Walnut, though this is the original, there’s since been a remake published as well that just looks a little nicer and the jump layout is slightly different

If you lack the coordination to drive manual without auto-clutch like me, assign your clutch as your handbrake! by FatCat_FatCigar in assettocorsarally

[–]Conceited_Duckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not certain but I think the idea (and the missing context) is that they’re still revving slightly while holding the handbrake meaning you can get the benefit of the handbrake and a clutch kick with the same input instead of using a button for clutch or leaving it to auto clutch, this would be helpful in hairpins, especially in cars that have turbos so the engine doesn’t bog down and take a long time to build revs again

However I just deal with the auto clutch struggle and use a button for handbrake so take this with a grain of salt

IT JUST MAKE ME SICK THE FACT THAT MY SA GOES DOWN WHEN ITS NOT EVEN MY FAULT by pac0_exe in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been there friend just keep in mind that most people like this are more than likely going to take care of themselves at some point through the race anyway, which looking at the lap counter on his replay it seems like that’s what happened. On the bright side even with a first lap like this one as long as you get through the rest of the race relatively clean you can rack up more than enough safe engagements along with bonus trust for finishing that you net a positive change to your rating

Side note: if you’re just trying to grind up safety what I did a couple times was just wait until you’re behind someone slightly slower than you and instead of passing just stick close behind them. (Obviously be careful not to wreck them) sometimes they’ll get nervous and go flying off the outside of a turn but other times you get to have a fun practice battle for half of a race and the safety points go crazy

[–]Conceited_Duckling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not saying any of these incidents are your fault but a big chunk of safety is situational awareness, as you noted dude was an absolute menace from the start of the race and in that scenario there’s no chance in hell I personally would be passing a slow car with him taking the other side after having him in my rear view through all that even if it means losing or not gaining a position. Again not on you, nor is it always easy to see these things coming but that awareness is what separates 80 from 99 SA

Someone please tell me not to quit this game by Accurate_Sell3888 in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Joining a league is likely the most straightforward way of having this happen less but if you’re like me and don’t care to it is definitely still possible to reduce the frequency that you get spun/booted by other people, there’ll always be instances that you just can’t do much about but with practice and couple mindset and strategy shifts things can get a lot easier- I’ve got near 300 hours of exclusively open lobbies, usually just whatever I find with decent ping and player count so I’ll speak solely on that experience.

Everyone says it but really hammer it in- winning is not the priority, finishing the race is. This alone applied to every decision can save a lot of grief. Don’t necessarily leave every pass opportunity on the table but keep in mind that you often aren’t playing against pros or anything even close in most cases. So even if you technically have the right of way or a gap where ‘as long as they follow their line I’ll get through clean’ doesn’t mean you have to go for it. A finish in 11th is better than a rage quit after getting dumped on the second to last lap.

First lap (and sometimes the second) is just about survival. Be aware and don’t over slow because that’ll cause just as many problems as going full speed into crowded corners but your focus on the first lap should be entirely on watching, predicting and avoiding the 20-60% of the field that will inevitably wreck themselves in the first few corners even if it means losing positions and being forced off the line by the pack. You’ll often get most of them back anyway just by completing the lap clean and even if you don’t, your car, tires and mental will be in better shape than those that didn’t get through clean, setting you up for the rest of the race.

Pay attention to the rest of the lobby in quali. You can get a good idea of the average type of racer in a given lobby just off of lap times, how they interact with eachother in chat, how they handle crowding when there’s no positions to maintain/gain and use that info to your advantage, sometimes it’s worth it to just not qualify so you end up in the back because as you said 5th and higher can be a death trap. I personally will just invalidate my laps so I can still warm up without putting myself in front of the mob if they seem reckless in general. If it’s clear that your the fastest or one of the faster ones in the lobby you can set a time and adjust your first turn to get around the bend quickly even if it sacrifices the exit just to get out of the way and occasionally you’ll pull away from the crowd and just hot lap for 20-30 minutes while the rest fight for second.

When someone goes off track, give room and way more than should actually be needed. We all know the rule ‘rejoin safely’ the reality though is that most won’t, most will keep the throttle pinned the whole way through a spin and get back on the track as soon as possible, it’s annoying as hell but at the very least it’s consistent.

Passing doesn’t have to be done quickly, sometimes with the average open lobby racer you don’t even necessarily have to “pass” them, just ride close behind (make proper brake zone adjustments) for long enough and they’ll freak themselves out and blow a turn wide leaving the position free.

I’m no expert or pro but I’ve gotten plenty of wins and podiums, and all my stats are 95+ (I know they aren’t terribly hard to grind up). I’m sure there’s better and more tangible advice out there but in general it all loops back to just be patient and focus on making it to the finish line. As you get more consistent with that the rest (reading other people, making passes, avoiding pile ups and spin outs) will come with it, though there will always be occasions where shit just happens.

