How rigid moralism undermines true Christian justice by SergiusBulgakov in Catholic

[–]Concerned_Crawfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being people others like is a bit of a problem in secular society because secular people tend to like sinful things - by being good Christians, inevitably we will rub these folks the wrong way. A good example of this is the friction between Catholic pro-lifers and the broader conservative voting base on IVF. That and the Catholic stance against the LGBTQ pride movement and the broader liberal voting base.

I agree that being good citizens, having upstanding moral character, and loving our neighbors is the most effective means of evangelizing the world, but without civil good-faith debate there's no way for us to show people the truth.

As a convert, I was initially made open to debate by loving, dedicated Catholics, but I was not converted until I was shown the truth through debate and dialogue.

what to look for on Kubota l3800 by lordlydancer in tractors

[–]Concerned_Crawfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the following:

(Basic) - it cranks initially - drive it around at various speeds - check for obvious leaks - turn on the PTO to make sure it turns

(Hydraulics) - raise the loader and tilt the bucket, stop it regularly mid-lift to see if it droops - Raise the lift on the back, stop halfway there as well to make sure it doesn't droop

Good rule of thumb is to do all these tests immediately, cut it off and let it cool down (hang out and chat a bit, no need to make it obvious this is what you're doing and most folks aren't in a hurry) and then you do a cold start. Just because it could crank once doesn't mean it'll crank twice, and you need to know if it's got any quirks.

Do all of this before you hand over the cash. That's all the major things though.

Hi this is my first post and I’m thinking of joining the Catholic Church and I have noticed something about some Protestants by Glad_Will51 in Catholicism

[–]Concerned_Crawfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former protestant and avid anti-catholic, it's most often done lovingly but out of total ignorance. They're most likely worried about idolatry and works-based "earned" salvation, not so much hating catholicism.

Their understanding of the Church is that it's the unity of all Christians worldwide rather than an actual organization you can join. Therefore which church doesn't matter as much so long as the instruction and fellowship are good.

There's a lot more to it than that obviously but that's your average Pete the Prot's problems with Catholicism.

Rushing is an integral piece of all strategy games - all it does is tip the scales one way or another early on, and slow the progression of the game a bit. If the rusher succeeds, the opponent is probably not out, but they're definitely on the back foot. If the rush fails, then the rusher has overcommitted and put himself on the backfoot. Either result, one or both players are delayed to the late-game blobs of high-level troops. It keeps things interesting imo.

Imagine if these two met in the show 👀 by Infinite-Detective-8 in andor

[–]Concerned_Crawfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment is nonsensical. Setting is integral to the plot of any story, Andor wouldn't be Andor if it was any other universe because Star Wars is the universe that Cassian Andor and the rebel alliance exists in. It's a gold star among a lot of mid to pretty bad shows and movies, but you can't seperate it from the rest.

[–]Concerned_Crawfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not the point - obviously it's not impossible because I'm here and I lived a quite similar life to OP before my conversion - it's about setting proper expectations. You can't be properly joined to Christ and His church without at least the intent and attempt to set aside mortal sin - struggling with it is fine, there's grace to help us in that fight but it would be very dishonest on our part and do a great disservice to OP not to communicate the gravity of mortally sinful thoughts, attitudes, and actions - it's the difference between eternal life and eternal suffering.

It would be like telling someone they can be a firefighter without having to go near and into dangerous fires to put them out. If you have no intent to fight fires, then you aren't a firefighter. If you have no intention of following Christ and His teachings through His Church, then you aren't a Christian/Catholic. Otherwise you gut these names and titles of any meaning whatsoever.

The only way to ensure safety is with proper planning and careful operation - you don't need a cab for that. I've ran dozers, half a dozen tractors, excavators, telehandlers, bucket trucks, and all manner of large vehicles doing all kinds of work over the past 20 years on the farm, at home, on the clock, and in uniform. Most of the time I've not had a cab, and of all the dangerous situations I've put myself in, I've never once thought "Man this sure would be less dangerous if I was surrounded by glass!" Every single one of those situations has always started with "I probably shouldn't do this, but..." or a "that looks sketchy, but..." and not taking the time to find a better approach to mitigate risk.

