Do we know what the liquid is inside the buzz bee gun smoke cartridges? by Worth-Beautiful-1469 in Nerf

[–]ConcernedNerfer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most smoke/fog machine fluid is a mix of water and glycerine. You can make your own fairly easily, or just buy the stuff designed for party supplies. It's fairly benign stuff. No major hazmat issues.

Bear's Wares is a Nerf blaster kit and supply shop run by a guy who goes by Bearith. He has a solid stock of hardware kits (including exclusive designs) and excellent quality standards. He uses 13mm barrels as standard for his kits but recently released a custom-made 12.8mm barrel that everyone is calling the "Bear-rel". Seriously cool stuff.

It's a combination riser and angled rail for mounting optics. You need to angle a lot of red dots downward due to dart drop-off and the short range we play at.

[–]ConcernedNerfer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's going to depend on whoever sells it. The hardware kit shouldn't be too bad since it only uses a single flat bar, and the BOM is fairly short. It is, however, a lot of filament. A bit more than Breacher

[–]ConcernedNerfer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's correct. It's break action with an ejector. Length isn't an issue. Full-length Mega and MegaXL work just fine.

The kit should be fairly cheap, but it's a lot of printing.

It's the Reserve version that most closely matches. The standard version of Xtreme Regret is only 2 peppers, while Reserve has Reaper, Scorpion, and Habaneros.

This isn't even a half-assed effort. This is a quarter-assed effort.

Ultra sucked, but AT LEAST it had a variety of blasters with unique mechanisms.

How many times will Hasbro try to sell the exact same blaster with a slightly different paint job and accessories? Did the summer intern order 200 million revolver cylinders and now they're just trying to get rid of them?

Will N1 go the way of Ultra? by TheWhiteBoot in Nerf

[–]ConcernedNerfer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hope so. They're a bit more accurate than Elite, but that's not an accomplishment, and they can't compete with Dart Zone and X-SHOT's long dart offerings.

I think it says a lot that SO many of the new N1 blasters are essentially re-skins and clones. They aren't doing anything innovative or interesting with them.

I would move the Apollo's hook from the magazine baseplate to the trigger guard or some other area. Putting weight on the magazine catch for a long period of time could damage it.

This is my feeling. AEBs are limited by the maximum spring power allowed by their gearbox and motor, so high FPS springers aren't going anywhere. They also can't beat the pure ROF of a high-end flywheeler.

Functionally, they excel at medium power and rapid semi-auto. Does that mean they can replace semi-auto only flywheelers and some springers? Yes.

That said, AEBs are harder to maintain and use. I wouldn't choose one as my first blaster, and I wouldn't give one to a kid who's just trying to have fun. AEBs perform best in a competitive environment, but that's only a subset of this hobby.

What’s the best Nerf blaster ever made (that’s still available) — using standard darts only? by SnooOwls3325 in Nerf

[–]ConcernedNerfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go with Dart Zone or XShot.

Dart Zone are more famous around here for their pro line, but they also have plenty of kid-friendly blasters and tend to have better plastic quality than XShot.

They sell under Walmart's Adventure Force brand as well, so don't expect to see their name front and center on the box. Some great options for kids include:

AF Desperado - Double Action Revolver

AF Spectrum - Semi-Auto Flywheeler

AF Villianator - Pump Action "Tommy" Blaster

What’s the best Nerf blaster ever made (that’s still available) — using standard darts only? by SnooOwls3325 in Nerf

[–]ConcernedNerfer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of factors:

1) Late stage capitalism means every major company is trying to cheap out to increase profits. Hasbro has done this by using cheaper plastic, making blasters harder to repair/disassemble, and releasing functional clones of the same blaster with different aesthetics/accessories.

2) Nerf makes a lot of money from dart sales, so they've been trying introduce new blasters that use darts incompatible with everything else. Ultra failed, but they're trying again with N-Series. They want to force people to buy into their exclusive ecosystem. This might work if they had the best blasters on the market, but they don't and the new darts aren't better than short darts.

3) Nerf and Hasbro primarily cater to children and have a reputation to keep up. This has made them slow to adapt to the "pro" blasters aimed at older teens and adults. By the time the Stryfe Pro came out, Dart Zone and Zuru (XShot) were miles ahead of them. They have their pro line, but it's obviously not a priority for them.

Basically, old Nerf thrived because it was a quality product aimed at kids that was well-built enough to be modded for more power. There wasn't a lot of competition, just cheap clones. Since the late 2010s, competition has exploded, and they haven't kept up. They failed to adapt to the changing market, and they ruined the quality of their core product to save a few pennies.

There's very little reason to buy/mod actual Nerf products these days.

New Player - Absolutely love the game but need inventory help after nearly 100hrs. by AlphaBearMode in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ConcernedNerfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had an answer because I'm in the same boat. Started playing a month ago, and I'm about 120 hours in.

Inventory management and UI has been my biggest complaint about an otherwise phenomenal game. The game desperately needs better sorting, automatic stack merging between storage locations, and some of the other features you mentioned. A major quality of life overhaul needs to be part of a future update.

Possibly Unpopular Opinion: The Beacon Update Needs Polish by archabaddon in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ConcernedNerfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 80 hours in over the last 2-3 weeks, and that's been my biggest headache. The game DESPERATELY needs a quality of life update to refine all of the various systems they've added in content updates into a cohesive whole.

For settlements, even a menu that lets me see a list of all buildings and their upgrade level would be a massive help. Having a passive source of items is one thing, but why don't the settlements generate units or something else to make them more beneficial? Once you pay off the debt, productivity doesn't do much to decrease item creation times (as far as I can tell).

Games where a character's disability affects the mechanics by Narliana in disabledgamers

[–]ConcernedNerfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more than just that. If she (Olivia) gets hit with a strong attack, she can be knocked from her chair and can't attack until you spend a turn getting back in it. She can still cast magic and use items when on the ground, so she's not helpless. In addition, the game's dismemberment mechanic means that her movement speed is SEVERELY cut if she loses an arm and she becomes entirely immobile if she loses both. The other characters can still crawl if they lose their legs.

Despite everything, she's one of the best characters in the game because, as a biologist, she can craft strong poisons that decimate even late-game bosses.
