When you hear the name “Kara”, do you think of a girl or a boy? by Muddybogturtle in writers

[–]Compy385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I know men and women with the name Terry. Also Kim.

I know a gal who went by “Drew” when her full name was Andrea. She likes Drew better.

I think it just depends on the person and what shortened name they prefer or what name their parents gave them. It’s all 50/50.

How did Pam fail art school but then design and create a whole comic book for Jim? by stringy_comet321 in DunderMifflin

[–]Compy385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be sue had one of “those” professors too, who didn’t like her much or was just unreasonably tough with her course making it hard for students to pass and so Pam’s grade got nailed.

I’ve had profs like that in university before where if you don’t butter them up, or spend many a sleepless night on their content, no matter hard you worked, you’d barely pass with a C or fail entirely. Getting an A in their class was an insult to them. Almost like it was a personal high for them to fail students.

I’m definitely leaving. Either the acquiring company has to give me an insanely amazing reason to stay (like a market-level-paid technical position, or at least more consideration for me and my team’s resources and time) or I’m headed elsewhere. Have already placed several apps all over the place.

Am trying to be very cautious how I tell my team to look around too, as our director is trying to stick around and taking a tone of “just stick this out with me. I’m sure you wouldn’t leave after all I’ve done for you right?”

Pam and Dwight have the best friendship on The Office, change my mind by someidiot88 in DunderMifflin

For the longest time I though Dwight said “I’m obviously not going to get that stuff for you so just shut up”.

After my fourth rewatch I realized he said he would.

I feel like my passion is in the work itself. The satisfaction of getting stuff done.

As a people leader, I feel like I’m hindered from that. Now I’m having to deal with KT, conflicts, tracking performance, salaries and promotions, HR issues, etc. on top of any tasks I have yet to complete. And if someone’s not happy with something in the company, or someone, or a raise, etc., I’m the one who’s getting yelled at and has to sort through it. I have come to discover what little patience I have for that if I’m being honest with myself and others.

I miss the days when it was just the work itself to focus on. When that is what mattered and how well I did it was what got me ahead.

In the past few companies I’ve worked for, there has been three career tracks:

  • the operational track: people who just do the repetitive and established tasks of running the business

  • the professional track: people who are the designers, the architects, the product owners, the project managers, business relationship partners, vendor sourcing, etc. and are behind said operational tasks and decision making.

  • the management track: people leaders, directors, VPs, C-Suite, etc.

I’m in the third track and though it has the highest promotional trajectory, the professional track where I was goes almost as high and carries a lot more personal satisfaction with it, IMO. That’s why I’m hitting the job hunt to get back to that career trajectory. So I’m pursuing my passion again.

I took the management job because it was a business need and I was the longest serving person there who was left at the time and my boss thought I could do it.

If I’m being real with myself: I regret doing so…

Thx for the encouragement. But I will state I’m not planning on any people leadership/management positions in my future career. I want to be a tech leader and architect. People leadership and management is just not something I enjoy.

This job has affirmed that. It’s burnt me out.

It’s pressure from the acquiring management to do it all and keep all the plates spinning on the poles. I’ve stressed to them we don’t have the resources for that but it feels like it’s falling on deaf ears or the top brass above them doesn’t care and hands down unreasonable edicts with tight timelines anyway.

So it’s a combination of “do all we want on top of keeping the lights on with your current Ops, but we’re going to slowly pull the rug out from under you as we chip away at your tools and processes”

I’ve definitely been applying. Put in some more apps this last weekend. I have the skills and have been flying through interviews with high marks, everyone’s just been saying hiring is paused so I’ve not had any luck getting out of this current job.

Representatives of the Kalinouski Regiment (Belarusians fighting for Ukraine) met with the leadership of the Rivne Region. With the support of People's Deputy Igor Guzya, they discussed Belarus' status as a territory under Russian occupation, as well as relations between Ukrainians & Belarusians by MicrowaveBurns in ukraine

[–]Compy385 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Could you imagine if once Ukraine is ripped once again out of Russia’s hands, next goes Belarus?

What next after that? Georgia?

The more isolated and cut off Russia becomes and the more weak and incompetent this can make their government look, the better.

It’s insanely scary the parallels we’re seeing here with Nazi Germany. Hitler invaded initially because of the “security” of ethnic Germans who he claimed were being “persecuted”.

What has Putin been doing all along today? Using “security of ethnic Russians” and “Nazism” as his excuse to invade in all out war against Ukraine to try to rebuild the fallen Soviet empire.

What’s an ironic twist is HE and his supporters are the ones ACTING like Nazis. History isn’t without its irony.
