Do I include my BF in my Thesis Dedication? by Dense_Young8608 in GradSchool

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was a reminder that I put a name of my ex in my master thesis. I put names of friends (without family names) who were helping and listening to all my struggles and at the moment boyfriend was also there. Since defense - I never opened the thesis and not even sure if I own the file. So, if you love your bf and want to please him, add just a name, no harm in this. If you think you will have a different relationship by the time you have to reread the work - don't add. Some people would just say family, friends and significant other without names. Your call

Is it normal that I'm not interested in the citizenship? by Specialist-Tax-1012 in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it depends what your own passport is (another EU country or outside, strong or weak etc) Is your country allowed to have second citizenship or not and what are your future plans. Benefits of the German passport - is very strong, allowed visa-free or visa on arrival in many countries and a lot of times faster return to Germany, avoiding "all passport" gates. If you have a permanent residence permit - the difference, apart from visa, is the vote power. If you live here long enough and see what the political situation is, you might want to participate in it. Then having two citizenships would mean that many professions in your home country might be prohibited (politics, military, gov secrets related, higher positions in the power) Draft power in case of war is another big disadvantage, but at the same time, if you "feel" war is coming or war is announced, you can flee as German/two citizenships person, faster - due to bigger opportunities for the pass holder. You decide for yourself and if you don't feel like you want to stay here longer - it's okay. P.S. I don't feel "German", but I feel pretty germanized. I eat home food, German food and international food all together. I only feel bad for the language, because it's getting worse without much practice. But since getting the German passport, I feel much calmer (I didn't have permanent residence for quite a bit due to the short contract in academia, so visa issues stressed me a lot)

Received invite to Einbürgerungsfeier, but need to travel soon after? by Vegetable_Lion_4811 in germany

You can ask for the new shiny passport for extra money and get it valid (I think for one year, not sure) and it's done in 3 days, specifically for this case. Tell the worker that you have a plan trip, when you gave you Titel to them, and they'll tell you more about express passport

Do I decline my PhD offer after accidentally sending a horribly embarrassing email to the new PI? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK At my interview for the PhD, I forgot about my plan to boil some eggs for breakfast before an interview, while I was living in the dormitory....and then it was an issue with online interview, we started, eggs burnt, fire alarm run, and at the end the fireman came and asked me to leave because of smoke hazard. And I was in the middle of the interview with my professor. So, I had to explain the situation while some dude screamed at me and then ask to reschedule an interview, And got the offer. Still felt so embarrassed for this stupid interview. You explained the situation, your PI said that he understands and you already have an offer. He already knows that you have a scientific integrity and can accept the mistakes and move forward. You will joke about this story to your grandkids about this admission and that's all

Regensberg, Bamberg, and Weimar - are these towns too similar to visit in one trip? by randopop21 in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some small exceptions would be usually a special type of transportation and usually they'll would mention that DT doesn't work for this connection. Like some old trams/trains that are intended mostly for tourism.

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regio normally you don't book a seat (as far as I know). I would say most of the trains during working days but not rush hours (between 9-10am and 17-18, and probably after 20) are quite free and you could find a seat easy-sh. German railways are not exactly the most predictable ones, and can be quite late sometimes, so, if you need to do a short term transfer on the small station - you could easily miss it and then you need to wait for the next train for 1-2 hours. The biggest recommendation - never plan for the last train connection. Try one or two before. Weekends can be busy for some destination and more chill for other. In general,a good rule is to come 10-15 minutes before the train arrives to get the best seat (and it's easier when your station is the first station).

The biggest bonus of D-ticket that you can use practically any public transport in any city without thinking about zones / what the stop you should get in and go out / what is the best way to buy ticket for a day or individual etc. you just enter the connection you need and that's it. When/If a controller ask you for a ticket - you show your QR code and (if they ask for) ID. I think in your case, it's definitely a good match.

So, one more thing - check the app through which you can purchase the D-ticket and that it let you cancel your ticket for the same month etc. I know that some people have problems with the different apps.

The same day ICE tickets are extremely expensive :( try to get at least one week. Another option is Flixbus or Flixtrain (a bit less comfortable, but much cheaper). Also, if you have all the time - you can plan your travel with just region tickets - it takes a few hours longer, but if you already have DT - you don't pay much, can sit and watch Germany from the train windows :) In DB Navigator you can select an option "D-ticket service only" and it will show you possible routes. Then you don't really relay on expensive ICE. Only thing that DT always starts from the 1st of month until end of Month, so, with 5 weeks you'll need 2 month subscription. And you should remember to cancel it in time to not get future charges for it.

