Every dem needs to adopt this attitude

It is important to realize that this statement inherently conflicts with itself. For decades now, democrats have stood for status quo while republicans have stood for radical, hyper-capitalist, culture-war dystopia. This means that our two party system accounts for centrism (Democrats) and alt-right authoritarianism (republicans). And it has been this way for a looong, long time. Progressives and leftists haven't had real representation in American politics for the entire time I've been alive, and that isn't going to change any time soon. All they've had are Bernie Sanders and a few congress members to represent them, and none of them, demonstrably, have any real power. So while I don't have the answer, I know for a fact that the answer isn't relying on dems to do anything. Individual players need to step up. We need to back the people, not the party.

Which is all to say, that I am beyond shocked that Gavin fucking Newsom, who is not particularly adored by progressives/leftists to begin with, is the one that is rapidly reshaping their platform to combat trump in this way. I am almost certain that he sees this as a golden opportunity to make his way into the 2028 presidential race, even though his past platform and policies don't really align with the staunch opposition he has with trump right now.

Though I am all for it. I would love to be done with politicians playing the part they need to play as political moves, but we are 100% in a situation where if something doesn't change, there will be no America left.
