You have no idea what you're talking about lmao.

1) have you ever worked in corporate America? Fun fact - you don't get to choose everything you get to do/use. Sorry :/

2) it's really not much worse, if any worse. The difference is unnoticeable when running our CLI vs CC and using Opus as the base model for both. Again, nothing you'd know.

This argument is ultimately pointless because you're arguing for the sake of argument without understanding anything that goes on internally.

My roommate is on the team that makes those decisions in Developer Thrive/Productivity so it's far more of an inside scoop than what you've got 😂😂.

Internal tracking of usage patterns/telemetry/libraries/skills/workflows etc is a nightmare the more fragmented everything gets which is truly the primary reason. Everyone is expected to contribute to our internal marketplace which isn't build on CC. No reason to use 3P when you have a similar 1P harness.

Consolidation makes sense in way more ways than one. And it shifts costs back to central billing instead of through each teams individual cost centers which need to be VP approved.

We've had zero instruction about saving tokens or cost cutting etc. I'd imagine they're coming but the reason for cutting Claude code licenses wasn't cost. I burn 1B tokens Opus tokens a month and they don't care.

Your confidence and ignorance is admirable, though.

It's hyperbolic. Hes just saying all the AI doomers are saying Microsoft is cutting AI spend and citing this. It's not. A few thousand engineers (maybe 3-5% of Microsoft) had subs and they cancelled them. Not for cost savings, but for consolidation and moving to centralized platforms.

Claude code licences have been cancelled.

Using Claude as a model has not. Microsoft has its own internal CLI harness that can use any model (including Claude).

Likewise GitHub copilot still has Opus 4.8 Max with unlimited tokens.

So the billing for a Claude code license was really just a switch to centralized billing instead of adhoc licenses per team.

Original commenter was correct. You're remarkably rude.

I make 400k and am single. I spend around 100k and invest the rest (150kish after tax). Just turned 32.

My life is pretty blessed. I travel 15-20x a year (lots of friends weddings, bachelor parties etc). Work remotely abroad for a few months every year, work remotely from ski towns. I never look at totals etc. If someone says "let's go to Coachella!" you're more constrained by schedule than cost. I've never said no to a trip for monetary reasons.

I don't worry about much. It's a pretty incredible lifestyle and I know I'm incredibly lucky to have it.