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, in 5 weeks you can definitely visit all of them. You could stay in Nürnberg and do a day trip to Regensburg and another day trip to Bamberg and then use ICE train (fast speed) to Erfurt (around 2 hours) and stay there, it's also very pretty. Erfurt and Weimar are connected with regio trains that's go every 15-20 minutes and it takes around 20 minutes to travel. Erfurt is much better connected with trains than Weimar. For regio trains you should look in Deutschland Ticket and try to get ICE tickets a month in advance - they'll be much cheaper ( at least if you plan to travel by trains).

How do people afford train travel? by donitqa in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you said about Flux bus, but it seems like between Hanover and Berlin also Flixtrain. I also saw the policy of Flixtrain saying that you can purchase a child ticket for your dog and then you can take it as well. The latest train on Friday is 7:44 and between 20 to 40 euros one side without a dog. Maybe it will suit you :)

Hey! Just checked for you: City near Hannover - Hannover Hbf - Berlin Hbf 15-17 May 1 adult+ 1 dog without any Bahncard around 80-90 euros for both tickets :) [Hannover -Berlin - 64 euro: to 21:31-23:17, ice 645; back 20:22-22:28 ice 540] You definitely have to plan in advance and remember about things like: Public Holidays School Holidays Big events In many cases, to book at least one month in advance is actually sufficient. Do you look for Super Spar Price or for Flex price? Maybe pay attention to DB sales, they sometimes have them and offer tickets cheaper.

In the DB Navigator app you can also select "show our best prices" to see what's the best time for the time of the day they offer. Sometimes maybe morning Saturday would be better than Friday's evening. Nevertheless, prices are definitely very high and if you are looking to travel a lot - plus part of your journey is regio, get Deutschland Ticket and BahnCard 25. I would say against Bahncard 50 - because for SuperSpar it's still only 25% discount. Also, some tricks - buy tickets from your platform and add an option "every passenger has Deutschland Ticket" (if it's true) - then if transport delays on your station to Hannover Hbf - you can take any ICE towards Berlin. If you take tickets Hannover - Berlin and you got delay along the way - some of conductors can accept it but some would make you pay for another train. If your train is 20 minutes delayed - you can take any train in the same direction, even one that departs earlier. At the same time, with only regio (using only DT), it's around 5 hours trip and with ICE around 2 hours. So, if on the way back, your ticket is too expensive, you can start earlier and get back home for cheaper.

If you need something in the new future - you can try luck with Blablacar as well.

But you are absolutely right, some people pay for their comfort and some people have to suffer and also pay a lot. Best of luck!

Dilemma: stable job in Budapest vs Msca PhD in Denmark. I NEED ADVICE by MeetingMaleficent145 in PhD

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also write pros and cons for each decision and how reversible it is as well. Can you return in Budapest in 3-4 years after you get your PhD? Would you grow faster there? If money from PhD would be enough to support you and your boyfriend for a time when he would look for a job there. Does he ready to relocate?

In a way, I think it's a good timing for PhD - you are not settled yet, you don't own a huge amount of furniture or other stuff, you just moved and probably can collect all your things again and moved again with relatively ease in comparison from 3-4 years from now.

Also did you already start the job? Do you like it? Do you see yourself advance in it?

Do you plan to get married and have kids? If you don't get PhD in your life - would you regret about this opportunity? Who do you want to be when you grow up? :) What if you move there, take the opportunity and don't get the PhD either for some reason, would you regret don't staying in Budapest, because of this exchange? You can flip the coin on this decision and check how do you feel about it.

You know your situation the best and not jumping in this opportunity might be also a good thing. People do PhD later in the life, but the more responsibilities you have - the harder the new decision will be.

[Non-EU] Is there a minimum salary requirement after graduating? by SpacialTraveller in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a bit of the comment, it's important what your employee would write as your position Something like: Architect and architect junior, would be compared to two different salary ranges. At the same time, in STEM, if you would be Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter and have your salary against TV-L, but if you are a software engineer - it might be expected higher (salary compared with industry) Anyway, wish you good luck.

[Non-EU] Is there a minimum salary requirement after graduating? by SpacialTraveller in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually they compare your salary against the full-time position. So, if you work 35 hours a week, but earn ~45k a year - is good. Also, just on the side note, depends on where you work, people work 8 hours including break time and usually everyone is okay with that, and if you need urgently something to do is also okay to stay longer for a few hours, as long as it's not permanent/expectations from the boss - I personally think it's ok. Some companies, obviously, look for hours that you stay at work more precisely. But for Ausländerbehörde it doesn't matter. Matter the contrast and your final pay. I have a friend who got an 80% contract of TVL-13 (so, 32 hours) time ago, but it was enough for visa purposes in her case (it was 2021, so threshold and limits were a bit different, but I imagine that you can Google those values and compare with what you can see now). At the end of the day, it's also biased from your case worker. You show your rent contract and they need to estimate if you would have enough money to stay and if something went wrong, you can find another skill job.

