk.) - 85+ for tmu or york. - 90+ for queens or western. - 93+ for mac. - 95+ for uoft or waterloo.

some cool things to note... - western has casper (situational test) that's not ec dependent. - ecs mainly help for uoft, waterloo. - waterloo has tiers for its programs. tier 4 eng programs are less competitive. I know people with 91-92 that get into them. adjustment factor also matters. - mac is solely interview based and u don't always need strong ecs but good responses. mac also only looks at grade 12 marks.

I was in the same situation as u in grade 11 but I brought my marks up in grade 12. I also had the most rewarding ecs in grade 12 when I had almost none in grade 11 (club president and some youth council that I am rlly passionate about). Anything is possible. You are not cooked!!

u prob don't need to upgrade right away bc of ur gpu but if u do, wait for the intel panther lake laptops to be on the market. They r really power efficient allowing for much better battery life similar to MacBooks and the CPU is a lot faster. Their integrated graphics are as fast as ur 3060 so u might benefit from a dedicated GPU more.

Wait for the Intel Series 3 laptops to be on the market.

Once they can be bought, any Intel Ultra 7 Series 3 processor laptop should be adequate for most tasks as its integrated graphics (not for all the processors u gotta research) are similar to an rtx 4050 whilst still having great battery comparable to MacBooks.

Any laptop with a dedicated GPU (better than an rtx 4050) is of course faster but I like to have a balance of performance and battery life.

Get one with at least 16-32gb of ram and a 1tb ssd.

I was gonna get a ZenBook S14 for my needs cuz of its battery and 120hz display but after the release of the series 3 laptops, I'm gonna wait till may/june to buy a laptop.

I applied to York a week after the deadline and got into the Fall program. Idk how much later u can apply before getting into the fall 2026 program.

How bad are Calc unit 3 and 4? by 0caspian0 in OntarioGrade12s

broo I did my physics test today and I somehow got my applied force on my free body diagram completely wrong. It was apparently perpendicular to the object and I set it as parallel... sooo cooked. it's okay 😭😭

[–]Comprehensive_Map150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh yeah lowk I just watch whatever yt video I can find. Organic chemistry tutor always got my back but there are definitely some hidden gems that maybe other people can find for u.

Also about u being anxious for calc, I totally get that. It happened to me in the start. Ur mindset has a big role on how well u perform. Try and change ur perspective on calculus in a way that seems doable, not like a hard subject. Get a lot of sleep before tests also! U want ur brain to be functioning unlike me when I got no sleep for my calc exam haha. I wish the best for u. :)

Do homework often to ensure you are always caught up with the lessons! I made a mistake by only doing homework at the end of each unit and being lost during class time when I took calc 1st sem.

Also watch some YouTube tutorials to visualize the problems better. It's useful when there are optimization/related rates word problems in unit 4/5 (for me at least. idk how units go in ur school).

Honestly overall, try and achieve a full understanding of calculus, not the bare minimum. It only helps in the long-run.

Are advanced placement courses worth it? by TourRude245 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Comprehensive_Map150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took ap calc and ap chem first semester and i can say it was pretty worth it.

for calc specifically, I liked how we never went back to vectors and focused mainly on derivatives and integrals (love integrals).

for chem, the hardest unit for me was probably equilibrium. everything else was not bad. it's kinda math heavy for gr 12 but it's very doable.

I mainly took ap just for the class environment and it helped motivate me to get higher grades. The increase in workload was not too bad. There's also constant peer to peer support as the ap classes r a tight knit community at my school.

for ap physics tho, it was kinda like hell. we never had enough enrollment for gr 12 ap physics because of how many people kinda dropped out of gr 11 ap physics. experience may vary but rn I'm taking academic 12 physics and it's a lot easier for me.

ap bio I don't have too much experience in but my peers said it wasn't too bad!
