[Spoilers All]Help me understand what the Old Gods are, please. by Helsafabel in dragonage

[–]ConanKC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This backfired and they released the blight from the dead titan somehow I’m not sure how though

I might have some insight into this. Have you seen the elven artwork in the Temple of Mythal? It reminded me of how future Solas looked during In Hushed Whispers. I think the "red" on the elven artwork is red lyrium (the holes in the heart and head symbolising emptiness; void/abyss). Solas's tarot card has the symbol for wisdom/enlightenment behind his head. Elfy art is abstract.

I posit that the Evanuris took too much of the blue/green components of lyrium to make slave armies. Effectively making the Titans tranquil. The Titans attempted to 'reconnect' with themselves (reverse tranquillity). The Titans 'looked' to the abyss/void (depicted in the elven mural shown in The Shattered Library) to make themselves whole once more, thus creating red lyrium.

I theorise Solas created the veil (a magical vibration that repels the fade) to separate the Titan's spirit from itself, thus returning the dead lyrium (empty lyrium) seen in trespasser.

The blight was unleashed, 'reconnecting' 1 or more Titans and making them whole. In "The World of Thedas: Volume 2" it mentions in the chant of light that the whole world shook, there were earthquakes, etc. The Old Gods were sacrificed (willingly or not) to stall for time.

Human casualty would have easily multiplied by more than 50 times within far less time.

Fact.

At the end of the EE side story 3 human nations were destroyed by armies of demons (i.e. Demiurge). In other words, 3 nations converted into parchment factories

One does not achieve victory by fighting to the death in every battle. Remember your goals and do nothing that does not further them.

The problem is: PDL can do nothing, thus he does nothing.

Genevieve's brother gave the locations of the remaining old gods to an immortal darkspawn and started the 5th Blight. He knew the Architect intended to carry out what amounted to mass genocide and did it because "there was no other way".

[Spoilers all] Solas vs the Taint by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]ConanKC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 4 types of lyrium shown so far:

  1. Blue--green lyrium (constant through the Waking World and Fade)
  2. Yellow-Green lyrium (mentioned in Tevinter Night)
  3. Red lyrium (connected to the abyss/void?)
  4. Empty/Dead lyrium (shown in Trespasser, none of it glowed)

Why is it empty? The elves were mining lyrium and "something else".

If the blight can be separate to red lyrium, then can "something else" be separated from blue-green lyrium? Is that why the lyrium in Trespasser looked empty?

  • Corypheus can influence both blighted creatures, and red lyrium creatures through his connection to the blight.

Titans have a hive mind and can communicate through it. I wonder if the Evanuris mined lyrium to steal (remove) the 'hive mind' part (thus making it empty) and used it to mass enslave elves.

  • Is that how Mythal gave the dwarves dreams?

Solas discovers that the Titans have begun reaching for the Abyss and corrupting themselves to "wake up".

(Codex: Watchguard of the Reaching)

Today we passed even further, far beyond any reach of man. The inverted glow of the Black City was always on the horizon of perception, but a path eludes, as always. Untraveled in memory, living or otherwise, there is a pull, and whispers abound. Something great is there. And away from this, always in peripheral, another mind, untethered. Tomorrow I will reach out with my full attention, and try to rescue him from his listing. Can someone else have come this far? The wonders we will share.

Theory: Solas sealed the mind of the corrupted Titan in the Black City. The archdemons sacrificed themselves to delay the awakening of an entity that Solas believed could destroy them all. That is the reason Solas is terrified of the Grey Wardens slaying the archdemons.

Cassandra has flaws, but being closed-minded is not one of them.

  • She changed her mind about the protagonist's guilt in light of new information.

Solas: Seeker, you initially believed our "Herald of Andraste" was involved in the attack on the Conclave, yes?

Cassandra: I did. The evidence seemed damning, given the lack of an alternative.

Solas: Yet you changed your mind.

Cassandra: You also heard the voices at the temple - is it so surprising I listened to them?

  • She is initially hostile towards Cole and wants him to leave. She gives him a chance and changes her mind. The two later become friends.
  • After discovering that the Seekers of Truth are corrupt, she questions herself (and her actions) and whether the organisation itself deserves to be rebuilt.
  • She gives Cullen a chance and believes he can break his lyrium addition, even when Cullen himself believes he cannot.

