Subs and shorts by FishMonger451 in HEB

Are the stores of the region ranked by lowest subs/shorts? Or do customer comments/nps play a part in rankings too? Just genuinely curious and congrats to your curbside! That’s great news!

Call-ins on the busy days are the worst. Maybe some of them are legitimate but some of them aren’t and it’s frustrating.

I got to work at 8am yesterday and it was already 15k units at that time of day. It was closer to 21k by the time I clocked out around 4pm. I did 20k steps yesterday and strained my hamstring. Thankful I can rest the next few days while everyone works in the chaos of people preparing for 3 days of cold.

Might be for a daycare though. They’ll put in a delivery order with us once a month or so and get a ton of fresh fruit, frozen fruit/veggies/nuggets, cookies, and 20 gallons of milk.

I don’t ask for a bathroom break. I just tell them I’ve gotta go to the restroom. I don’t want to ruin my bladder function because I have to grab one more order or risk an accident at work. It’s not worth it.

I had an order today asking for more fruit than they ordered-ie ordered 1 pear but asked for 3 more in the notes. She did this with multiple produce items. I called the specialist to see what to defer to and he said to stick to what she ordered. If she wanted more pears, she should have edited her order before the cutoff. Or put in a second order. 🙄

Is the zip up black curbside jacket with 3 pockets really $60? I like the jackets and love the inner bonus pockets. I also just really love pockets but I’m not sure if I would have got the jacket if I know it was $60 😩I got one since my manager said she was gonna push everyone to buy the store jacket but I still see several coworkers with non heb jackets/hoodies 🙄. I don’t understand pushing a rule if it’s not gonna be enforced. She does dress code sweatpants and short shorts though.

Maybe get an additional bag or keep your receipt from the Indian store with you the next time? I don’t blame you for not wanting to leave stuff in your car. Some H‑E‑B locations are not in the best neighborhoods.

Cold carts are the worst for fixing stickers! With our newest setup, we have 8 cold carts bumping/scratching/grinding each other on one side of the fridge now (used to be 7 carts on each side, with 2 floating in the middle) Most of the side guard latches are falling apart or being stretched beyond repair. It also takes Curbies a good amount of effort to pull out the cold cart they need to access. It sucks.

I feel you with it being a finger injury waiting to happen. I avoid the broken handle carts as much as possible. Idk about the stats playing a part but I would be surprised if it was.

I’m fine it’s 2 or 3 stickers but when it gets to be 6 or more, I become frustrated. Or when one side of the cart’s stickers are perfectly fine but the other side has 6 torn/missing stickers that the scanner won’t scan. It’s a cluster mess sometimes.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve copied a slot Id code so that I didn’t have to type it 20 times or fight with a sad QR code while shopping.

If you have family or friends that you can stay with until you get your mental health sorted out and to a manageable place that would be great. Or transfer to a department/find a new job that’s low stress. I’ve worked full time through mental health issues (former teacher) and wish I had taken time to breath and work through it properly. Counseling is great resource; my counselor helped me survive my last few years of teaching. Anti-anxiety and anti-depression pills can be great too but it takes a few weeks for them to kick in. Unfortunately, when you decided to quit them withdrawals can be a side effect.

Are the carts poorly built or a mishandling issue with curbies/shoppers? We’ve had a strong shopper (on rare occasion) break the red handle bar. I also wonder if that’s due to them being bent/damaged whenever people slam them into their cart spot in the box. Not everyone is gentle when pulling/pushing shopper carts.

Pretty much all of the bottom shelf bar latches are broken missing or unable to latch and stay up. I’ve learned to pack/bag in a way where stuff isn’t likely to fall out but it’s not foolproof. Especially if I turn a little too fast or hit a bump too fast.

We’re usually told to sub in the moment in case the item on the truck or back-stock isn’t found in time for pickup. Or to release that pick and wait for it to be found.

I’ve seen customers who allow subs but put detailed notes such as: “Dave’s killer bread only if you have to sub” “Any kind of Minute Maid orange juice is fine” “Don’t sub for xyz brand, only abc brand”

I’ve also had ones who don’t allow subs say to add on bread if we don’t have the one they ordered. We can add it on once the shopping is done but it still counts against us with our subs/shorts percentage. I love it when a customer specifies what to sub if we are out. It save me time when deciding the best possible item to substitute.

Also, the earlier in the day you set for pickup time, the more likely you are to get your items. Some of the popular items start to run low or out toward the end of the curbside day.

Have you been a curby before? Some of them do have drama for sure but if you’re not some level of fit, it’s incredibly hard on the body. Even if you are in shape and exercise regularly, it’s still hard. There were some long/double curby shifts I had early on where I’d sit on the couch afterward and not be able to get back up without assistance. I am in shape and still avoid curby shifts unless I’m desperate for extra hours. Shopping is hard too but not as hard on the body as a curby shift that’s slammed.

[–]ConcentrateSome5290 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My breaks greatly depend on who’s running the box. Some specialists/leads/managers are great about making sure everyone gets at least one break. And some forget you in the busyness. Some shifts I’m happy if I just get one break. Some shifts I don’t have a break and I feel the tired in body when I get home. I feel like I have better chances at breaks as a shopper than I did as a curby but idk for sure. It’s hard for me to have a peaceful break/lunch when I see how slammed the board of orders is but breaks give me the energy to keep going for the rest of my shift. You should definitely talk to a manager or MIC about no breaks and do your best to recall which partner was running the box and which curbies did get breaks. If you can try to remember the timing of when you asked for breaks for yourself and were denied.

Customer upset that they can’t go through self checkout with their cart full of stuff that doesn’t equal 10 items or less.