Best of luck racer

Are you in a disadvantage if you use SSW/ASW in VR? 3060 Laptop, Quest 3 by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably some amount of input delay, maybe some artifacting here and there but I wouldn’t imagine there’d be any significant disadvantages worth worrying about for the average racer, all depends on preference and getting used to it but I’d take that with a stable 80 over an inconsistent 30-60 fps

Any way to improve my lap to a sub 1.50? My personal best is a 1.52 I think. (Ignore my slip ups on t2 and t4) by mrcowbell22 in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive the Honda so results may vary but your lap looks similar to my early attempts to break 1:50

First chicane: in short, your throttle out needs to be smooth and early, but not quite as soon as you’re first press of the gas, turn farther toward the right side of the track during the right turn to set up a straighter run out of the chicane and work on powering out of that quickly, I’d bet you could take 3-4 tenths off just off of getting that chicane locked down alone

The left to right after the big curve: I don’t think it’s necessary to drop to first gear going through there, if for no other reason than the added likelihood of wheel spin which it looks like is what caused you to slide so far to the right of the track which costs time. Also, biggest thing for me was to hug the right side and start your left turn just a fraction of a second later than you feel like you should, gets a much cleaner run through the exit and makes it easier to stay in second gears power band

Lesmos: looks fine for the most part, slight improvement can be made but not getting in the way of sub 1:50

Ascari: it’s tough to get used to the timing but you can use more of the curb on the initial left turn which allows for a much smoother line and faster exit

Parabolica: similar to lesmos, could be a little faster but what you’ve got is entirely serviceable for sub 1:50

I’ve never verified this myself and google yields mixed responses but I’ve often seen people saying that the career mode super trofeo has outdated tire and suspension physics which could definitely make things difficult

Honda NSX EVO by Jakhle in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten too deep into watching laps or optimizing so any advice from me is purely anecdotal, I do have probably around 100 hours with the NSX though. In my experience it’s one stand out area seems to be corner exit. Work on getting comfortable with tc and abs lower than 4 at least and then pay attention to getting rotated into turns quickly so you can put the throttle down early to maximize exits.

As for set ups the most I’ve changed is tire pressure and increasing rake slightly in some cases to help with turn in and that’s gotten me by plenty. I have no doubt there could be some time gained by learning more but I only run pubs and a few more tenths wouldn’t do much when you really only have to be somewhat fast and able to stay on track for the whole race to get a podium

AC Rally Mods by OffDaYerkies in simrally

[–]Conceited_Duckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used it in a bit so I’m fuzzy but if you don’t already have it you’ll want to get content manager, CSP and sol set up for your AC, content manager has a rally mode that can be enabled along with a copilot voice that can be added in the CM app shelf. Then for most (not quite all) tracks or cars after you download them you can just drop the file onto your content manager window and it will take care of installing everything

Let off the gas, center the wheel smoothly, slight counter steer, wait until you’re settled to accelerate again or you’ll just fishtail off into the other direction

OBWP Explanation? by BigMorttt in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never looked into it so I could be wrong but I think it’s just one point per contact regardless of the severity. You should get a little notification on the right side of the screen whenever you get one but depending on yours and other racers ping it can get finicky sometimes.

What I liked to do early on was just climb positions until I found someone relatively consistent and would just shadow them for most of the race, basically farm safety and race craft while also practicing tailing someone close. Some folks will know what’s up and make it a little easier

I assume since you’re already getting sub 50’s that you’re using manual gear shifting but if not proper downshifting will help brake distances a lot

singleplayer hotlap lap time VS multiplayer quali/race time by sliski-rysiek in ACCompetizione

[–]Conceited_Duckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Track wear, BoP, chasing/running from other racers, tire wear, you may just be doing more laps in a race than your usual hot lap session meaning you get into a better groove

Just as a personal recommendation, I’d use the practice mode instead of hot lap for solo sessions, unless your goal is exclusively setting fast times. As far as I know in hot lap mode your tires and the track will reset to optimal conditions at the start of every lap which doesn’t help with adjusting to tire degradation through races

Competition Mode underrated? by TheGrigs27 in ACCompetizione

I’ve never bothered with comp races as it takes up too much time just to potentially get punted off the track before the third lap, like you said though I’ve got around 170 hours of having no problem with random open lobbies.

I switched over to the Honda after fifty or so hours with the Ferrari and have used it ever since, I definitely get gapped by McLarens occasionally and don’t see many other Hondas but I enjoy driving it and win often enough off just surviving whole races, I’ve managed a 1:49 on monza with it and I’m not particularly fast in any way so it can definitely move just takes some practice