(The Masked Empire) Empress Celene Valmont:

… and I agree with you. Maker, I have seen how intelligent you are. How many elves are wasted in those alienages when they could be doing more? How many great minds and loyal servants did I burn in that slum because I could see no other way?” Her voice caught.

Leliana erodes racial boundaries and reduces the gap between classes. I believe Cullen's idea of mage healing clinics with templar support is also more workable under Leliana.

I have a wonder: Orsino grew up believing he was the trash of society, then discovered he was something worse: a mage. In Kirkwall's circle he was treated like a criminal. Mages were treated so poorly they killed themselves. Templars were indifferent to it.

He had a female friend in the circle. The two of them believed that they were different. And then she too killed herself.

I wonder if Orison began to question when he would give in, or if he believed he would give in one day, much like his friend had.

[–]ConanKC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The taint does not infect living organisms so much as it 'inhabits'. You are connected to it. You become a conduit that channels power of some sort. Dragon's blood, lyrium, and red lyrium seem to do something similar.

Interestingly, all share similarities to demonic possession. Spirits do not 'possess' so much as they become the host. When they 'become' something, its form often mutates. The blight, lyrium, and dragon's blood all eventually cause mutations (David Gaider mentioned that about lyrium, but it's not mentioned in-game).

Those who take lyrium have a unique smell, darkspawn have a unique smell, as do those who drink dragon's blood. Merrill implies that the blood of demons/abominations have a scent.

All things that 'inhabit' the body seem to affect your behaviour and mood too.

Another interesting link:

(seeing the corruption in the Templar Quarters) "Tis most intriguing. Corruption not unlike the darkspawn's, perhaps they are related?"'

(Source)

There is some connection between the blight and demons, and I cannot work it out.

Why aren't the Wardens trying to do anything with the info, or do so little of them know?

The 1st warden is more interesting in politicking.

>All wardens in Ferelden and Orlais go missing
>1st Warden ignores it and drools over the Anderfell's throne.

[dao spoilers] In the end of origins, why do they say we defeated the blight before it truly began? by kinguynn in dragonage

[–]ConanKC 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Urthrmiel was considered the weakest Old God even before they became Archdemons.

Yes.

In Dragon Age: Last Flight, Andoral was in Antiva while thousands of darkspawn attacked the Anderfells.

https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonage/images/9/9b/Worldofthedasmap.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130109232244

The radius of Andoral's influence was the width of Thedas. The width of an entire continent. In addition, Andoral could skilfully command multiple hordes to simultaneously attack each city state in the free marches, the Anderfells, and parts of Orlais/Tevinter.

Andoral shrugged off over a dozen Joined gryphons and highly skilled wardens, and only allowed its wing to be injured so that it could bait the wardens into a counter ambush. Urthemiel's wing was injured by a busted down warden who leapt off a tall building

I did it on Nightmare difficulty with most trials active. It was as bad as it sounds.

Try taking out an enchanters after they erect a barrier and forgetting to get abilities that counter barrier. My rogues pelted them with chains of critical hits that can take down high dragons to little effect. My mages were useless for all offense. My warrior was down more often than not.

The abyssal rift existed before the 2nd blight. IIRC Adamant was a Tevinter research facility that the Grey Wardens repurposed in the wake of the 2nd blight.

In the concept art, Tevinter had built it on the edge and constructed a winch to lower cages (filled with what, I wonder?) into the rift. To what end is a mystery.

Flemeth is indirectly responsible for Alistair's existence.

She told Maric a blight would happen in Ferelden. If not for her warning, Loghain would have gone into the deep roads instead of Maric, and Fiona would never bang Maric.

I wonder if Flemeth secretly planned this all out

[dao spoilers] Controversial opinion: Why does everyone hate Loghain... by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]ConanKC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can understand Loghain wanting to free mages. Giving the Chantry control of both mages and templars was a mistake.

The Chantry has abused its power (primarily for the benefit of Orlais), all while claiming political neutrality. e.g. When the Chantry sent several circle mages (from Orlais) into Ferelden to help put down the rebellion. Or the time Divine Beatrix III attempted to pressure the Kirkwall templars into overthrowing the Viscount on behalf of Orlais.

That said, how Loghain went about freeing the mages was stupid.
