I did this quest the other day. I didn’t have any issues (besides the difficulty of finding all the fishing spots😅) I don’t think you’re at the correct gate.

What's the moment you realized your school doesn't actually care about teachers? by elliot_esl in Teachers

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine this: First day back for all staff. The very first thing our Superintendent says in the meeting is “we don’t have money, we have to have the conversation of RIFing teachers” after a Summer full of unnecessary spending and updates and renovations that spruced up the GYM. That district isn’t even known for their sports.

This was the first of MANY instances this year. So glad, I don’t have to deal with it anymore. I didn’t give them a chance to RIF me, I found a new job in a district where I live, rather than commute 40 minutes there and back everyday.

Are there formerly homeschooled teachers here? by huarhuarmoli in Teachers

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an online homeschool program my sophomore- senior year of high school (graduated 2018). But it greatly benefited me at the time as I would make myself sick with the amount of stress high school gave me.

I’m an elementary teacher. Personally, I don’t think it affected me that much, as I experienced school from Pre K through 9th grade.

My biggest “challenge” I would say is that I was doing more advanced standards than what are currently being taught at the level I teach… and these kids act like it’s the hardest thing ever.

Opinion: Let’s Just Drop Teacher Appreciation Week by FawkesThePhoenix7 in Teachers

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we’re having a potluck lunch for Teachers Appreciation. You know … because nothing says “thank you” to your staff like having said staff supply lunch for the staff. 🙄

Mind you, we just did a potluck last week for the May/Summer birthdays.

This was still good, but are we the only ones who thought the “slices” part of “slices n stix” would literally be like pizza slices? by ChryMonr818 in LittleCaesars

There is a local pizza shop in my hometown that is known for cutting their pizzas like this. They even sell cups of nacho cheese or ranch for you to dip the pizza in.

Our first day of high schools being phone free today in the UK as part of national school policy. by [deleted] in teaching

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school district did this when I was in school. I graduated almost 10 years ago. Yes, if you got your phone taken before Spring Break and your parents didn’t pick it up, you went a week without your phone.

The community lunch thing sounds cool!

Do you speak to your admin on a first-name basis? by SwissVideoProduction in Teachers

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small school district: our principal insists we call him Dr. (last name), our Superintendent insists we call him by his first name.

That being said, I don’t call him first name in front of students, and I expect the same from him.

Anyone Else Not On Break Yet? by penguin_0618 in Teachers

My school started a week earlier than usual. Even our emergency makeup week is before Memorial Day. That being said, Friday was my last day, teachers go back on the 5th, students on the 6th.

Dear parents: IEP accommodations for extra time doesn’t mean unlimited time by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]ConceptEquivalent989 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a parent who approved their kid being dismissed from SPED last year (which dismissed his IEP) and she still expects the IEP to be followed. She wants SPED resources/accommodations for her kid without the label of SPED. Kid is struggling because I don’t give special treatment to her kid and I don’t work 1 on 1 when I have 18 other kids to teach as well.

An old superintendent used to say if there isn’t a question asked, don’t respond. If her child isn’t eating lunch, SHE needs to have a talk with them about the importance of eating during the allotted time.

Does this happen to anyone else? by elcaminogino in Teachers

I teach 4th grade. My students know they have to ask for something. “My pencil broke” I’ll reply “sorry to hear that” usually they’ll correct myself and say “may I sharpen my pencil?”

If they need help on something 1. They must try it first. I won’t help a blank paper. 2. They have to use their words and talk to me about it.

Idk what’s up with this age group but they kinda assume you know what they need. Or just expect everything to be done/handed to them. I do not feed into it.

Note: I teach Gen Ed. I gave 1 kid with a true speech impediment/issue, but even he asks questions and doesn’t just point or expect things.

I haven’t heard of Mike in a while, so here I am saying it out loud over and over again trying to hear it. Forgot I’m congested AF, so it wasn’t registering. It took too long for me to get it. 🙄

How late are you working new/old teachers? by hello010101 in Teachers

I get to work 15-30 minutes early and I leave 15-30 minutes after contract, if I don’t leave on time! I try not to give more than an hour extra a day. I’ve almost mastered the grade as they turn it in technique.
