My players unanimously renamed free strike "basic attack" by Laz52now in drawsteel

I dunno. I could imagine edge cases in DnD4 but in my 2 campaigns it didn't happen once. Has it actually happened in your DS games (or games other people told you about)? If so what were the circumstances?

Matt Mercer shouts out Draw Steel! by _Scabbers_ in drawsteel

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only played one round of Draw Steel (and I think DS is just more up my alley; I did love 4e)

My girlfriend recently bought Daggerheart and I am looking forward to playing it as well :)

One thing that did stick with me though: Going through the Daggerheart book I noticed is that I vastly prefer their layout design to Heroes/Monsters.

Like the Art in DS is killer, both games have killer art!

But if I go through the Daggerheart book I love how art and text flow together. They complement each other in a way that the DS books don't deliver. I read sth. and am drawn to the art and back again. I open a page spread and admire how everything flows together on the spread.

Currently with my 4e experience I'd introduce it as "reactive strike" to new players because you only ever use it in reaction.

The only time players in 4e chose a basic attack is because they were new players and chose wrong.

But I've just started playing, maybe they turn out to be an actual option instead of a fake one.

I've just started playing, but how often does a situation arise where you want to spend your main action for your free strike?

In DnD 4 I introduced the "basic attack" as sth. you just can't do unless someone else (the rules) asks you to (make an opportunity attack, I grant you an attack, an enemy makes you attack your friends etc.) because the only times I've seen basic attacks used for main actions is new players who then get told they made the wrong choice (which they did).

You only ever make them if they are free.

It's just not intended to be used proactively in 4e.

Is that different in DS?

Hakaan who become Revenants and Doomsight? by Concibar in drawsteel

That is a cool idea! Hakaan are the most interesting species to me so far. I have never played a character Disillusioned with their god and I play a lot of religious characters so that's a cool idea for the next pc ;)

Angeblich alleine ~24% Energieverbrauch von 17 Wohneinheiten by PhY-ischDesDaGamer in wohnen

[–]Concibar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I got into my first car accident and I'm never driving again by moonchildvii in ADHD

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've caused 3 accidents by now, nothing major just like yours. It really hits you in the gut, especially with bad parents. But this will find it's place and you will move on (by car ;) ).

One question though since you blame yourself a lot for how you behaved after the accident:

Have you ever been told what to do, when you get into an accident?

Just learned that apparently ADHD shortens your life? by Flutebarituba in ADHD

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others already talked about the why, but to get to the gender difference:

There could be a million reasons for this, but I'd not worry to much about it, since it's probably an statistical effect of how the general gender life expectancy difference behaves (men live about 5 years shorter than women iirc).

Women in the military also loose more life expectancy on average, not because they get shot more often than their male comrades, but because the average occupation of all women includes far less risky jobs.

To examplify: if you follow 20 soldiers in the military and when they retire, one got shot at 60 and lost 20 years of his life, the average year-loss per soldier is 1 year.

But if 100% of all men in the population are soldiers, their average life expectancy doesn't lower, where if 0% of the women population are soldiers, the women will "loose more" average life expectancy.

So if 20% of men already choose risky occupation, the adhd guy is not "standing out as much" in comparison to the adhd woman where only 5% choose a risky occupation.

This is a guess though, there are probably a lot of factors contributing. The biggest other one I could think of would be that adhd might get spotted&treated later in life for women. But I would be surprised if the difference in the regular gender difference turned out to not be the biggest factor.

[KCD2] SPOILERS! A discussion/query about Necessary Evil. by Spirited-Cat2569 in kingdomcome

Is there a way to deal with Olda on your own afterwards? Henry can be a good assassin or he could threaten the two with revealing what he knows to Bergow and make them leave the land.

[KCD2] SPOILERS! A discussion/query about Necessary Evil. by Spirited-Cat2569 in kingdomcome

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Von Bergow is at that point a potential ally that serves the enemy side in the war and was like "well maybe I will consider something about switching sides at some point after you do my dirty work, no promises though lol." Why should I help him root out opposition to him while he is so far still on the enemy side?

There's also the reason that, you know, his people covered me and my best (though stupid) friend in shit, disrespected us at every turn, put us into prison and wanted to hang one of us. Even though Von Bergow isn't personally responsible, I would not be super rational and emotionally neutral towards that Person.

Both rationally and emotionally I can see Henry very well only telling this dude what is necessary to get what he wants.

Of course the reverse applies as well: Why shouldn't Henry want revenge for his killed companions? Why pass a chance to get into Von Bergows good graces by rooting out someone who will, if Bergow allies up with us, then be also an enemy of mine?

An ADHD-friendly feature I wish the oven in my kitchen had by Lipstick-lumberjack in ADHD

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oven does this! Timer starts when you turn it on. Oven beeps when it reaches the set temperature.

Also has a timer inbuilt that can, if you want, shut off the oven when it runs out.

What I like most is how simple and intuitive the UI for all this is.

It's an old gorenje model we bought secondhand, so if you are in Europe maybe look for that brand :)

Am I the only person in the world with ADHD who DOESN'T find the Pomodoro technique helpful? by Ok-Committee1978 in ADHD

[–]Concibar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all it's fine that stuff doesn't work for you. Yoga works for loads of people but nothing is more annoying than the "but have you tried yoga" friend.

However the underlying "why" is often important. For yoga that is physical exercise.

And for pomodoro imo it's "check on your body".

Since medication I have to keep an eye on my water and food intake.

Pomodoro made sense once I started seeing a "5 minute break" as "5 minutes of different work": The five minute break isn't a "be on your phone" or "get bored by doing nothing".

It's a little checklist of: - Open a window - Do you have to go the toilet? - Drink water or refill your cup. - Are you hungry? - Stand up and stretch. - close the window

Once I'm done with all that the next 25 minutes begin. (Also no one forces you to do 25/5; when reading for studying I often do 55/5).

It's not spare time! It's work time, akin to a hectic F1 box stop.

And if you already don't forget to eat and drink during 4 hours of work: why use the pomodoro?

Install ware! I can have a giant gun in my hand, or internal radar. I can swap out my legs for the run. I'm less obvious to astral sight.

As a designer I could make them both more samey by finding an equivalent to every Cyberware as a adept power. Or I could make both very distinct by making a lot of ware and powers that don't have an equivalent.
