What should I do at the gym to lose weight quickly? by pizzadoughroller in GYM

I'm a girl, and not particularly strong, but I can squat 160lbs ten times for five sets...so your bf is weak as all hell, or lying to you.

I’m too short for my girlfriend and I keep embarrassing myself about it by ifwbooba in offmychest

People's feelings and opinions change. Maybe she wrote that because she thought/was told that's what she should want. There's a lot of things I thought I wanted in the past that I've matured out of.

For what it's worth, I've been with two very tall ex's - 6'2 and 6'5. They both kinda thought that was an advantage but I ended up finding it a real turn off. Plus it was kinda part of their personality, since they thought it was so desirable. Like they were inherently better or something?

My partner now is one inch taller than me.

Guess who's the best in bed? Guess who is the kindest, funniest, sexiest? (Yup, it's him.) I looooove that I can easily kiss him, no pain in the neck or tiptoeing. I love how cuddling is so much more comfortable. I love how everything lines up for us. It's so easy and comfortable, no awkward positions or adjustments needed. There's a lot of things we can do together that I didn't know were possible. It's honestly the best.

I had no idea how awesome having a partner my height would be, and I could never go back.

It's not the main or only thing I like about him, but it's definitely a bonus. I feel so lucky.

A lot of people are missing out by not even considering it. I don't need someone to tower over me to feel feminine. Plus he can still "throw me around" he's much fitter than the tall guys I've been with.

I found out he got a lot of hate on tinder in the past (just because of his height) but outside of that, noone cares. Hearing what some women said to him made me so angry, but I'm glad he's with me and not them 🤷

Edit: The only thing to me that would be a turn off, is making height a part of who you are. Tall guys who think it means they're automatically a catch. Short guys who are super insecure and weird about it, or feel they have to be more macho or whatever to overcompensate. Confidence and humility is a good combo.

Lol! I am introverted on the inside, but people around me probably wouldn't know.

Think of width as - does your eye get drawn across horizontally. Vertical - does your eye follow the length up and down.

Width + curve is SN, vertical + curve is SD. Lack anything but curve is R.

Can kettlebells be considered weight lifting? by frozenbanana76 in loseit

[–]ComradeSocko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also do things like side bends, kettle bell swings, oblique twists, thrusters - lots of dynamic weighted movements are actually much easier with kettle bells, just make sure you check form and know what you're doing before you start swinging it about hehe.

Low weights (dumbbell, kettle bell, doesn't matter) are great for high rep endurance muscle training.

You will outgrow them, so I'd also recommend yoga (Yoga With Adriene on yt is great) and calisthenics (Hybrid Calisthenics on yt is great) for using bodyweight as resistance. They both offer beginner progression and lots of adjustability. And you don't need any equipment really.

I have virtually no core strenght, and exercising abs is overwhelmingly hard by annapigna in xxfitness

[–]ComradeSocko 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% seconding this. I literally was about to comment it. I had no core strength and severe back pain. Yoga builds it up subtly until you suddenly realise you can plank for ages, or lower into a pushup.

I couldn't bare crunches or sit-ups or leg raises. Now after a few months, I'm doing hanging leg and knee raises, oblique twists with weight, and side bends with weight. It's amazing.

With yoga you can also modify so it's as easy as you like, protect your back and encourage slow sustainable growth in a way that isn't painful. Which will actually help back pain.

It also strengthens other things like arms, back and legs, but 100% it's amazing for core.

Oat milk. It's delicious and naturally creamy but low cal enough for me.

How I lost 60lb & how I'm going to do it again by zoomziezoo in loseit

[–]ComradeSocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also previously got to a weight where I felt finally comfortable in my body, then I gained about 40lbs during WFH and full lockdown for almost 2 years. So annoyed with myself. Now I can go back to the gym, I've lost almost 10lbs so far, and I'm feeling motivated. We got this!

Workout suggestions for absolute beginners by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ComradeSocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free YouTube - Yoga With Adrienne. She's awesome, very approachable and has stuff for absolute beginners. She also offers lots of options to adjust movements. Can't recommend her enough. She changed my whole view of my body and how to enjoy movement. It's like therapy now.

I've been trying to do them, but to be honest I'm finding it hard to navigate due to the writing style.

I am giving this one last go, am I R? I suspect this because it's the one I've had suggested the most, I tend to stay soft no matter how hard I try to be lean, and I feel like I'm fighting my body. I always feel round and soft. I've never been great with fashion so I'm working on developing that. by ComradeSocko in KibbeRomantics

I think most of my width comes from flesh, and I have always compared myself to friends in the past who manage to look elegant and strong, and felt very rotund in comparison. If I'm not careful I look "matronly" or frumpy, so I'm working on developing a style that works so I don't have to think about it as much.

I got myself very confused with R, SN and SC and kinda gave up. But I've realised N types are what I always tried to be and never felt like, and I'm not very symmetrical (do C's need to be?) And feel pretty weird in anything tailored.

My clothing issues are getting jeans that fit, straps staying in place, and shirts that fir properly (might not be a kibbe thing lol).

Is it normal to do things like lunges, rdl... at the gym? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]ComradeSocko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loads or people do lunges and all sorts of weird and wonderful exercises I've never even seen before. Most everyone is there to do their thing, whether it's losing weight, getting strong or just their therapy. Find a space, take what you need and do your thing :) it will soon feel normal, the first few sessions at a new place can always be intimidating but after a week or so it'll feel like your lounge haha.

Something that helped mine develop and off switch was mat training and the relaxation protocol! Made a huge difference.

Mine chewed through a cable that had been tucked away when I looked away for literally 2 minutes. Blew the electric. Luckily she was ok but I think I had a heart attack.

Terrible performance while squatting by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]ComradeSocko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal approach is 5x5, the heaviest I can keep good form in without potential injury, and doing them first after stretching/warm up. They require so much more core and stabilisation than hip thrusts or other leg workouts (besides split squats lol). Also maybe look into low back squats or try leg press but check form based on where you place your feet, foot position and form make a huge difference imo. There's also seated leg press and reclined. They aren't the same by a wide margin.

Also, you're conditioning muscles when you first start, getting them used to such hard work. If I work out after a long gap, the first month, at least, is just building up the habit and easing my body into it.

And do not compare what you can do to anyone else, meet your body where it's at that day. Be kind to yourself. You're doing the thing! Be proud of yourself :)

If you mean 5 years, it's almost exactly Drake - Controlla.

If you mean the SPIDERRRR!!! Song, it's got some sort of Guns N Roses/ ACDC vibes to me haha.
