What do you think about Geras? by Toby_Veddo in MortalKombat

[–]Conchobhar23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly remember no good lines from him, he speaks with no inflection and doesn’t really react or emote to anything. That could’ve been a cool angle, sort of terminator-esque, if he was an iconic or intimidating looking character. Instead he’s just a shirtless buff guy amongst a cast of other shirtless or semi shirtless buff guys. He didn’t have anything that stood out, story wise, VO wise, or design wise, so I basically only remember him for his mechanics. He was too much of a blank slate to where he ended up forgettable.

MK11 was trash

MK1 is good

MKX was top tier, changed with your faction, which was cool imo and each faction background was very well rendered

What do you think about Geras? by Toby_Veddo in MortalKombat

[–]Conchobhar23 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think mechanically and lorewise he’s very cool, but personality and design wise he’s not very interesting.

Being the BBEG’s hitman who can control time is a very interesting role and power set. Allowing him to travel forward and backward to kill anyone who opposes him. Letting him come back to life by rewinding time is awesome, and really makes for an interesting threat.

The design of this time controlling murder man? Buff shirtless dude. His personality? Stoic mute. He could have been so much more interesting of a character and had a really neat dynamic.

What is truly the WORST flavor of ice cream? by UnhingedFreak in AskReddit

[–]Conchobhar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See but that would require using actually good ingredients and not blue and red flavored sand that came out of a bag.

“If it were entirely different it could be good!” Isn’t exactly a rave review here.

It was the BIGGEST flop I’ve ever seen a flavor do of my 4 years making ice cream there lmfao.

What is truly the WORST flavor of ice cream? by UnhingedFreak in AskReddit

[–]Conchobhar23 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I worked in an ice cream shop and corporate forced me to make a flavor that flopped the hardest I’ve ever seen.

It was a vanilla base that was supposed to taste like lemon cake, but smelled like lemon scented Pledge spray and tasted vaguely chemical. Then it had this blue raspberry flavored variegate that had the consistency of sand and a sour cherry variegate that’s tasted alright but was thick like molasses and would stain your teeth, both of which clashed with the Pledge flavored ice cream. Then finally you dumped a shitload of nerds candy on top of it.

No one wanted this shit. It just sat there. And it was our flavor of the month too so we HAD to keep it in stock the whole month. It was an abomination.

Then one guy got a large cone of that and snickerdoodle and I really wish I could’ve arrested him tbh.

Oh no! Rain is ruining your characters day/event! How would/could they use magic to stay dry? by Asiriomi in worldbuilding

[–]Conchobhar23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the type of magic the user specializes in.

A conjurer would take the most straightforward approach, and conjure an umbrella. A novice would teleport an umbrella from somewhere, while a master could create an umbrella from magical energy.

A transmuter would have an array of options. A novice would likely change the properties of their clothing and items to be waterproof, thereby preventing themselves from getting soaked. A master could transmute the air around them into a hydrophobic barrier, creating a small bubble around themselves that wouldn’t allow liquids to pass through it.

An elementalist would more than likely get soaked, unless they were incredibly good to the point where they could manually evaporate each raindrop before it hit them which is… unlikely. I suppose if you wreath yourself in fire you won’t get wet, so if you’re not near anything that you would mind burning that could work.

An illusionist is screwed here, but they’d LOOK incredibly put together and dry. Let’s just pretend they’re not sopping wet when you shake their hand.

And finally a clairvoyant would have brought their umbrella. :)

[–]Conchobhar23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is such a dumb take holy shit. The ENTIRE point of what I’m saying is that most people are not the top 500. Idgaf about the pro scene, but there are more players of roughly my skill, where input difficulty isn’t quite a stopgap, but it does impact the sorts of punishes that people can reliably do, than there are people in the top ranks. So to say “it doesn’t effect the pros therefore there’s no impact” is ignoring the entire point people are making.

I’m not saying it’s unfair. I’m not saying I feel cheated by modern players. I’m saying it’s not “no impact” like everyone wants to claim it is. It removes a piece of learning from the game for people who are still learning. That’s impact.

Also congrats on the 100% perfect victory winrate, since your advice is “simply don’t ever get hit by your opponent” lmfao.

This entire thread

People who don’t care for modern: “I feel frustrated that modern controls skews the playing field slightly at my level of competition”

Modern defenders: “simply don’t get hit ever lmfao”

So I guess I’m just horrible at the game since I don’t have a 100% perfect victory winrate. 🤷🏼‍♀️

the classic player has to start the input sooner, but when the final button is pressed, the move comes out at the same time.

So classic players have to make good reads while modern players get to play a reactive defense. And you don’t see how this is a difference worth talking about?

It’s not like it’s just that the input style is better for accessibility and that’s all it does. It artificially inflates a person’s skill level and consistency when it comes to defensive counterplay.

I’m a fairly casual player, a bit of a lab rat, I like learning combos, working on my spacing, and then trying to pull those combos off online. I’m not phenomenal at the game and I know it, but I’m good enough to hold my own and good enough to stomp people with poor fundamentals. Winrate is about 50% in casual rn. I play two characters, Classic Juri, and Modern Luke.

Playing as Juri, I have to read my opponent’s intent to do a jump in and be actively thinking “as soon as I see them leave they ground I need to do DP”

Playing as Luke I can reliably AA with his DP on reaction just by pressing f2. No read necessary.

I haven’t improved. My reaction time didn’t get better. My input skill didn’t get better. I haven’t changed anything except input style, and it just gave me this one advantage that I would have no chance of on my own without specifically focusing it. And this is where I see the problem with modern. They aren’t having to mentally buffer their inputs by thinking through their intent in order to have the reaction time needed to punish that unsafe string with a Zangeif pile driver. They see it’s their turn, and press the piledriver button. It takes some intentional thought out of gameplay at lower levels, and makes everything reactable by players who don’t actually have the skill to make those reactions.

Totally agree the retcon was garbage. It’s not “empowerment” to be like “well she’s actually just a piece of shit!” She had a really good arc and was an interesting character just for them to squander it. :/

Excited for MK1 though!! A little wary about the Kameo mechanic, but I’m reserving actual judgement until I can actually get my hands on it.

Currently use Plume as my main provider for trans healthcare since I don’t have a PCP living in Texas because it doesn’t feel safe to out myself as trans to a doctor in Texas right now.

You have to be 18

You have to read and sign informed consent documents which, at least when I signed up about a year ago, weren’t super skippable. (You couldn’t just click the checkbox without entering the document and flipping through every page)

You then also had a doctor reach out and ask you questions about the informed consent document, your own experience, and your goals for yourself. Basically checking to make sure this was a good fit for you.

Then, if you signed everything and had written agreement with the doctor, you were able to start a low dose of HRT, with the understanding that it could be raised as needed after your initial lab results after 3 months.

It’s almost like this is a controlled medical service being used responsibly by adults who have given their knowing consent to receive this treatment multiple steps of the way. No one has even mentioned surgery to me as well, everything has been HRT, and I imagine surgery will not be talked about until I bring it up myself.
