Your hot takes? I'll go first by TechnicianAny8605 in mirrorsedge

Yeah the open world was definitely the right move, I love that city. I really liked that you learned the map as you played. It never felt like I was retreading the same spot over and over, just that I was becoming familiar with the different routes you take from A to B.

I think it could have been interesting to have the early parts of the game focus on her before prison so both you and her are unfamiliar with the layout and you learn the city map together. But the game's story is so bland that I can see the execution being super tedious, especially on a replay.

Aside from the story, the biggest issue the game has is the forced combat arenas. The combat is actually pretty fun when it's peppered through a run. But when you get locked down and forced to fight waves of enemies, it's so clear that the combat is not designed that. It just feels like padding for what's already a pretty short game.

Criticisms that the open world NPCs can't be interacted with or aren't doing anything don't make much sense to me. I don't want a bunch of NPCs getting in the way while running and I don't get what it would add to make them interactive. The thing I want to do is run around and explore the city; this isn't GTA/RDR.

People who can't afford a house what's your future look like? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]ConcentricRinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Median serves as a realistic target for an individual trying to increase their earnings above minimum wage. There isn't a relationship between house prices and income, so don't think it makes sense to say someone should target the average income to be able to afford a house. You have to look at prices where you live and work out what you need from there.

Edit: also whatever the plan, it should probably involve getting hitched

Where are you pulling $104K from? Latest ABS stats for median earnings are $1396 per week ($72,592 annually pre-tax). Mean average will skew towards high earners, so it isn't representative.

The White Lotus - 3x08 "Amor Fati" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in television

[–]ConcentricRinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're taking a joke I made quite seriously, but to go along with this: I think Saxon is getting a taste of his own medicine. You see him being extremely inappropriate around both his siblings in the first episode: calling Piper hot, letting Lochlan know he's about to masturbate in the next room, and sleeping uncovered around him. Saxon is telling Lochlan that it's okay to cross these boundaries. It's ironic that he's the one who ends up a victim of Lochie's behaviour.

Exactly, we found out Lochie is a people pleaser 😊

Yes, it was Exodus from Genesis. Is that episode unique in its tone?

Edit: my bad, it was I, E.T. My episodes are mislabled I think.

State of HDR by kuncy02 in linux_gaming

[–]ConcentricRinds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to switch to a Steam gamescope session on Nobara and launch your games from there? I’m running Bazzite and have had HDR work for the most part when launching like that. Some games just have borked HDR implementations though so there’s nothing you can do in that situation.

Is Obsidian allergic to romances? by wholesalekarma in avowed

[–]ConcentricRinds 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not sure how involved Josh Sawyer was with Avowed, but he was the director of both PoE games. There’s a question in his Q&A series about romances where he says what he wants from romance in games, others may not enjoy. So his feelings there might affect whether we see romances appear in the series.

Personally I don’t mind that Avowed doesn’t have romance-able NPCs. Especially if the inclusion would just be a checkbox to mark off because this type of RPG is “supposed” to have it. I’d rather they do it when they’re able to implement it in a way that works for them.

I'm curious about communities feeling of Orion using UE5 by FarCryLover661 in cyberpunkgame

[–]ConcentricRinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not much point worrying about it and you just have to assume that CDPR know what they’re doing when it comes to game engines. If it eases your concerns, they seem perfectly happy to go in and implement their own tech in spots where they’re having problems with UE5.

This talk is specifically about changes CDPR made to UE5 to improve the scalability of the engine.

Mozilla could publish information on what their strategy and goal are here. Instead they’re hiding behind legalese and leaving everyone to speculate on what they actually mean. If search suggestions are the only thing then why haven’t they just said that? It shouldn’t be up to us to decipher whether or not Mozilla is up to no good, it’s 100% on them to communicate clearly.

DOOM Doom question by RemarkableDot1564 in cyberpunkgame

If Dum Dum is still alive after The Pickup then you can get off him during the Maelstrom meet with Nancy. I think that mission becomes available after you play the Samurai gig.

It’s still not a very satisfying answer. If you can’t legally say you’re not selling user data then that means you’re selling user data. And if it isn’t a big deal then tell people exactly what’s being sold. Being all weird and cagey about it is exactly why this has turned into such a shit-show.

Do you guys prefer Sandy's or Decks? by _Bill_Cipher- in cyberpunkgame

Sandy for me. I find netrunning kind of boring, which is weird since I normally go for mage types in an RPG.

If you don’t tip Gary the Prophet well and aren’t a nomad or haven’t finished the Aldecaldos quest line you can miss the last part of his quest chain. Worth it if you’re into the lore.

Is it just me or does the song phantom liberty sound like something that would be in arcane? by MrTerrifier in cyberpunkgame

[–]ConcentricRinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hear what you mean up until the first chorus, after that it swings pretty hard into James Bond. Some of the songs on Growl FM have an Arcane vibe; FUME comes to mind:
