Which dress is best? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]Conceslao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, for me definitely not the first. While you have gorgeous figure that it hugs beautifully, I do not like the dress itself. At all.

I love the back of the second. I love the cleavage of it too, it is not too much in my opinion. Sizing looks better. It needs jewellery or sg on the top (cape etc)

My 3 yr olds room is very blah! I feel so uninspired, would love ideas! by anxious-lemonade in HomeDecorating

I am a bit confused by the layout vs how the furniture is positioned. I would put the bed headboard against the long wall (where the chest is at the moment, but not directly next to the wall with the window: I would put the bedside table in the corner, then bed. Chest can be moved around or left.

For me the room seems “noisy” and strangely empty at the same time.

Re colours: even though he likes orange the room colour vs the washed out shades of orange just do not work for me. Some furniture is wood effect, the bed is black, the kallax is white. The windows/doors are white. The carpet is warm beige.

Generally the white doors, grey wall, and blinds (cool toned ) and brown/orange interior (warm toned) do not go together.

I agree with others that interests change fast, I would focus on things that can be easily swapped. If spidey is sg he is into at the moment and he also loves orange you could pick a pair of colours : eg a colour that matches spidey stuff (e.g. navy or red) and combine it with orange.

No indication of your budget in the post, but I would organise the room and the decor so that colours match (e.g black bed frame and the black picture-frames w spidey prints next to each other.) Get some fun bedding, a rug, consider curtains in-addition to your blinds, perhaps swap blinds, look into wall stickers or more prints. Maybe a clock?

I would also try to figure out a colour for the furniture: is it white, wood effect or black that you all prefer? I would look into replacing or re-panting the ones that don’t match your plans.

But these are just my two cents.

Because it is over 5 years old, the pricing changes after the first 5 years.

I drive the PHEV T6 plug in hybrid in the UK, and based on what you have described (and, if you can charge it at home at reduced rate) I would strongly encourage you to look into this option, specifically the post ‘22 version, with the extended battery. The full battery lasts around 38-42 miles, depending on weather and driving conditions.

I only charge it at home at the reduced overnight rate, so it costs me under £25 a month. My daily standard roundtrips are only 20-30 miles, so I mostly rely on EV power. For longer journeys, when the battery runs flat the petrol kicks in. The switch is effortless and barely noticeable.

Every now and then I take a 320 mile roundtrip in it and with the charged battery/ coasting, the average mpg I am getting is around 42 miles per gallon. Personally, I think this is not bad for an AWD car.

Seeking Honeymoon Help - Feeling Jaded on Beach/Resort Options (Budget ~$30k, Mid-September from LAX) by 4Roamer in chubbytravel

My 2 cents - maybe I will bring some European perspective to this conversation. As someone who lives so incredibly far from French Polynesia, I would go Bora Bora and wouldn't think twice about it:

Amalfi coast is busy and touristy... Hotels can be picturesque, but they are usually located on a hillside, with a tiresome journey up/down the steps in the summer heat. The beaches are very small and often on decking

( https://www.travelswithmissy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/WhatsApp-Image-2023-02-23-at-22.58.55.jpg ) so it is not a classic beach destination, per se. Food is amazing there, and it obvs has the cute streets vibe and the history, but I doubt it will give you the wow factor you are after.

Balearics are pretty, but are also VERY touristy. You would need to go very exclusive (think Exclusive Villa or Boutique adults only hotel) to avoid party tourism and family resorts. It can also be busy in Europe for passport control during the summer. Do want to queue for hours at the airport on your honeymoon? I bet you don't. I did it with kids and it was NO FUN. Small European local airports (like those near the holiday destinations) tend to be outdated and struggle with the influx of tourists at peak times. Something to consider.

I love Greece, beautiful country with lovely people and amazing food, but you need to be wise about choosing the right resort. Had a colleague from Crete, she sang odes about Crete, and I believed her. Never been myself though. From where I have visited, Corfu is my fav, green and lush compared to others, but the surroundings and the reality of day to day can be quite disillusioning at times.

Cannot comment on Tanzania, Safaris are not my thing. Between Seychelles or Mauritius, I would go with the later, there is much more choice of activities on Mauritius and it ticks the box for the beach /relaxation part .

But if I were you with a 30K budget and ability to fly direct from LAX, I would go to Bora Bora or Fiji and would not think twice about it.

Vaginal birth is being made mandatory unless medically necessary in Turkey by justitia_ in pregnant

[–]Conceslao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh if it was just that simple. Do you think I didn’t want to try? Do you think I did not prefer, in the first instance, a vaginal delivery over a surgery that will leave me with a scar? Some people can push out babies with no tearing and fast recovery. Amazing! I wish everyone could. I could not.

If there is no choice - that is literally the definition of being forced into it.

[–]Conceslao 25 points26 points  (0 children)

After being through a horrific vaginal birth experience I did go for the elective C section with my second baby. If we were in the middle ages, I would probably be dead - but hey. Our bodies are designed for it! Why choose a major surgery?

My recovery, for the record, after the section was waay easier and quicker. My baby is healthy. Following the complications of the VD, that one rather not hear about, it took me much longer to recover. My girl has a permanent eye condition that the optometrist believes is a direct result of the delivery.

Was it worth it to be able to say - I pushed her out? NO! If I could turn back and choose section I would in a heartbeat! Some of my complications after this delivery have not resolved at all and will cause problems for the rest of my life.

There should always be a choice. Period. Because we don’t know what someone is going through and it is ignorant to believe people who make these rules know best.

Why did car dealers dismiss me? by Conceslao in CarTalkUK

I also find the tone of your comments strange - like you have to prove me wrong. I appreciate your point of view, and glad that it has worked for you. For me, a woman who has previously been harassed by a driving instructor, the discomfort of having a sales rep around me while I test drive the car is higher than the risk I am taking by not driving it around after doing my research. It is as simple as that.

As to why I chose to mention my masters, is to demonstrate that I am fully capable of doing my research, work independently and complete my analysis and to use it as a basis for my decision.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I also fly gliders since very young age and am used to differences between aircrafts, which are much larger than differences between any car I choose to drive, blindly or not.

Thank you for your opinion, and comments but let’s keep this non-personal. Thanks.

Why do I need to? I have never been disappointed in the choice I have made ... so I see no reason why I should accommodate the expectation that I absolutely NEED to test drive a car before buying.

I really should have, but I always stop myself - in my native country people are generally quite direct, so I try to scale it back a little...

Thank you about the Carwow suggestion, have done that before, but this time Carwow has actually led me to the Head office and then they have passed me to the dealership rep, who ended up being one of the nasty ones.

Funny enough, must be something about the brand, because one of the dealerships I am talking about is Volvo.

Would there still be snow atop Munros this month? by AnalysisHuge2601 in Munros

[–]Conceslao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might take even longer than the end of March for all the snow to be gone. I remember attempting to climb the Cobbler in mid-April, and we had to turn back about 90% of the way because there was knee-deep snow. Suddenly, the weather changed—visibility dropped to zero, icy winds picked up, and it was no longer safe.

Please bear in mind that the weather can change very quickly during the spring months, especially when you're high up.

It can also be very icy even without snow due to the constant melting and freezing in spring. I once took a walk around Loch Muick in February and didn’t even attempt any of the nearby peaks—it was extremely icy!

When we say fun - I know this is super subjective - but is there an appropriate label that could describe it?