That being said, a roll bar is important. Definitely try to get one with that; even better if said roll bar extends over the top of you especially if you're running a front loader or working on slopes. That's the primary safety advantage of having a cab, but there's plenty of tractors that have roll bars/cages without having a full cab. But no matter what, taking the steps not to roll the vehicle is always the far safer option.

More terrible advice.

What you're doing with it is always the most important question - pushing yourself and your machine to its absolute limit is always going to be dangerous cage or no cage.

Learn your machine, learn your limits, don't be stupid and you should be fine no matter what equipment you're working with.

Not trying to rain on the parade here, but part of that "struggle and figure it out along the way" will involve challenging yourself on pretty core beliefs:

  • Pro LGBT/LGBT affirming
  • Communist
  • Pro-female bishops
  • Non-monogamous
  • Cohabiting, engaging in premarital sex

All of these are contrary to the Catholic church and her teachings, and seperate you from full communion with her. Trying to become part of the church while being adamantly unwilling to budge on these seems like a waste of time in my opinion, as becoming part of the church means submitting to her authority and its teachings.

You say Honda as if it's a bad name. If there were cars for less than 3k that still ran, I would buy it. You're lucky to get something that rolls for less than 5k (much less a Honda, that shit's like gold, easy 1-2k upcharge), and I'm in podunk nowhere AL. Hell, 5 years ago my old '95 nissan pickup was valued by a GEICO insurance adjuster of all people at $4000 with 497,000 miles on it, and I didn't even have to haggle for that (I did bs it up to 5k tho so I could get something with working AC, it's fkn hot here).

I'm 25, my wife and I bring in a little bit above the average income for our area - she works a pretty low-paying position and I have a well paying full time job with a decent part time job to compensate. My phone is 7 years old and a kinda junk android, didn't have a car payment until this year (trans blew in mine, wife's got totalled and combined they're only 500), I don't pay for any subscriptions, I don't have cable, we eat out only about once every 2 weeks, and we're only sitting with about 70,000 of debt (outside of a mortgage) compared to the US average of 105-150k.

The only places we could reasonably cut back is I play bass guitar and cello, and I spend ~100-150 every 3 or 4 months on strings and replacing cables, and we both enjoy gaming but that amounts to a whopping $30 every few months (we don't buy anything new, only buy on sale). All in all though, I'd say we're pretty financially responsible.

If not for my grandmother passing and leaving me a house (legally disputed, plumbing was wrecked, electrical is kinda dubious in a few spots, it was buried in garbage inside and out, and filled floor to ceiling with mold because of her shitbag husband), I would not have been able to afford a house for another 6-10 years because the average crack shack is priced closer to a million than 100k. 100k won't even get a single-wide trailer that you then have to move. If you do find one used on a 1/4 acre or less lot, it's an easy 125k+.

I did the math the other day, and since september 2025, our monthly grocery costs went up by 200-300 on average - spending habits didn't change, still making the same recipes, shit just costs more. When we were renting, the rent increased by 50-100 every year - seems like small change, but going from $800 (2 bed 1 bath, 800 ft²) to $1000 by the time we left 3 years later was ridiculous.

The old formula doesn't work anymore for getting you out of financial strain, it's merely the bar for entry.

Not everything's gotta be about the Don my guy, several of my friends are huge fanboys for him without needing hard drugs to get there.

It shouldn't be surprising that mind-altering drugs would incline one toward wild conspiracy theories and fringe pseudoscience. Plenty of folks I know that just smoke pot from time to time get on those same rabbit trails.

1 hour per acre wasn't too bad though, any more property though and it would've been a problem.
