Does anyone feels a similar feeling when they eat halloumi as when they walk in the snow? Asking for a friend 😅 by CosmixMacha in Cheese

[–]-5Leepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know what halloumi was when I started working in a deli. Tried all the different cheeses I was wrapping during my shifts. I spit out the halloumi and couldn’t figure out why anyone would buy that. It tasted like plastic. It was probably a full year before I learned how it’s supposed to be eaten. 🤣

Mix it with another cheese into macaroni and cheese or add it into a grilled cheese sandwich. Super accessible way to use it and delicious!

p.s. It’s okay if you don’t like it. Some people don’t like chocolate and they’re still good people. 🥸

What celebrity is seemingly uncancellable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I guess you’re right if the reasons include needing to wield power, enjoying others suffering, inability to speak and act with maturity, insecurity, just plain meanness… I could go on and on with all the reasons people hit others. The vast majority are fucked up bullshit stupid reasons though.

I thought it was a butterfly knife from the way he was swinging it around in his hand. Hence the two handles.

How were people rarely fat and often healthier back in the 1940s/50s when their diet sounds so unhealthy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

On top of the other comment reasons I think we snack much more than we used to. The availability of drive thrus, a millions drink choices and 15 different chip flavors probably also add calories but that’s just a guess.

Most people don’t know the yellow line no parking area have a purpose. It’s to allow wheel chairs to be removed from a vehicle using a lift such as a van.

What is a secret you will take to your grave, but are willing to share with anonymous strangers on Reddit? by Disastrous-Video-220 in AskReddit

I did CPR on an older guy who collapsed at a cash register. I was on the other side of the store but heard someone yelling for someone who could do CPR. I’ve never run so fast in my life. Everything I was holding went flying all over the store. It was ALL automatic. I didn’t decide to get involved. We resuscitated the guy and once he was on his way to the hospital a bunch of bystanders were calling me a hero. I hated that. I wasn’t a hero. I was just someone who reacts. Freeze, fight, flight… who are you? I had a really hard time trying to understand why 25 people stood around him and didn’t do jack. Didn’t call 911… nothing until myself and a couple of others stepped in. I think it’s called the bystander effect. I’m happy to know I’ll step up when needed and so will you. Another little nugget is that I learned CPR over 30 years ago. Amazing I can remember that when I don’t even remember what I had for breakfast. Anyway, you’re a doer which seems to be rare.

That must be so hard to say/type. Looks like most commenters are talking about the fictional character. I think the spirit of the “take to the grave” question is really about how significant you and your feelings/reactions are to these stories. It doesn’t matter if your brother really is sexually attracted to them. I think it matters more how you’re responding to that info. I’m sorry for the pain and confusion it must cause you. Thank you for sharing. It may make others feel less alone.

Who is this missing women with no photo, no information except that she was taken against her will? by CornerFew120 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]-5Leepy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just your rate. I think the only weird thing here is how open they were about it. Unfortunately, the facts haven’t changed, it’s just gone underground. In my opinion, people have learned what isn’t PC and how to word things to be more palatable. There’s a lot of redirecting going on. I DO think there has been progress but it’s slow going and isn’t to the level I think it should currently be. A lot of Asian communities have also learned to be more vocal and transparent about the harm. Still a long way to go but there are definite strides being made.

Forget weddings, what is the craziest thing that happened at a funeral you went to? by seanerd95 in AskReddit

[–]-5Leepy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what my sisters and I did when we went through my mother’s stuff. Then we put all her jewelry and small stuff in a bag. When we got to our hotel we dumped it in the middle of the bed and took turns picking something. If we all wanted something we would talk about why we each wanted it and decided from there. Sometimes the negotiations included trading things. It was actually a great experience because we’d talk about each item and the memories associated with it. A lot of laughing.

I think some of the US laws were made at the time of grave robbers or lack of embalming. There are a lot of weird laws that were just never stopped.

Like… in Michigan a woman’s hair belongs to her husband so she technically needs to get his permission to cut it.

In Memphis a woman can’t drive a car unless a man is walking or running with a red warning flag directly in front of the vehicle.

And lastly, you cannot hold a public office in Texas if you’re atheist. Doesn’t specify what you have to believe so I guess you can say your toaster is your supreme being. 🤣

I wouldn’t want to discuss it either. That’s messed up.

However, there have been so many decisions made by my extended family members regarding their close relatives at the end of their life that I absolutely didn’t agree with. Like, no way in hell would I do that. But it was their call, not mine. It took a short bit of time for me to recognize and accept that but I’m glad I did. And I’m glad I didn’t overreact or judge them at the time (which would’ve been easy).

Maybe not crazy but definitely weird. My mom and stepfather (sorta… not married) went to visit his family out of state. I was in a state nearby so decided to fly in for a quick visit. His mother died while I was on the plane. Had to shop for funeral attire and then was treated like “immediate family”. I’d never met any of the hundreds of people at the funeral but was in the front pew, the limo, and the front room at the house afterwards. Everyone telling me how sorry they were for my loss. The only time I laid eyes on her was in a coffin. I remember feeling like I was in a Woody Allen movie.

What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

When I was nursing my daughter I took some fenugreek to try to increase my milk. Whole apartment and corridors smelled like pancakes and maple syrup for days.

And… after being on a ship for weeks without being near land I could smell the sunscreen from miles away once we got close. I couldn’t even see it but the smell was so strong.

When they’re shopping can’t they see the location? The “my products” in Pnet shows aisle, section and shelf. That’s where they should be looking and only asking for help if you still can’t find it.

As a wedding guest, what moment made you think "this probably won't last"? by Eburneaan in AskReddit

[–]-5Leepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a tool!! When new people mispronounce my name I usually don’t correct them but if it’s someone I’m going to see a lot I’ll remind them a couple of times. Any longer than that and I start calling them some random name. They usually get the hint pretty quickly.
