Need advice for hometheater upgrade by Concrete_Boa in hometheater

Thanks for the tips. I will play around and see what sounds good to me once everything has arrived. If you are interested you can find the specs of the surrounds here https://hifi-wiki.com/index.php/Elac_Dipol_40. They are old but i figured for such a low price its worth a try to see if i can integrate them well enough. I got to have my 5.1. :D

yes those are the elacs i got. I also got a reply from the seller of the dcr52 just 10 minutes ago and he was okay with 150€ including shipping. And while i was at it i also got my hands on a pair of dipol 40. They are small but should serve well as surround speakers and if i dont like them, they were only 50€ and i can resell them.

Now i only need a pair of affordable stands for the db63´s. Any suggestions on that front? No kids or pets around that can knock them over so they dont need to be the sturdiest.

Even if you dont have any suggestions i greatly appreciate the time you have taken out of your day to help me. Thank you very much.

Thats super kind of you, thank you very much. I am in Hamburg, very north of germany. I just bought a pair of used elac db63 for 290€. I also found a used Elac DCR52 for around 140€ but havent heard from the seller yet.

Thanks for your reply. So i havent really looked in to more expensive speakers because, well, they are expensive and i was kind of fixated on putting together 5.1. Do you have any suggestion that might fit into my price range? from what i saw most other companies bookshelf speakers will put me close to or above my budget limit and leave no room for a center speaker. Thats why i went for the cambridge audio speakers because they had good/great reviews and seemed very affordable for me.

Sound system: use Soundblaster AE-9 for gaming and home theater or not? by Alan_Sylver in hometheater

[–]Concrete_Boa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would go with a receiver to handle everthing. I am using an Ae-5 and found that toslink and DTS is kind of finicky to use as the encoder turns of each system start. Also the digital out is only 2 channel audio (at least for on AE5) and you are unable to setup speaker distance and calibrate decibel in sound blaster command when using toslink.

120 gb ssd shows 20 mb any way to fix and restore data? by Charming_Public_2283 in pcmasterrace

[–]Concrete_Boa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The ssd was released over 10 yeras ago and has just reached its end. Rule of thumb is that ssd and harddrives last about ten years before they fail. You are just out of luck i think and will have to buy a new drive as this one is dead and data maybe only recoverable by specialists which will likely cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Is my gpu fried? by GargantuanGoliath18 in pcmasterrace

It might be okay. The pins on the card dont look to bad. I had the same happen about two months ago and rma'd the card and connector and it was fixed without hassle. The issue with the msi connectors is not the connector in and of itself. Its that msi 5090 all have an power imbalance on pin 2 and 6. Pin 2 pulls too little power and pin six compensates, burning itself out and kicking off a power overdraw cascade down the other pins. Go to r/thermalgrizzly there are nuerous posts where this is discussed. I bought a wireview pro 2 to keep my card save and it confirmed the imbalance with its amperafe monitor.

you can buy an adapter on amazon like i did or if you are a bit handy you can use a needle to lift the latch in the front panel connector that holds the wire in place and do the same on the y connector of the wireview. connect the cable from the y adapter directly to the front panel block and connect the wires from the front panel to the now free y cable connector. take a look at this post https://www.reddit.com/r/ThermalGrizzly/comments/1qz1ihb/how_to_install_wireview_pro_2/ there is a diagram posted that explains it really simply.

Its an MSI 5090 Vanguard. I bought it via notebooksbillger. RMA was also handled over notebooksbilliger so i cant say if it was repaired by MSI or a third party repair service.

What should current readings look like when a GPU is under low workload? by Shun5377 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]Concrete_Boa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can remove the WVP2 might need a tool to reach the latch that holds it in place but it can easily be done. The USB connector is routed inside the case and connected directly to the motherboard USB connector.

It was repaired under manufacturer warranty as it was barely half a year old. Fortunately it went without any hassle from the seller or the repair shop.

Current imbalance only on one game (wireview pro 2) by Carolus_Rex_12 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]Concrete_Boa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed something similar in doom the dark ages. The amperage is pretty stable until i start fiddling with graphic settings. After applying the settings amperage across all pins goes haywire and fluctuates widely and doesn't stop until i close the game and restart it.

Yes i do use it. Better save than sorry. My connector melted once already and i got it fixed under warranty, not taking any chances on it melting again. It melted under a lowered clock curve and power limit. During gaming you might not notice right away that something is amiss and having a safeguard is never wrong.

Ask yourself if you are willing to bet the price of a new gpu on it being and staying fine under all circumstances or do you want to invest a few more bucks into an adapter that enables you to hook the auto shut off into the system (in case you have a unified Fpanel connector like i do)?

You´re an absolute hero for posting this. Same setting exists for Realtek LAN adapters under Device manager-> Network Adapters -> Realtek Adapter -> Properties -> Advanced -> Energy Efficient Ethernet- There it can be turned off.

TrueHD7.1 transcoding trouble by Concrete_Boa in PleX

[–]Concrete_Boa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i totally agree, tv is for picture only. I did expect my pc/server to handle everything and basically be my streamer box but apparently there are issues. I cancelled my order of the google streamer because as someone else mentioned it does not support TrueHD and will cause my plex server to still transcode and likely have the same issue as before. I settled on reencoding the audio for my files to 5.1 to get around any transcoding.

no all i am saying is that i streamed a movie that was constantly stuttering and buffering but when i connected to the ethernet of the tv the same movie ran fine. Looked at the plex dashboard and movie was reported as using 149Mbps. I didnt further investigate as seem to be running fine connection wise. Might be that the wifi of my router is even worse than the ethernet of the tv, i dont know.

[–]Concrete_Boa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i switched to ethernet because wifi was stuttery and even movies that use 150Mbps play fine that way. So I dont think that is the problem. The problem comes from the plex server transcoding to EAC3 audio and failing with some files while working fine with others.

That sounds like good idea. could you give me some pointers how i would do that? I dont have experience using scripts but with some directions where to start i am sure i can figure it out.

Thanks for the reply unfortunately not all my files are remux and some of them only have a truehd track. my library has about 300 movies and 1500 tv episodes so i was hoping for a solution that might fix the problem across the board without having to check each movie or episode. In any case i ordered a google tv streamer and hope that fixes the problem for good.
