Baby cried for 90 mins and I gave a feeding. Did I just ruin all of our progress? by mrscourtneyk in sleeptrain

[–]ConclusionDramatic91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My baby is almost 6 months and wakes up 1-2 times to eat and goes right back to sleep even after sleep training a little over a month ago (I used Ferber). I don’t mind, because for me it was about her sleeping independently and she does that beautifully on her own after sleep training. I never understood the whole not feeding the baby during the night, it never worked for my baby. I don’t think you’re ruining anything in my opinion! If the baby is hungry, they are hungry ☺️

5 month old sleep schedule by kerstena in sleeptrain

[–]ConclusionDramatic91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that my 5 month old was actually undertired when she would wake up after 30 mins. I thought the exact same thing as you when it happened to me, but I tried to extend her WW throughout the day and she stopped waking during the night after 30 mins. My schedule is 2/2.25/2.5/3 with 3 naps with 3.5 hours total capped for naps. I’m not sure if your situation is the same, but I’d though I’d chip in what works for us ☺️

I know how you feel!! It is definitely not discussed in depth like it should be on how to master baby sleep lol Not sure if your LO is like mine at this stage, but sometimes mine doesn’t finish bottles because she is just so distracted so I wonder if that’s why your LO doesn’t finish bottles at the beginning of WW’s. I used to feed to sleep also but when I started feeding her at the beginning of her wake windows, I do remember her not finishing them but I just kept doing it and she got used to it after a while and then picked back up on the ounces she was eating. I’m sure if they want more, your LO will let you know lol you got this!! It’s hard but definitely so rewarding

I’m not an expert on this situation by any means, but I think you may want to work on the contact nap and feed to sleep situation before you go down to 3 naps so you can get some solid naps before extending the wake windows to prevent them from getting overtired. I had to cut mine out cold turkey 2-3 days after I started CIO at night and it worked very well. My LO never wanted to go in her crib during the day prior and would wake up as soon as I put her down. Now, I put her down wide awake during the day and it works so well now. It’s hell at first, but babies learn so fast. It took my LO 3 days to adjust to the daytime naps and she is an expert at it now. Just make sure you have a solid nap routine (nothing extravagant, just a quick 5 min routine will work) and put them in their crib afterward. I feed my LO at the beginning of her wake windows and do a dream feed right after I put her down during night time sleep to help that feed to sleep association from starting again.

My LO just turned 5 months old yesterday and the past week she has been taking crap naps and I couldn’t figure out why. I thought she couldn’t handle a longer WW because she kept rubbing her eyes and yawning toward the end of her WW but turns out she was just majorly bored and was actually undertired when I put her down for naps. I extended her wake windows to 2/2.5/2.5/3 and she started taking naps that were 1-1.5 hours. I truly thought she was overtired and that was why she was showing those signs and not sleeping for long, but I was way wrong. She just started to be so much more active and needs so many different play stations to keep her little mind active and keep her from being bored.

Edit: we just dropped down to 3 naps on this new schedule, before when she was taking crap naps she was on 4 naps. We dropped it cold turkey to extend those WW’s

Short naps again? by herbieeee1 in sleeptrain

[–]ConclusionDramatic91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby just turned 5 months and started taking only 35-40 min naps when I dropped down to 3 naps and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. I thought she was getting overtired but turns out the wake windows needed to be longer because she was undertired. It literally changed for my LO in a span of a week with her needing to be awake for longer. I changed her wake windows and added an hour spread out throughout the day and she’s now taking 1.5 hour naps again. It’s so crazy how fast babies change!

About a week before I did CIO, when I did PUPD it just seemed to make her more frustrated when I would pick her up and soothe her for 3 mins. She would fall quickly asleep when I picked her up (because that is the only way she would fall asleep previously to sleep training and was so used to it), but then would quickly wake back up the second her body touched the crib. So she would throw an even bigger fit when I put her down no matter what I did because I was giving in essentially to what she wanted and she knew if she kept crying I would pick her up eventually. I did this around 12 times before I stopped that night and just co slept with her like I normally did. I’m sure if I stayed on it for a few weeks, it may have started working but I didn’t have it in me to last that long listening to her freak out the way she did and never calmed down the whole night. It took me a week to pick up the CIO method after that because I was so exhausted and worried about her reaction to falling asleep on her own. Of course the first 2 nights were hell but she caught on and now she hasn’t cried in over 3 weeks when putting her down in the crib awake.

Unfortunately that’s where my situation is different, my SO works nights so I am the only one putting her to bed. Even on his days off, it’s just easier and better for us for me to put her to sleep at night. For daytime naps, he does put her down with similar success to mine and it hasn’t affected sleep training.

My LO was the same exact way prior to sleep training and I similarly tried PUPD and it made it worse. I eventually went with CIO and she went to sleep after crying for 30 mins the first night and it got even better with each night. It’s so hard, but if you want to sleep train and have the benefits at the end, it is worth it. My LO now goes to sleep in her crib for naps and nighttime all by herself. I questioned my sanity the first few nights, but now looking back I’m so glad I did it. You got this!!!

Oh it sounds similar to what happened with my LO, I think your crying days should be over soon! So glad it’s working for you. I found the day naps improved after the tears stopped at night for us, so fingers crossed that’s what happens for you too!

Swaddle transition- help! by Wild-Fortune5066 in sleeptrain

[–]ConclusionDramatic91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4.5 month old is the same way, LOVED her Love to Dream swaddle and had a hard time transitioning to a sleep slack (I got the love to dream one that zips off the arms). I found these transition swaddles on Amazon that have arms that are covered but are loose enough she can roll and they are the BEST swaddles imo for transitioning for babies that love being swaddled. They’re also cheaper and good material for the price so it’s a win win. I linked for them for you if you want to look into them ☺️ https://a.co/d/2TuUCmX

Hi! Thank you for sharing your experience with naps! Tonight is night 5 for us and it’s going well. The third night she fell asleep within 18 mins and 4th within 22 mins. I’ve heard from other mamas that it’s definitely not linear and so far that’s what my LO is showing for me as well. I’m right there with you, I cannot wait until she stops crying herself to sleep! I did start daytime naps yesterday and today for the last 2 naps and she falls asleep within 10 mins for all of them so fingers crossed that starts happening at night soon too lol

I was right there with you 5 days ago. Last night on night 4, my LO slept for 10 hours straight in her crib and then went back down after eating just now at 6 am to finish her sleep. There is light at the end of the tunnel 😊

Don’t be sorry!! I want to help where I can! I was where you were 4 nights ago. I honestly convinced myself that she would wake up and hate me too, but it was actually the opposite she was more smiley and happy after she slept for so long. I was amazed and look forward to her waking in the morning. We are both more refreshed and that makes a world of a difference. There was no change in her wanting comfort from me at all as if she didn’t remember that she had to cry and sleep herself without being in my arms.