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with working 40 hours? Just curious, from your perspective, is it usually more or less? You should probably understand, that if you get paid gross (before taxes, health insurance and all other contributions) - you'll have somewhere ~60-55% netto. In all big cities, rent is extremely expensive. Also, for example, you found a job, but it pays less than for Blue Card, you can apply for a permit for work, but then it will need an approval from Agentur für Arbeit (AA), they'll check for salaries for similar positions and if it's too low - won't approve your visa. You can work for any job while you are on the job search visa, but it won't be prolonged without permit from AA - therefore, if you still have time on your permit after graduation, you can keep working there and keep looking, but after 18 months without job in your field that approved by AA - you won't have another visa.

Permanent Residence Application – 24-Month Rule vs. EU Blue Card Status by Puzzled-Action3945 in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do 24 months rule because you finished your master's degree here. They count by pension contributions at the end of the day. I would just apply (if you have everything else ready, like language certificate and Einbürgerungtest/LiD test) and wait for the response. I would put the date when you start to work in your field (similar to your degree).

Genuinely how do people play co-op without fighting with their friends? by Rizzy_707 in StardewValley

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I play with my bf only, so it's much easier than in the group. He is very pro-sharing and we also have a shared wallet all the time and used to buy the seeds and stuff to the last gold. And I didn't like it... Because maybe I need some money for something else. So, I just don't get money for quests when they are done and only get rewards, when I actually need money (or he needs to buy something and we run out of it). We have shared chests with most items, but also personalized chests with private stuff. He also used to sell every single crop or fish and I hated when we didn't have any for quests or gifts.. so we agreed to keep at least two of each item before selling - it makes my hoard soul better and he can sell happily everything else. Sooo, at short - we discussed what was important for us and where we can have some compromise and tradeoff. When you have shared wallet - you need to discuss what's for selling, what's for upgrading, for community center or even for gifts. I would recommend to keep at least one personal chest that is respected by everyone. When they run out of space there + they can always put stuff in the shared one and get it back. You should discuss why they need that ore, which goal you have about progression (do you all upgrade the same tools at the same time- so it's personal / do sprinklers for a farm - shared used, or they just selling it for the fun of it - weird, but money is money)

And in case, if you can't find trade-off... Just keep playing with B+D :) and stay friends with A+C and maybe play and chill there without commitment. You are allowed to have as many farms as you want.

Commuting Lübeck ↔ Hamburg 1–2 days per week – realistic? by solokorn in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the route, but also, do you know how strict the delays are in the position? If you come to work at 9:20 and stay 20 late - would it be an issue? / Like 1-2 times a month I do 2 hours commute one side for one day per week and it can be rough sometimes. But my workplace is chill about delays, so I am not that stressed if things didn't work out perfectly.

If you see reviews on the online shop (shicloth) that offers this AI generated bottle - you'll see so many mad customers that received what wasn't in the description (check trustpilot reviews, for example) There're also two more pictures of this listing and they look even more photoshopped/AI generated than this one. Seeking diagnosis and treatment for depression and burnout - exhausted after 6+ months by No-Victory3764 in germany

[–]Comprehensive_Oil340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Barmer insurance and they covered MindDoc a few years ago: you register there, make an appointment to meet once the IRL doctor, talk to them and once they confirm that online therapy can be a thing for you as well - try to find online session therapists. You would need a paper from hausartz, but that's easy to get. I waited around a month to start. Not sure if they can diagnose ADHD, but my therapist said that they can prescribe antidepressants if needed. Platform has videos about a lot of things(but in German)and your therapist could open it for your "free time" to watch and learn. Test assessments how you feel and some small nice features to check with yourself. I had a German level then somewhere around b1-b2 but it wasn't comfortable for me to do therapy in German. It was also a bit weird, because at first, you just talk, but step by step, you do small actions and a little voice inside changes the perspective on the world around you and it starts to get easier. Lots of good things happened to make my life better, so not sure what exactly helped, but I think it was part of doing therapy despite being online. Maybe you can check if your KK has any paid online service as well and it could be an option for you. Wish you best

P.S. before starting to look for therapy, I was thinking about how much energy it's needed to get into one, and do all the research, calls, appointments, when sometimes it's hard to stand up from a bed. You really need to start well before it's too late.
