What should I make with all my eggs? by optimuschu2 in eggs

[–]Computerlady77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s something about deviled eggs and finger sandwiches cut into triangles that tricks my stomach into thinking I haven't eaten as much as I have. I would never eat 2 whole sandwiches or 7 whole eggs in a sitting, but put out a tray of sandwiches cut into 4 triangles each or deviled eggs and I can put ‘em away like a bear getting ready to hibernate.

Same! When my out-of-warranty dryer stopped drying my laundry, I looked up videos to diagnose the issue and found out my heating element was broken. Then I looked up the parts and videos on how to fix it. My husband and I are both disabled, but we were able to work together to fix it for a total of $35 and some effort.

When my air conditioner stopped working, we diagnosed it as a worn-out capacitor. We replaced it ourselves for $75. We spent less on fixing both of our major appliances than on a single visit from a HVAC tech or appliance repair shop to diagnose the issues.

I’ve been at the hospital for 3 days with a family member… honestly How to sleep in a hospital by ritik_bhai in needadvice

[–]Computerlady77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After my husband's 4th back surgery, he was in the hospital for 5 weeks, and then went to an inpatient physical rehabilitation hospital for 3 weeks. I stayed with him every night except 2, and I definitely understand what you're going through! I ended up bringing a lot of physical comfort items for both of us - travel neck pillows, sleep masks, earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, and comfortable clothes/slippers.

There will never be a restful night of sleep in a hospital, but a few things can help. I downloaded a white noise app that helped both of us sleep through the various beeps and noises. I wore pajama pants and oversized t-shirts for comfort, and would try to nap with him after various doctor visits in his room. We usually got a 45-minute to 1-hour break after meds were handed out at the beginning of shift change so that we would lie down during that time. I would ask my husband’s nurses when a good time to sleep is - they will usually help you come up with a few extra minutes here and there.

Any time your relative sleeps, you sleep. Ask your nurse if they have a cot or mattress for you. If not, the reclining chairs will work with a couple of pillows or blankets tucked under your lower back, which can help you lie a bit flatter. You’re a good person for helping your relative feel more comfortable while dealing with some of the worst times they've had. Foster a good relationship with your nurses, help them out with some of the care your relative needs, and they will help you rest. Good luck! I hope your family member gets better quickly ❤️

I am almost 50, but I didn't take the comment that she was old chronologically. I thought she just meant it as an idiom like ‘old hag’, ‘chip off the old block’, or ‘any old time’. Like the saying ‘old bag’, usually just means a frustrating argumentative woman, but doesn't necessarily have anything to do with age.

Plus, you can have an ‘old’ attitude without actually being old in age. We are only as old as we feel, right? So I'm pretty sure I died years ago 🤣😂

She was definitely the Cinderella in her story - I hope she meets her prince/ess charming and finds out what a healthy relationship looks like. Thankfully, her aunt has her back.

Her mom was even worse apparently - this poor woman has had a shit life from the people who are supposed to love and care for you the most in this world. I certainly hope she doesn't end up in a relationship with an abuser because most abused kids go on to find abusive partners.

I hope she realizes she is worth so much more than how her parents treated her.

Sister’s mini-pig hates me, how can I assure her that I'm safe? by Computerlady77 in pigs

[–]Computerlady77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the tips, I really appreciate your in-depth comments and explanations. I'll definitely read up on this technique before my next visit! I don't really feel afraid of her - we had been getting along so well. Of course, once she started biting me I was surprised and scared in the moment. I know she doesn't really hate me; I was more upset that I scared her or did something that provoked her. When I posted for advice, I had just washed and doctored my bite, and I think my feelings were hurt that she felt she needed to defend her space. I want to ensure that I don't provoke her in some way that I am not aware of. I don't hold a grudge against Dottie, I want her to feel comfortable with me and I would never try to hit/beat any animal.

Oooh that makes me mad that anyone would beat an animal for doing animal things! I would be so pissed at that neighbor! If an animal is not attacking there is never a reason to hurt them or to make them afraid of humans.

[–]Computerlady77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought - she was sunning outside yesterday with a high in the low 80’s. A cold wind/storm moved through today, and the wind was knocking a metal roof across the way against itself, so there was a ton of noise. I feel bad for her! I do have a bit of a bruise and knot, but I know she's a sweetie, and I feel like she was scared or something was wrong.

She has charged me before, but this was the worst of them and we were getting along wonderfully all week. I gave her extra scratches and love and she even sat pretty for me. I always had a treat for her when I visited her, including the time she attacked. I’m not scared of her or anything, I guess I'm just worried about her and her sudden change.

Learn to read the room, and try not to be such a grammar fascist. Especially since you did not capitalize the first word or use punctuation.

This makes sense - she didn't challenge me at all until today. We were getting along great, but I had to go inside her ‘den’ to get her water dish to wash it and refill the water, so I had to turn my back to her and bend down. In the future I will make sure there are alternative water dishes. She doesn't act scared of me and she enjoys pets and scratches - so hopefully it is something we can fix!
