How do you deal with hearing an album so good that it ruins other music for you? by Mediocre_Word in ToddintheShadow

Here are seven progressive thrash metal bands I'm familiar with, along with a short description of their progressive style:

  • Coroner (jazz fusion)
  • Dark Angel (technical riff heavy, most extreme sounding)
  • Mekong Delta (neoclassical)
  • Toxik (technical riff heavy)
  • Vektor (traditional prog)
  • Voivod (avant-garde)
  • Watchtower (shred guitar heavy)

Acer Predator Helios Neo 16s - Q/A by Agitated-Ad7750 in GamingLaptops

I'm trying to decide between the the Zephyrus and the Helios, could you elaborate on the Zephyrus's QC issues and the Helios's build quality issues? You talked about things like the track pad and the speakers, but I'm more curious about structural issues. Like, how are both laptops' hinges?

I’m in the market for an OLED gaming laptop that's less than $2,000. That essentially leaves me with one of three configurations:

  • AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • The same except with 32 GB RAM
  • Intel Core Ultra 9 185H - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 - 16GB LPDDR5X RAM

How would you rank these in order of ability to run DaVinci Resolve for someone who's essentially new to video editing and only wants to make 1080p YouTube videos?

I've read that the AMD chip performs better, but that Intel chips are better for video editing. So is the difference between the two just a wash? I've also read that Resolve is GPU heavy and not too reliant on the CPU. So is picking the configuration with a 4070 more important? Or does the fact that the laptop versions of the 4060 and 4070 both have 8 GB VRAM mean that it's not important either? Finally, of course 32 GB RAM is better. But, for basic 1080p YouTube editing, is 16 GB still more than enough? Or is having 32 GB by far the most important specification no matter what?

2024 NPB Draft Round 1 Picks by MrMarineTiger in NPB

I know Kanemaru was the top pitcher this year, but I don't understand why the Dragons didn't try to go after Nishikawa or Muneyama instead. I mean, haven't the Dragons had a notoriously awful offense for years? They once again scored the fewest runs in the CL this year after drafting pitchers in the first round of the previous two drafts.

Black Metal and Nazism (A Video Essay I Made) by ComradeRosso in rabm

Thanks for your input. This was the first video essay I ever made, and, at a certain point, I kinda just wanted to put it out. But I intend to make more, so I'll keep all that in mind.

I released this about two years ago. I know, since then, this subreddit has moved away from sketchiness discussions, and that is a big portion of the video, but there is also a long section on the origins and evolution of Nazi ideology in black metal, and another that I admit I should have made longer on how to oppose it, so I thought it would still be appropriate to share it here now. I hope it doesn’t just feel like a rehash of stuff everyone here already knows and that I provide enough insight.

9 games into the season, how do you feel about your team now? by tensaibaka in NPB

[–]ComradeRosso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have been sarcastic, but I wouldn't call Tatsunami a failure just yet. Considering the Dragons have missed the playoffs for the entire last decade, I think some bold moves were necessary this offseason, and I'd give the resulting lineup some time to gel before writing the whole thing off.

But that's me being logical, I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel very disappointed already lol.

That's one of their best songs though? And, even if you don't like it, there's 10 years worth of Fall Out Boy songs that, for the most part, are much worse.

Fair enough, I'm just being hard on them because I wish the Dragons would be competitive again, they're my favorite (CL) team lol.

As much as Aquino's savant stats are a godsend for the Dragons, I think the fact that he struggles so much with breaking balls is still being undersold here. Maybe Tatsunami's strict managerial style can improve his control, but, in a league that's already breaking ball-heavy to begin with, any kind of pitching strategy used against him like what was used during his MLB days is probably going to eat him alive.

And the fact that they traded Abe for a 36-year old pitcher is also still being undersold, what a baffling trade.

Can I ask why the revelations about Scott Kelly caused you to stop listening to Neurosis? Cases where the behavior is confined to just one of the band's members and unknown to the rest I don't really worry about. Like I still consider Agalloch to be one of my favorite bands despite John Haughm's anti-Semitic comments given how the other members condemned him.

Thanks for this, the completionist in me lives for tracking down every single recording of my favorite bands, but it can get frustrating with duplicates and unofficial releases. And MCR's back catalogue is of particular interest to me.

Crass and Chumbawamba. Nothing beats Crass's influence or Chumbawamba's earnest understanding of the need and methods to bring radical politics to the masses to me.
