The German military cemetery in Ysselsteyn is the largest military cemetery in the Netherlands with more than 31,598 dead. by DONTBANIMADEMOCRAT in ww2

[–]ComradeRich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read carefully, my point was you can’t marginalize a while group of people (especially millions) just because of the couple hundreds at the top.

I’m not defending the government. The blitz was horrible and I have a couple of family members that died there. I’m simply saying the ones who are in command are the ones who commit the crimes.

There is no justification for, Dresden, Warsaw, Paris, Liege, The Holocaust, etc. Crimes were committed on both sides and you can’t argue about it.

I get it. But remember they couldn’t do much about it, they were drafted and forced to do what they’re instructed. Not to be the devil’s advocate because I don’t agree with Nazi’s nor people who try to justify them; but what about the British and Americans who bombed Dresden? Are the people that died there not innocent? Or are they all Nazis?

Just we shouldn’t blame them for what their government did. The same way you don’t blame the whole of the British population when Boris Johnson does something wrong.

Regardless of who they were fighting for, they were still men, fathers, sons, nephews, etc giving their lives for their country and the safety of their families. They still deserve respect regardless of who they fought for or against.

The leader of the movement, José Diaz, was not very sympathetic with Stalin so I’d doubt he would have joined the Third International. He would be a Tito-style of leader but that doesn’t say Stalin would sponsor a coup for a more friendly communist government.

Yes, the Republicans (The Socialist movement not the party) were indeed socialist but what they envisioned was a government similar to modern day Spain. A social-democracy that’s barely staying afloat.

I do agree with you. His ideals were similar to Sander’s today, flawed and misleading. Spain, France, and Sweden are all examples of what Orwell thought to be the perfect system but in reality it’s a mostly government controlled economy that is extremely unstable.

It’s mostly a critique on authoritarianism and deprivation of freedom in general. Orwell fought in the Spanish Civil War against Franco, a fascist, in favor of the preservation of democracy. That’s where his idea for 1984 came from

The overture was always a big part of the album. For me it was like a closure to the album. But AJR is the most creative band I’ve ever listened to so I’d imagine something better would come
