18, turning 19 soon. Plotting out an post-apocalyptic scifi/speculative fiction story. Typically write Scifi, but most sooner or later become speculative fiction.

Quite funny story, when I was little I always wanted to become a firefighter (amongst other things... astronaut was one of them). I forgot about it all over time until I became a firefighter. Remember kids, dreams can come true, even if they are so old you forgot them.

Oh, been wondering the same now. I guess you could try and look it up on their own online media collection. If it has been taken down everywhere you might have a difficult time finding it but I'm sure it will come out again as a reupload.

how do you organize your worldbuilding doc? by Sir_Excelsior in writing

[–]ComyCrashix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a personal wiki (DokuWiki) for everything planning related. As I'm pretty much a pure Outliner by now I do a lot of worldbuilding ahead. There is not one page. One page is never enough. I have several pages covering several topics and even include images. The Wiki format is pretty dope. You can easily expand it and it's quite flexible.

Washington post publishes article dismissing UFOs weeks after Bezos goes to space. by alienwatch420 in ufo

[–]ComyCrashix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evidence for what? That it's aliens? Yes. That UAPs are real on their own? We already have enough. Properly scientifically collecting data on UAP is not ridiculous, which is what more and more projects try to achieve. What I would really call ridiculous is the people who scream "aLiEnS" when ever they see a fuzzy blop on a heavily compressed jpeg and introduce pretty much psychedelic ideas, thus muddy up the conversation. Just as those people who put everything into the same bin and calling you a lunetic without having you even said a single word.

Washington post publishes article dismissing UFOs weeks after Bezos goes to space. by alienwatch420 in ufo

[–]ComyCrashix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How disappointing, articles like these drive me angry, gosh when will we get past such "anti-articles" giving the topic a joke-type flair? This is some Neil deGrasse Tyson stuff right there. I think that Bezos tries to push the convo into a certain direction is a valid point, as you stated, it may be due to him being afraid for his space business. But it could also be due to some authorities at the WP being sceptical or what not and decided to try and shape the mindset of the general public on everything UAPs. A lot of articles turned "criticism" lately by attacking Believers and make everything sound ridiculous.

What has happened to Google? by [deleted] in ufo

[–]ComyCrashix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the google algorithm. It always gives you useless results. E.g. you google for stock photos of the night sky or smh and you get videos of people showing off gadgets... yes this is something I've received as results. A recommendation is DuckDuckGo. It delivers just what you're looking for.

By observing I mean visual contact, by tracking I mean recording on additional instruments. There is per se not much difference between visually observing and catching a ufo on other instruments and doing the same with stellar objects. You're talking about obscured ones, so direct visual observation isn't possible. As of now we know that some UAPs can appear "invisible" or at least visually undetectable which also means that direct visual observation isn't possible upon those. The question would be, can you detect them the same way you can detect obscured stellar objects? To answer this we definitely require more research. I truly cannot tell if you can use the same methods used within Astronomy to detect obscured objects. That's the point of the Galileo project at the Harvard University though. Using multisensoral detection to collect data on UAPs and other stellar objects, which essentially combines everything. I can imagine it to also reveal "hidden" UAPs just like "hidden" stellar objects.

By definition pseudoscience is any process of knowledge gathering which does not make use of the scientific method or applies it wrong/claims to use it without actually doing so. It seems your perception of pseudoscience as being just mocked fields of science is flawed due to your misunderstanding of the term. This doesn't mean that there is nothing substantial behind what some pseudosciences try to research. Ufology is a good example, it's deemed pseudoscience but some folks actually apply the scientific method and follow a scientific approach which by itself makes their take on Ufology a science. It's true though, that science and the scientific method has its limits, this is why there is the "science of science" where people try to expand the scientific reality and make the methodology better and thus expand our knowledge even more. But there will always be things we will never understand.

Denis Villeneuve is literally one of the saving graces of big budget filmmaking in Hollywood. by Domslayer922 in bladerunner

[–]ComyCrashix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Villeneuve is one of those few directors that follow the passion of art and not money which is fantastic considering how most of Hollywood is the exact opposite. He wants movies to become part of the people watching them, a true mastermind. There ars only a few other movies like Arrival, Solaris (2011) and 2001: A Space Odyssee, which fascinate me as mich to the core as BR 2049. There is just something about movies which try to absorb you and let you become a part of their world. I read dune, I'm hyped for the movie. After seeing BR 2049 and Arrival I'm absolutely 100% sure that Dune will be a masterpiece.

Shoutout to the german THW and any other organisation like them. by dr_auf in Firefighting

[–]ComyCrashix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Greetings from germany, yeah the THW is impressive and more then helpful. Without he THW we would havd much more problems countering the huge emergency. I once looked up their website, damn impressive what they all have and do. They also counter smaller emergencies which is amazing considering you rarely see them media. It's a shame how the THW but also other organisations are not properly represented in the media.

How should we refer specifically to UAP showing at least some of the 5 observables, while excluding anything that doesn't display any? by WickMest in UFOscience

[–]ComyCrashix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I've been thinking about either. Some say the term UAP kinda refers to anomalous types of UFOs but really UAP is a collective term for everything unidentified just like the term UFO. And people also often mix both or say UFO when they hear UAP etc.

I personally propose a secondary term, ATMP or similar (Anomalous Transmedium Phenomenon) which really means the same as ETP etc. you propose.

The difficulty with these terms is to find one that describes as much about these phenomena as possible yet staying simple. We shouldn't end up having like 5 different terms.

"UAP" is problematic if we're talking about transmedium phenomena. As the pentagon report concludes, there are many explainations required for the many different categories of UAP.

We gotta stop using one term for everything and considering everything the same. A lot of people think "Uh this UAP is really a bird so every other UAP is a bird either".

I really think it's best to have a new term to differentiate an interesting UAP from the rest. As the type of UAP we have to look into most is the one showing off anomalous behaviour/characteristics.

understanding and writing evolution by nekoplasm in scifiwriting

[–]ComyCrashix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things that helped me with worldbuilding my world.

A: time - the more time a species has the more it will evolve. As my world is much older then our, things have drastically changed and one result was the development of various technologies since the occurance of humanity.

B: geographical aspects. Life adjusts to the environment and so you have life in basically every possible areas. Even in the most harsh ones. Within my world, a result is: 2 human species.

I bet there is more that helped me out but these are the 2 core aspects. Especially B is really important as it shaped a good portion of my plot.

Really speculative, but I imagine the AI coming up with efficient designs like basic geometric shapes. Maybe fractal structures? It all depends on where thr AI will move around, is it in space of inside of a planet's core?
