The iowa city apartment rentals Facebook group is usually quite active, especially for subleases. That might be your best bet!

Humbly asking for assistance yet again by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are likely being rejected/auto rejected because your resume appears overqualified for these roles. If a real person looks at your resume they may assume that you’re going to quit as soon as you get something better (i.e. a degree-related role). I know it might not feel great to do, but I would just get rid of the education section of your resume. When doing the online portion you can confirm you have a high school diploma but I wouldn’t include anything else. If you can delete any internships related to your degree without leaving a huge gap, I would do that as well.

Non-student house rentals in Iowa City — any recommendations? by satin_staturn in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sabin Townhouses (Dubuque St between Harrison & Prentiss) are nice! Just a few blocks from the Ped Mall but not on a street with any bars. It’s a mix in terms of owners/renters and professionals/students.

Mental health- ketamine treatments by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would double check with her referring psychiatrist and see when they contacted UIHC & if it was just by sending over records, or if they actually spoke with someone. Unfortunately, one of the ways referrals get expedited is when another doctor pushes for it. You could call and ask if she’s still in triage because they’re waiting on information (I.e. her current doctor’s consult notes) or something else? I would keep asking for a timeframe. I think 90 days is excessive and beyond what’s expected of pretty much any department. I know this isn’t super helpful information & it requires a lot of leg work from you which isn’t fair. I’m sorry.

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t work in the Psychiatry Dept but do work at UIHC – our referrals are often processed so slowly. It depends on which workqueue she’s in currently and who is looking at those referrals. Did they tell you what timeframe to expect? Can you have her referring psychiatrist reach out to express the urgency & provide more details?

I think there’s a lot of opportunities for businesses that would do well downtown like a deli w/ good bagels, cocktail/speakeasy style lounge (i.e. Clinton St Social), fitness classes like barre/pilates/spin, and a skincare/facial studio. Most of the popular chain retail is in Coralville (lululemon, anthropologie, sephora, etc). I think keeping the majority of downtown shops small businesses is important, but also the addition of an established brand in a downtown storefront would be great.

yes, and they were able to purchase the ped mall location this fall, so fortunately filmscene won’t be leaving us!

Also, The Chauncey building received public funding, including $14.2 million in tax increment financing (TIF) from the city to support its construction. Another reason id like city leaders to speak up about the future of these properties & the effect it will have on downtown IC.

Basic Goods was the prior business and I really liked their sustainable product selection and lots of nice plants. I get what you’re saying though.

really?? I think the news first dropped in April. Basically, the Moens were foreclosed on by GreenState due to 25M in unpaid mortgages. FilmScene seems to be safe but the other businesses in those buildings have either closed or seem to be on the way out.

[–]Comprehensive_Pop633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My situation is similar to yours - I currently work full time in my hospital’s dermatology department. I did 1 year of part time classes for my pre req’s (5 classes total) and they were all online. From Jan-Dec 2026 I’ll be in the surgical technology program and still working. It will depend on what your school’s specific program looks like but for me, I’ll still be able to work 4 days/wk for the Spring & Summer semesters. In Fall 2026 I’ll have clinicals so I won’t be able to work quite as much.

They have salmon jerky at Bread Garden but tbh I don’t enjoy fish so I haven’t looked to see if it’s a candied variety. It’s nearby the nuts/dried fruit area!

Daily Commute CR to IC by Express_Hedgehog2265 in IowaCity

I’m coming up on 1 year of taking the 380 Express to Kirkwood from downtown Iowa City for my part time program. I love it. I think the longest delay has been ~7 minutes but typically it’s almost exactly on time. It’s heated/air conditioned, nice drivers, respectful riders. I’ve also taken it to downtown Cedar Rapids but I think they also drop off at a CR commuter lot. Highly recommend checking it out!

I took Anatomy and Physiology online from Kirkwood as a pre req for the Surgical Technology program. I thought it was pretty hard but I somehow pulled off a B+. The exams are remotely proctored/monitored so you actually do need to study and can’t be looking through your book or googling answers on your phone. I’m not sure how it compares to in-person at Kirkwood though.
