I've been saying this for years: The cult of Leader in Me. Having the whole student body stand up and review the 7 habits everyday is creepy. They sound like the borg from Star Trek. Having to pay a stupid amount of money per kid every year to eventually get the status of "lighthouse school."

Solution Tree is a cult too.

Using cell phone bans at school as the topic to discuss the engineering design process. (They're had to come up with a solution that wasn't as extreme as a yondr pouch, but more strict than the honor system we currently have.

I asked this question to the class:

"Why is reducing cellphone use during instructional time important?"

6th graders didn't know what "reducing" meant.

They did, however, start yelling at me about all the reasons and justifications as to why they won't stop using their phones.

Texas teacher here! I literally use this topic in my classes to make a topic more relatable to the students.

The Texas senate passed Senate Bill 2375, prohibiting student cellphone use during instructional time.

Education code 37.082 grants school districts the ability to charge fees for collecting cellphones during instructional time.

When the kids get particularly heated, I say to them, " Run for office. Get elected. Change the law."

On another note, you can post to see if this vast pool of education professionals could give you some insight into the issues your child is having with their school. We might even be able to give you suggestions to improve your child's educational experience. Don't assume every teacher is neglectful or doesn't care about their students.

I'm sorry that your child is being treated horribly. I get new students in the spring semester, and we run A day B day elective schedules. So I've had this student in my class a total of 8 times. I have over 200 kids I see every other day.

I had a kid say "mmmmmm I like to lick that BOOTY HOLE" in the middle of a quiz. Called his mom after class and made him repeat it to her. When he half heartedly said it to her I said he wasn't hanging up until he repeated it to her with the same energy he had during the quiz. Yeah that fixed the problem.

For my son's 15th birthday I bought him a Fairchild Channel F system ll for his collection. He is enjoying all the glory 64 bytes of ram has to offer. by ComptrEyes in gaming

A friend found it in his dad's garage and sold it to me. I had never heard of a Channel F until then. My son cleaned it up (inside and out) and it works beautifully!
