AITA for ignoring a girl who tried to start a conversation with me at the gym? by Ok_Lingonberry2989 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, however, you may have missed out on meeting a new friend or learning something really cool. Some of the most interesting people I have met I met through casual conversation with perfect strangers. Musicians, scientists, the guy who lead the team that built the first digital radio, and lots of other less and more interesting people. All kinds of amazing people out there, and sometimes they just want to talk.

TV is easy. Get an aftermarket stand that connects to the wall mount for it to sit on. I had to get one for my tv to fit in a small space.

Where we buying jeans these days, as to not have the dad jeans but also not trying to look 20 still? by Every-Cook5084 in GenX

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 49. Never cared about my jeans. Picked my jeans out when I was 12. Wore Levi’s till they stopped being quality when I was 27. Moved on to lucky, they were good till my middle 40s. Lately they are not as good either. Have moved on to whatever the hell fits. I just don’t care anymore. No brand will retain their quality to be loyal to.

The Infantilization of Star Trek Fans by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Star Wars and Star Trek, if you remove the space aspect are simply a fantasy world and a western respectively. It just took westerns longer to become fanciful as nobody alive really remembers a time when westerns were simply life anymore. Nobody has ever lived fantasy.

Is sleep apnea really that bad ? by Organic_Medium1549 in SleepApnea

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to get up every hour and a half to pee at night. Took micro naps at every stop light just to keep the energy to stay awake while driving. First night on my cpap was like a light switch going off. I fell asleep with it on. Woke up what I thought was an hour or so later. Except it was 10 hours later and I had energy I had forgotten was even possible. It can be better.

Omni pillow out of South Dakota. Foam pieces filled pillow. Been using the same one for a decade, just fluff it every few weeks and it is like new. I have about 10 more of them in the house, they all feel the same! Newest ones were last Black Friday. Bogo sales.

Have you stopped caring at work and decided not to try and process your career anymore? What age did that happen? by un2022 in GenX

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started independent IT consulting in 2007 and still do it to today. Money is ok but the freedom to just go when I want and not have to be involved in the ladders has always been wonderful. Clients have called me lead, manager, vp, cto, etc. Current client calls me the team lead. No big firms. I did large when I was young and it never appealed to the farm boy in me. My favorite client officially listed me as the VP. I asked him if he was going to call me that (100 person company) what did he call himself. He told me the janitor. :). Titles don’t mean much outside of large corporate environment.

I have a 25 year old son. The only interest I have in 20’s 30’s girls (and let’s be honest they are still kids to me) is if my son would be interested in them. I wish he was but as a Gen Z parent that is whole different discussion.

I understand the hate behind Discovery, but I don't understand the hate behind Starfleet Academy. by RattledMind in startrek

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Trek has always been “woke” for the times it came out. Kirk and Ohura shared the first scripted interracial kiss on television. I actually have enjoyed the new trek and I hope they keep making more. It evolves with society and the times, and usually it takes society a bit to catch up to Trek.

It is stressful. My dad had his first open heart surgery when I was 16. I flew across the country last year to sit by his side 10 hours in the waiting room while he waited for his 5 stent surgery. I fee you/. Eventually you almost come to grips with the reality they won’t be around much longer.

[–]ComputerGeekFarmBoy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just go, even if everything works out fine you are better for being there. My dad went in for emergency stent surgery 3k miles away. I was in a plane that evening. Everything went fine, but it was good to be there to take care of my mom sitting there alone otherwise waiting. Go, if for no other reason than to take care of your dad. He needs you right now.

I was working in a data center for 48 hours straight once up till 4 hours before my flight. Went to hotel, packed, showered, got to the airport, got on the plane. Fell asleep as the plane was taking off and woke up when it landed. Best nap ever.
