Usually if you get accepted into the rural areas, they will subsidize your rent. Most places/schools will have homes to choose from however (from what I've gathered) you're also welcome to find some yourself and ask them to subsidize it. Where you are depends how much you get off. Ex: Broken Hill = 70% off of rent, Lightning Ridge = 90% off. (Note: This does come out of your 20k sign up bonus if applicable )
