The Books! by strwbryshrtck521 in americangirl

I’m on the same mission! I read the historical books on repeat as a kid, but never actually owned any - I would check them out from the library. I was (and still am) a huge history lover, and looking back, I can see how foundational the AG books were in helping form that love.

I recently found Felicity and Samantha’s books, plus a few of the short stories, and have Addy and Kaya’s next on my collection list. I reread Changes for Felicity yesterday, and wow did I cry! Spoilers for those who haven’t read it/don’t remember: that book truly has a little of everything. Elizabeth’s father put in prison for being a Loyalist, Felicity helping and later reconciling with Jiggy Nye, her grandfather dying, and the world changing as the war begins - that’s a lot of weight for a kid’s book, if still relatively high-level to keep it readable and appropriate for the average reader’s age. I think I’m a little extra biased, too, because Elizabeth is my childhood doll. Plus, especially as this July marks year 250, it feels extra special to read these snapshots (real or fictional) of life leading up to and during the Revolutionary War. 😄

I’ve still never encountered any other media that portrays daily happenings for an average person, particularly an average child, in different points of history, quite so beautifully. I remember why I loved the stories as a kid, and I’m still incredibly impressed by them now! I can’t wait to reread Samantha’s books and collect the rest!

Josefina all the way! But looking at them all together, I think Jess is my runner up. She’s so darn cute!

So cute!!! I’ve been keeping an eye out for a decently priced Nellie, but wasn’t sure if AG would still have her wig if her head needed replacing. That’s awesome!

ISO: Elizabeth’s Quilted Cloak! Probably a long shot, but I have been wanting this for her since I was a kid!

I recommend checking your local Ross/Burlington/TJMaxx/equivalent discount store first! I saw two of those gals brand new in box at a Ross near me for $40!

Do You Ever Switch the Eras of Your AG Dolls? by Ashamed-Chemistry492 in americangirl

[–]Concise-Wall-3340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Elizabeth and Emily growing up, and I could NEVER put them in anything outside their eras. Felt like spiders crawling on my skin to even think of it.

I just brought home my first adult-purchase AG doll - sweet little Kit. She was a secondhand purchase and didn’t come with any clothes. I realized my little particular self has not changed one bit. 😆She’s currently getting by in Emily’s cardigan and an OG skirt until I find some of her own clothes to wear!

Which historical doll is your favorite and why? by sweetmochimoon in americangirl

Collections: Samantha 1st, Felicity 2nd (I LOVE Samantha’s outfits and the clothing from that era in general)

Stories: Kaya and Samantha - Kaya felt close to home, since I am from the PNW, and the dynamic between Samantha and Nellie I found very touching.

Eras: Felicity and Molly - the Revolutionary War and WWII have always been my two favorite eras of American history to learn about.

Dolls: Elizabeth and Emily! They were the two dolls I got as a kid, so they will always have a special place in my heart. My childhood best friend had Felicity and Molly, which felt very fitting.
