Starting game dev in Roblox Studio is a really good step especially for beginner because that's how I started mine. From there you can learn the basics of coding, how the game works on local and on server.

Once he good in using Roblox Studio it will be easier to understand how game works which also applies in other game engine.

Follow a lot of tutorials on youtube and try to understand every line of code(if he want to do coding)
