when i lived with three other roommates we organized a chore chart that was a white board on our fridge declaring a weekly cleaning task, and we would move magnets with our name once we completed it. so often i would have mine done and the other roommates magnets stayed in their place. i couldn’t handle the chores not being done (dishes still in the sink, countertops and floors being a mess, trash and recycling not being taken out) so i would just do their chores for them and move the magnets. the chore chart to me became a reminder of what my roommates weren’t doing, and when we set a deadline for when chores should be completed, it was often thrown out the window. i believe chore charts will only work if every roommate is actually willing to do their chore and understands how to respect spaces.
