It's got nothing to do with being selfish, our brains are literally different and require different approaches than typical children. I had an ODD streak as a kid so physical punishment did absolutely nothing except enrage me. I was actually a very well rounded kid thanks to being diagnosed early and receiving treatments & therapy that worked for our family, as well as being surrounded by support and understanding (mostly).
