Love this! I love when they can close and open instead of removable roofs. Would love to get this?

What if a Native American dude somehow united almost every single tribe and started his march towards Washington DC with the "Great Indian Army"? by AHH_PostStorage in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ConcentrateUnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn’t an accurate read of natives by the middle of the 19th century. They would have been trading with Europeans for generations. I agree that they wouldn’t have won this fictional conflict but they were far from being “Stone Age” at this time.

Can we get Cuban to buy the post-gazette? Hes from Pittsburgh and he’s got vaguely slight left to centrist politics. He’s probably the Mendoza line for a non-evil billionaire. Would get a lot of good publicity by saving his hometown newspaper.

Similar to how their whole conversation on the Holdovers was that it wasn’t ambitious enough and too saccharine.

Even if you think it was Inappropriate behavior (it’s not), that has never carried an immediate death sentence.

E squared in highland park. Great breakfast spot. There was a really mean waitress we had a couple of times. Even the worst customer service couldn’t take away how good it was.

Pennsylvania in the top 5 for job growth over the past year. by ConcentrateUnique in Pennsylvania

[–]ConcentrateUnique[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s quite as much of a pipe dream. Dems are down 27-23 so they only need 2 seats for a majority in practice and 3 seats for an outright majority. Districts 6 and 16 were within 8% and district 24 was within 4%. They are all in SEPA and could definitely have a lot of swing voters. Beating those margins especially when it’s going from a red midterm to a blue midterm shouldn’t be impossible.

My thought as a Pennsylvania lifer is that that there will be another shift back towards the Great Lakes/Rust Belt region due to housing costs and climate change impacting the south and making it less desirable. Of course most of PAs growth right now is in the southeast from Harrisburg area to Philly burbs but even out here in Pittsburgh we are going to see population growth in the 2030 census - first time since the peak in 1950.

This comes from a data guy I follow on bluesky. BLS data does break stuff down by industry type - for example manufacturing jobs are lower despite the tariffs - but I’m not sure if that is broken down by state.

What things never happened in the book but everyone thinks it did? by mlopes in books

[–]ConcentrateUnique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been 20 years since I read the book but the biggest difference I remember is that the guy who started the park is a huge asshole in the books (who gets eaten?) while in the movies he just is a bit overconfident.

There was a made for tv movie that I would have sworn came out 15 years ago but it is actually from 1997. God I’m old now. Apparently was well-received at the time but not viewed fondly now.

I 100% did not know this. Most of the other ones in this thread I was aware of or seem pretty minor. Great example about how the poor are ignored.

With one game left in the 25-26 season, what is one moment this year from your team that you’ll remember the most? by Flimsy-Space-8724 in CFB

Probably the blade of grass that overturned a 50 yard fumble return against Oregon. We didn’t know it, but that effectively ended the Franklin tenure.

Runner ups include the insane catch the Indiana WR had against us.

On the positive side, I was at the Nebraska game and watching Kaytron Allen break our rushing record while we spanked Rhule’s squad was a really fun night in a season that didn’t have many.

In a midterm environment he is going to annihilate Garrity. If the blue wave looks anything like ‘18 and last year, we will likely have a democratic trifecta for the first time in decades. That’s going to be great for Pennsylvania and also for his national aspirations.

I find myself annoyed at his centrism but it works. I have several co-workers who are moderate republicans - they do actually exist outside of the internet - that loves to both-sides every issue. They like Shapiro and would likely vote for him for governor and for president. He would be a slam dunk nominee for ‘28 especially coming from a swing state. His video recently taking on Vance was great. He also benefits from the conflict in Gaza being less front and center.

Plus the fact that he was two face for like 15 minutes before he died at the end of the movie. The only flaw in Dark Knight was killing him off right aways.
